Yo White Viking brothers!!! You want to know who Odin is? I have a feeling somewhere in between 7th-9th century AD. The Norse religion & Christianity got mixed up with who He was possibly? Check this out! Esus is another name for Odin. The word Esus. Add a "J" that was later introduced into the Anglo Saxon English alphabet in the 17th century. What do you have when you add- "J" with Esus? ;) romecorruptedchristianity.wordpress.com/2013/07/09/esus-and-jesus-coincidence-the-trinity-of-esus/

I enjoyed this. One thing to understand about the Old Norse religion: The Old Norse religion is not one set religion with a basic set of morals, laws, or beliefs for that matter. We know a lot about Old Norse and yet we know very little as generally each Jarldom, Kingdom, etc had their own iteration of the religion with perhaps a slightly different story. This is because the Old Norse religion isnt based off of a book like Christianity. It is only stories and "fish tales" happen. The Sami people might have believed something differently from their neighbors whilst still believing in the same God's. They all stem from the Proto-Germanic "Old Norse" religion however.

İts mainly because norsemen didnt have the knowledge, time and effort to write things down. İt is better to tell your kids the tales of these gods, rather than put a book under his nose and tell him to read. Stories can change, yes. But did the bible not change too?
@Max-xf1mw4 жыл бұрын
@RealBallistic SMN Maybe if there was any reasonable evidence for the existence of those Gods then people might not consider it a myth. Yet people know these stories have changed throughout history. You have got a good case though, it's hypocritical! Many religions don't have any reasonable evidence. If they don't they should be considered a myth because truth is determined by evidence. Even if there is no such thing as absolute certainty, you only have what is most probable given the current evidence.

Those are practically non-existent on KZbin but the interest is certainly there considering the most recent Conan games and movie and considering that there are ties between the Conan series and the Lovecraft series since the two authors behind those series were friends and were inspired by each other in writing their stories.

Well, "evil" is just a matter of perspective. But in Norse mythology there is a lot of beasts. The Jotun are usually considered evil, but they are not really considered gods as they have nowhere near the same abilities of the Gods. There is a Jotun called Surtr, who reigns over Muspelheim and the fire Jotuns. There are others aswell, but he was the first one who came to mind.

The way things are arranged in the physicality is not random, they have patterns. Lots and lots of patterns. Which means, for something to effect something else and become in a certain sort of form or way or function, it has to be arranged accordingly in relevance to the rest. I do think there is permanence and absolute even on the physical realm as far as occurrence is concerned, but there too is in absolute and impermanence that dwells within and through them

Is it? I know that it is in swedish onsdag = Odins day.
@ravendan9686 жыл бұрын
Martin Bengtsson that's the way I understand it. In another language or culture he's called Wotan or Woden and his day of worship was called "wodens day" which became "Wednesday" just like how "Thors day" became "Thursday"

Did you know that the town of Woodbridge in England is named after Odin and the find of an Odin's mask at Sutton Hoo? I bet you do, but now I can also join in yay.
Could you do an episode on the realms like Muspelheim and Jotunheim?

I knew the GoW version of Odin was off. Yeah Odin wasn't the nicest guy but they made him a flat out villain. If anything Odin was similar in personality to Ragnar from Vikings, always hungry for Knowledge to predict the future and a merciless warrior in war. Interestingly the game gave all of Odin's positive qualities to Tyr

To be honest, Odin sounds like a pretty chill person. Most gods in mythologies (especially the greek ones) tend to be flawed but mostly brutal and cruel towards mortals and even between each other. Here not only Odin walks among mortals, but he even opens his door to one ice giant (loky) and asks him to be part of his family despite his reputation. Odin could be one of the most "good" gods around mythologies, hell he even was willing to sacrifice his eye for wisdom and knowledge. I'm sure there must be a few stories that say otherwise, but by comparison.... yeah odin is a pretty chill god.

Something very interesting also about "Asgård" where the God's lived and "Ashem" where Asgård was is that in an old story called "Yngligasagan" by Snorre Sturlasson it seems they believe Ashem was in Asia, east of the Black Sea I believe from what I remember of the text. He also mentioned Asia Minor and that would indicate Turkey. So, maybe vikings, at least in Sweden, came, at least partially, from Asia. Obviously Germanic tribes were likely the biggest source.

Great job on your Odin synopsis, I have studied Norse mythology quite deeply. I believe you're a little off on Loki, however. A lesson that always followed Loki's stories are that no matter how badly you mess things up, it's in your power to fix things, as Loki always did, with the notable exception of his role in Baldr's death, after which he was chained basically forever with snake venom dripping in his eyes, with a loving wife trying to save him from it. Very good to teach what happens when your trickery becomes malicious and causes irreparable harm.
@@mkelkar1 Is this a list of the similar God/Goddesses across the different world religions? Excellent compilation. Do you think all of these religions have a common root, or just similar world experiences? Comparing Germanic religion with Abrahamic, it seems that versions of hell differ depending on the climate where they originated. Hell is a fire burning eternally for many religions from warmer climates, and frozen, icy places in colder regions.

@@IsaacGerken Only the the so called "Indo European" mythologies that are rooted in the Rig Veda. Don't know how they compare with Egypt, Mesopotamia or Abrahamic traditions.

At one point of time, you'll understand that. I forgot what Goddess at one point of time actually got turned into a cop and that's what they were actually referring to. If you go look up Greek mythology, one of the goddesses got transformed into a cow. Feather kind of messing up at this point. But yeah, you'll understand.
