Exploring Pennsylvania's Best Ghost Town!(not the one you think)

In this episode we do some exploring of the best abandoned ghost town in PA. Yellow Dog Village, located in Armstrong County, PA near the town of Kittanning, was originally built in 1910 by the Pittsburgh Limestone Company for its company workers and to prevent the unions from moving in. Yellow Dog is a derogatory term for anti-union. The village was inhabited until the water was found to be contaminated, and the county condemned the village and forced the residents to move out. The village has changed ownership a number of times and is now open for tours during certain weekends throughout the year.

This was something I've been wanting to do for awhile tbh, but never had an opportunity. I couldn't believe some of the things that were left but I guess if you have limited time or you were moving to a smaller space, you'd have to make some decisions on what to keep and what to leave. I had so much fun doing this and I'm glad my schedule worked out that I was able to fit this into my itinerary.

I try to keep everything fresh and diverse. As much as I enjoy hiking, I also love exploring historic stuff and some off the grid things. There should be something for everyone on my channel that they can enjoy. All 6 of my Chicago videos coming out are totally different from each other. I think it keeps everything interesting. The chickens were a nice surprise and yeah they were almost like a tour guide through that house. The residents had to leave because the drinking water was contaminated and Armstrong County condemned the town and forced the residents to leave. I was amazed at what stuff people left there. I guess some just left in a hurry others took the time to pack everything up. Really cool experience and fascinating village to explore. Thanks for watching and subscribing! This village has some very interesting history to it . If you visit there Facebook page, they will occasionally have a former resident write a little article on what it was like living there and there thoughts now years later. I imagine for some this was the only home they knew so it was very emotional for them leaving. Thanks for watching!

I've never heard of this place or the term "yellow dog". Looks like it was a beautiful place to live. Some of those items look like they were left behind more recently than 2010-2014. Google says it was heavily vandalized. Very interesting place. Bet it's spooky at night!

I had never heard of it either until recently when I saw a Facebook post about it. When most people think of PA ghost towns they think of Centralia, the town that is still burning underground. I wondered that too about the items. Some of them are in pretty good shape yet. There's not as much vandalism here as there usually is at these abandoned places, no graffiti just some broken windows. They recently started doing nighttime tours of this which would a whole other experience I'm sure. Maybe I'll go back and do the nighttime exploring at a later date. This was one of the coolest things I've ever done. They really let you have a lot of freedom to wander in and out of the buildings and to explore as much as you want. I am looking to buy but since this was originally company owned its stipulated you can't sell the houses individually so you'd have to buy the whole village and some of these houses are on the verge of collapse. Yes it is sad to think that these homes were well cared for and loved and now they sit abandoned and some being reclaimed by nature. Hopefully the new owners can restore some of them so they may be occupied again. Thanks for watching!

Yeah they been trying to fix them up but since its privately owned the owner doesn't have the money to do that. That's why they allow these tours. Its kind of a fundraiser to help fix the houses. Thanks for watching!
