Sun Moon Lake has the best looking Starbucks I have ever seen. It overlooks the lake. The area has the great great hiking, walking, jogging and bike trails. If I had to do it over again, I would get lodging at the few hotels next to Starbucks. The opposite side of the lake (opposite the main pier) is less polished. Walking around a the lake you will completely decompress as one with nature. The sights, smells and sounds are very pleasing. Enjoy TAIWAN!!!!

millet is grainy. Once it is grounded into millet flour, mix it with water (and sugar for sweet taste) to form a batter. Then steam the batter to get Millet Mochi. Ordinary mochi were made from rice.

We did the boat tour because we only have the whole day, but yes the Sun Moon Lake needs to be explored more than a day! Nice video!

Sun Moon Lake is picturesque. In addition to tourism, there is another function for Sun Moon Lake- reservoir. In Summer, Sun Moon Lake Swimming Carnival has been held for 40 years. There are quite a few foreign swimmers to attend this swimming festival.

I've seen pictures of that festival! It would be fun to join, but I think I'd be afraid to swim with so many people. 😂😂

That rice purse thing you had, by looking at the sign (背包雞握飯), it literally translates to "Backpack Chicken Nigiri Rice". Like you said, the fried outside, is probably fried chicken skin and the inside is likely some chicken sticky rice. Definitely not a typical oft seen night market dish, something more on the creative side which is how a lot of popular night market food got started and came to be....
@TalesFromOurPocket Жыл бұрын
Thank you for translating that for us!! It definitely looks like a backpack. That's a great name. 😊

you guys really lucked out. The millet mochi (小米麻糬) is one of the specialties found mostly in Taiwanese mountain area. Last I had it was years ago on Alishan (阿里山). Taiwan actually has a mochi museum where they give out free mochi samples until you are full.

Until you're full?! That's a lot of millet mochi. 😂 It was so good and unique!
Thank you for visiting my hometown ~ Nantou County. 🙏 Nantou County is located in the middle of Taiwan, there are many high mountains in the whole county. It is the only county not facing the ocean, It is called "Switzerland of Taiwan". 👍 Xitou, Sun Moon Lake, and Cingjing Farm are all beautiful and distinctive places.✌

Bill absolutely has to order his own millet mochi. There's no sharing authentic millet mochi. The indigenous Ita Thao people are the original inhabitants of the lake. They lived on an island in the middle of the lake called Lalu island, and around the lake. They are famous for their musical performances using wooden pestles (taturtur) and mortars (runu).

0:46 this meow~ like call is from Black bulbul if you were wondering lol 1:04 yeah.... in the old days, ppl were trying to use these ways to get fish to eat or sell. And there is actually a plant for poisoning the fish, it is called 魚藤(Millettia pachycarpa), the direct translation of this name would be "fish vine" lol It is a natural poison ;3 And as I know, there are ppl using electricity to remove invasive species of fish in the US. 15:10 Not sure if you are aware of a very old game called Ultima Online(UO), the tradition of the Tawain server is there would be a night market on Tuesday and Friday lol And players from other servers (Japan, USA...etc) would visit Taiwan server just to take a look despite they can't take anything back to their own servers ;p 16:00 omg ... it looks delicious! I think TKK Fried Chicken also has a similar product, they call it 呱呱包(Kwa Kwa Bao) lol ah~ what a nice trip

I was just wondering about the dedicated bicycle lane around Sun Moon Lake. Why do you have to compete with cars for the lane?
@TalesFromOurPocket Жыл бұрын
There were parts of the lake that didn't have the dedicated bike path, or sections that were closed during our visit. 😊

@TalesFromOurPocket Жыл бұрын
We were there slightly off season and it closed on the early side. I want to say between 7 and 8. It def closed earlier than the other markets we went to!

In the Pacific War between the United States and Japan in the later period of World War II, more than 50,000 American soldiers died in the Pacific War. Taiwan is the headquarters of the Japanese Kamikaze in Hsinchu. The Chinese Kuomintang does not allow Taiwanese to commemorate these dead. Let the Taiwanese forget these things. After the war, the United States did not allow the Taiwanese to establish an independent country, and used the Chinese in exile to rule the Taiwanese. The United States left a tail, which is very dangerous. Today, the Taiwan issue makes the US military anxious, and may even cause a third time. World war, the island of Taiwan has too much magic power, the soul of this island seems to be accusing the world
