Oh wow! My husband and I stayed in this hotel when it was a Howard Johnsons for three nights in September 2001. Had a beer or two at that very pool bar and enjoyed a wonderful conversation with a guy from Scotland. The last day we checked out and went to Magic Kingdom. It was 9/11/01 and the park was evacuated. We drove the backroads back to Tallahassee as we didn't know what was coming next. Very scary memories. Had no idea sitting at the pool bar how the next day the world would change.

It's amazing how ignorant we all were. It was as if people thought their town would be next - because Kissimmee, Florida is a major international financial center and makes sense. And the stuff we didn't know - like how the attacks were completely preventable by the CIA and FBI actually sharing information instead of being in a deadly pissing match.

I worked in a Howard Johnson's Restraunt here in Fresno back in the early 1970's. Everyone but the main manager liked me. He was looking for a man to replace me behind my back. That's against the law these days, but women didn't have the same protections back then. That Howard Johnson Restraunt and motel are long gone now.

As a long time employee of both Angel Stadium and the Convention Center, your visits to those locales are always a blast from the past for me. And when you've explored the same streets of old town Orange that I explored countless times in my youth, I get those goosebumps of nostalgia. I haven't been to an Angel game in 11 years. I haven't been in the Convention Center since my last day of work in 2014. And now that I'm approaching 9 months since I left California, who knows if I'll ever get a chance to explore them again.

We stayed there when it was a Howard Johnson’s and I remember when we moved back to Orlando in 2007 we stayed in the hotel next door (Rodeway) as well every weekend while looking for a place to live. The pool at the Rodeway would have “AFRs” from time to time similar to what you brought up and the 2 hotels would partner so there was always a pool to use. I remember it being very cold water. I think water mania was already closed at that time but the abandoned property was still there. Even years after the land was cleared the Lynx bus would announce Water Mania right at the corner of US-192 and Celebration Avenue.

It should soon... The west end of the 192 has been completely renovated or is just brand new since that was the last area to get built out.. Slowly they're renovating in an easterly direction... It's sad that a lot of these former motels that are still 'operative' have become homes to families, the school buses pick the kids up there in the mornings. I moved from the UK to Kissimmee Florida in 93' I remember a lot of the before, there's constantly so much change but for the locals...
