We took a short trip from Salem, MA to Newburyport, MA. What started as a sunny day quickly turned to torrential rain. It was our first time anchoring in pouring rain and 30 knot winds, but we crushed it. We anchored out near the inlet/ mouth of the river at a gorgeous spot, we enjoying some gorgeous sunsets, but after a few days the swarms of green heads (horse flies) sent us running for the town dock. We explored our favorite town yet and enjoyed walking around the gorgeous parks and red brick roads. There is always work to do and this week we had a big task of de-molding the boat...and once you clean the inside its time to give the outside and hardtop a good scrub too!! Newburyport was filled with tons of fun but also some issues as well, because well, thats life!

A clean boat is a happy boat! We loved Newburyport. Unfortunately a storm broke out as we were entering the mouth of the Merrimack. Heavy currents.

Newburyport was a blast. Such a beautiful little town! And yikes that river is strong! We had a docking incident because of it. I can’t imagine it with the added current of a storm!!

@@adventures Tide was heading out along with pounding rain dumping into every storm drain around lol. It’s hard on a sailboat, we only were making 2kts under power. Finding the mooring was a challenge using binoculars. After an hour or so the current wasn’t bad to take the dingy in for dinner.

Not sure if you made a stop in Portsmouth, just north of Newburyport, but it's a great town and seaport area. Very historic and a killer downtown pub and restaurant scene. Well worth the stop over. Love the boat and looks like you're living the dream. Snows falling today and I'm counting the days until the shrink wrap comes off. Cheers!

New to your channel. First off I love the gentle calm energy the young lady gives off along with an always on smile. Love it. Your dad is doing what I am planning on the exact same boat. Yet to buy one, but narrowed it down to that a 55 to 60' Norhavn. Also doing it on my own, I love what you guys are doing. Say hi to your dad. Safe travels.

Possibly a tip, next time slide a microfibre cloth dipped in solution backwards and forwards through the slots in vent covers, might save on time and Q-tips. Loving binge watching your shows at 02.40hrs. Enjoy and stay safe.

Your right Newburyport is a cute and fascinating town. I live about 8 miles away and go boating around the mouth of the Merrimack and beyond most weekends in the summer. From your thumbnail I expected you to be on Martha's Vineyard. Excellent vid.

When you were in the mouth of the Merrimack River, which is Newburyport Harbor, what you thought was a rip-tide is salt water and fresh water meeting. It is often mistaken as rip-tide. It is not.

@@adventures I did a historical tour of plum island given by a gentleman named Bill Sargent that he explained the phenomenon. Plum Island would have been on your portside entering the harbor. It’s a barrier island protecting the wildlife refuge and the harbor. There’s such great history in that area. Many clipper ships were built along the river and Newburyport is the birthplace of the Coast Guard. One of my favorite places in New England. Fair winds and following seas.

Lol they were very happy to be inside nice and warm 🤣 I was out there having a blast...get it 😉 And yes we were just keeping the boat too warm/humid. We got everything cleaned up and now make sure to keep the boat cooler so that mold can’t grow. South Florida is insanely humid so it happens quickly down there

Are all of the ac vents accessible to clean by hand, or did you have to use special tools? Also where were some of the hardest to reach places with mold?
@adventures
@adventures 3 жыл бұрын
All the vents that were affected were accessible to clean by hand and some of the most laborious areas were the vent covers because we had to get into every slat which took a lot of time!

Cost of fuel for a 100 mile or cost per hour of operation? I'm looking to buy a boat and I don't want to under budget. But I really enjoyed your video. Thanks Hp
@adventures
@adventures 3 жыл бұрын
We burn about 6 gallons an hour while cruising at our normal 7.5 knots. While we are cruising the inverters are also powering our water maker, oven, AC, or whatever else we need on. Nordhavns are super fuel efficient for a MV!

How did the mold get there!! That’s some bad stuff
@adventures
@adventures 2 жыл бұрын
From being in hot climates and not running the AC, the humidity got too high. The struggle is that we liked to not have the generator running all the time and to have the AC on we had to run the generator

What do you think caused the mold on a boat that new?
@adventures
@adventures 3 жыл бұрын
The boat was in southern Florida for a year before we began our trip. We recently had a mold specialist aboard and she informed us that since south Florida is soooo humid that the AC basically needs to be run all of the time which we didn’t do. We think that the overall humidity was just too high so it gave it a great place to grow. She told us to keep the relative humidity below 65% going forward and we should be in the clear

Is there room for a conventional (non folding) bike in the lazaret?
@adventures
@adventures 3 жыл бұрын
I would say yes, we have fit 2 folding bikes down there which basically equal the size of one bike. It would just depend how you organize the rest of your stuff and how much you put down there. We have our emergency life raft down there along with the 2 folding bikes, so are long as you prioritize the space for the bike you will definitely have space for it, at least in this model. The N60s have quite large lazarets

FYI: 40 years ago I thought I’d drive my motorcycle head on into the grill of a semi, but before I did I said to God, “if you are real; I can’t stop the sin in my life”. Next thing I knew a presence flowed over and through me. Several days later I discovered that all my allergies were GONE (wheat, dust orange blossom, smoke and mold to name a few). If I even ate a crumb of wheat, I would get hives the size of baseball’s all over my body. Now, I have NO allergies; NO MORE shots, and can eat all the donuts I want, PTL.
