You should get vital instead. Made by Matt Tytel, and is probably the best Synth out (which is also free if tou choose to download the free version) with no restrictions whatsoever.

It's fantastic to see them packing in features you'd usually find/use in a DAW... into a standalone synth edit: porta is short for portamento, also known as glide (comes from the Italian phrase "portamento della voce" or "carriage of the voice") wasapi is Windows Audio Session API (application programming interface)

@@thijsboom well yes, if you put it in Ableton's DAW you can get handy things like automation and Max compatibility which are excellent, but this has a whole load of things not usually built-in to standalone VSTs, like the LFOs and gobs of modules. It's a just great thing to see, for people who don't already have DAWs :)

When I subscribed to your channel, I did it for the Blender tutorials, but now this??? I got a keyboard this year and I got Ableton with it, and I had already downloaded Helm to be used as plugin, but I never really understood what you could make yourself with it, I was just using the factory presets (which are cool as well), and now you post this great tutorial, I'd love to see more!

I definitely recommend Helm! One weird feature I've been experimenting with is to make some of the LFOs control each other's frequency (amplitude might work too) in a feedback loop. You can get a lot of interesting pseudorandom effects that way.

Check out LMMS. It's like this. Free... but with a bunch more features, can export music, can layer tracks, etc. Like FL Studio but free
