The Lost Coast Highway is among my top 3 motorcycle roads in the west coast area. I rode it some 18 years ago and your videos brought the memories come flooding back. It's every bit as good as your excitement conveys.

The Lost Coast Century is a 100-mile bike ride in California. It's also called the Tour of the Unknown Coast. The route includes beautiful scenery, but also has sections of bad pavement, steep climbs, and twisty descents. The Lost Coast is a mostly natural and undeveloped area of the California North Coast in Humboldt and Mendocino Counties. It was named the "Lost Coast" after the area experienced depopulation in the 1930s. When the Pacific Coast Highway was being built, engineers chose to go around this 100-mile section of coast.

Sterling, I'm convinced that northern California offers some of the best motorcycle roads in the world, certainly in the US. When I lived in The Bay Area I frequently took day rides along the costal range avoiding US101 and I-5 like the plague. CA36 between Red Bluff and US101 ranks as my all time favorite road on a bike.

Hello Sterling, I'm visiting my son in Everett, Washington after having taken a five day motorcycle journey on the slab from the Atlanta area. I'll be here a week, and was discussing with him a scenic route to the central Illinois home, where I'm from. I'm seriously looking at Highway 2. That'll take me through Stevens Pass, Kalispell, and many other high country out of the way places that likely don't see a lot of strangers pass through. It'll undoubtably take some time and planning to assure I don't leave myself short on gas and lodging when darkness comes, but then that's what adventure is.

That is some prime rockfish spots you’re passing. I would encourage you to invest in a fishing pole for lingcod, rockfish and Dungenous crab. You can fish right in the rocks and cook your catch at camp. 👍

I have a love/hate relationship with the Mattole Rd. So beautiful and off the beaten path yet so rough/beaten up I'd rather ride on gravel, but It's worth ridding every 5-10 years:) I'll be heading down that way next week from Oregon to the Redwoods but will be avoiding the Lost Coast this year.

I did the same thing my first time on Mattole! Turned around and did that "reveal" again =D 2021, on my way back from MOA Rally in Montana. I had started the day in Medford, got to Ferndale early afternoon. Low overcast, a little damp. As I climbed up and out of town, it got really dark and foggy in spots, but the cloud layer turned out to be thin and I soon found myself with clear blue skies and the hill tops above the clouds. The cloud layer ended completely by the time I came around that bend. Had to pull over (not easy...it's steep!) to absorb it. Breathtaking view. That short run along Black Sand Beach...damn... I stayed on Mattole Road past Honeydew and camped at Albee. Went through there again in 2022 with a group, and decided I needed to spend a week in the area. Didnt happen in 23, but planning an extended return in June this year. Cant wait.

Crazy, I was just camping south of Petrolia last week, right on the Matole river. Adventure bike heaven. Little old lady who runs the one market in that town sells great home made hot dog links. Did you see the other room in the Honeydew store that has all the mounted game? An Arizona ride is in the works for me. Love this channel!

Great video. Couple comments on the video. Ferndale - 'No Brand Burger' joint. Small, dingy, but has great burgers. 6:00 Malfunction Junction. Monument Road to the East. Fantastic ADV bike ride. 8:00 Capetown. Old stage stop. Day's horse travel from Petrolia and Ferndale. 9:40 Sugar Loaf Rock. Cape Mendocino. Sea Cave is on the Western face. 10:38 Steam Boat Rock. North view - old Steam Schooner. South view - Trawler. 11:50 That point is called 'Devils Gate'. 13:05 Owners of that ranch used to have Zebras. Past Petrolia, turn right, Lighthouse road down to the beach, campground. (Wind, fog.) Off Lighthouse road, Prospect ridge great views, hike access to the Punta Gorda light. A.W. Way County Park. Very nice. Old Honeydew Store - Also has a 'No Brand Burgers'. If open... it's good ! Usually at the 'Needle Rock' campsite... lots of Elk around. 'Golden Hour' is special.
