Before we get too snarky, this movie is effectively a remake of “Aelita”, one of the first full length sci-fi films made, in this case, in the Soviet Union in 1924. Aleksei Tolstoy, the original author of Aelita, gets a screenwriter credit although he died in 1945. The original Aelita revolved around class conflict and other Marxist themes, which, not surprisingly, did not figure into this Cold War era Hollywood production.

I love the subtle style of using canteen stools as seats in the very first flight in space. Those seats would snap your neck under acceleration. No belts, just reach out and grab the structures, and hope it isn't electrical.

I have to say the set design is colorful, warm and artistic. This movie maybe lacking in science but a whole lot of whimsy to make it amusing. In many ways it holds true to pulp sci fi books of the forties, a little bit fantastic, lose on the science, good guy's, bad guys, and pretty women to match.

The Martians speak perfect english with american accent ;-) That makes conversation with the martians easy and the storyline straight forward ,-) This film is definitly lacking in science and probability, but a whole lot of whimsy to make it amusing. I like the 1950thies futuristic design. Back then the rockets looked sleek an sexy, not so technical as the Saturn V, and not so boring big f'cking dildo-like as the SpaceX BFR (a. k. a. Starship) ;-) A very simple storyline, no big surprises, little suspense. Take a beer or two (or better more) to enjoy this marvel of simplicity.

The actual title is "Flight To Mars". And it was originally released in color (Cinecolor) in 1951 by Monogram Pictures. Being a "poverty row studio", it is surprising that Monogram spent the extra money for color film. Fun movie, but lets face it...a trip to Mars and our intrepid group are wearing street clothes...even Buck Rogers and Flash Gordon wore uniforms in those early serials. Speaking of uniforms, I loved the sexy outfits (mini-skirts) that the Martian women wore.

Well, the short skirts, high heels and hair styles were very attractive on the ladies, but that’s about the best I can say for this movie. The rest seems pretty silly to me. As a kid I remember some of my friends had big boxes and wooden crates we turned into space ships by adding a few on/off switches, some scavenged lightbulbs and some other knickknacks around our homes and garages. It was like that but with more “professional“ touches that this space ship was built. Gosh, if only we kids had the professional parts and abilities to build a spaceship like this in our backyards! Wow!

I'm watching in bed, and to simulate take-off of the rocket, I thrashed around in my bed as we left Earth's orbit ... It was immersive and effective! 🤣 Much later ...... Well, I'm halfway to Mars now, and after the meteor storm passed, the ride is much smoother ... I've dispatched a Space Cylinder back to Earth, and now I can't wait to meet those Martians! ... I come in peace! ... But I've got my Discombobulating Ray Gun, just in case! 🤣 That crash landing was a bit rough, but it's okay because I've got my best brown leather trousers on, and my oxygen mask, and I'm all ready to meet the Martians! Well what do you know? Those Martians are dirty double-crossers! ...
