I wonder if the M.P. Moller pipe organ in the gallery is part of the restoration? I sure hope so as the space for such an instrument would be acoustically perfect ! This organ from 1929 could be completely restored and brought back to life with the right TLC. We loose too many instruments like this owing to ignorance of restoration capabilities ! A beautiful place and tour.

Those boxes of ashes floored me! If this were a paupers’ cemetery or some shady fly-by-night operation, I could understand there being unclaimed remains, but obviously these families had money, so how are there so many unclaimed remains? This place seems to contradict itself! A beautiful rotunda with gold leaf, but weeds growing in the cracks of the sidewalk. A pristine hallway in one spot, and a decaying one with no lighting right around the corner. The basement has turned into a rotting swamp, but the roof of the building seems fine. A handsome chapel in fine shape, but someone is too lazy to wipe up body fluids in plain sight. It seems abandoned, but the guy says one of the ovens is running. What’s going on here?!? Two extremes in the same building. I’ve never seen that before. And how did the cameraman get to just walk right into the crematory as though he owned the place? This has the makings of a Twilight Zone episode. Weird!

At the end of the video the boxes of cremated remains were unreal. They've just been sitting there discarded all this time. The one label had a date of 1977 on it .

I was a meter reader for a water co. I use to do a large old funeral parlor. First time I went down stairs their was a a pile of about 20 urns. I did not think anything of it. 3 months go by I go to funeral parlor. Same thing in basement. large pile of urns. On way out I asked director if they were used. He said yes. By state law ashes cannot leave the funeral home unless claimed. The next time I went down the basement. They were all neatly lined on a shelf from the earliest year to present. Oldest was 1902. Thats old for unclaimed.

Listen final disposition is the cremated remains. Most states don’t require burial of them. I fact it is legal just to throw them in the trash

Eventually all above ground structures (Including Mausoleums) will leak, deteriorate, crumble and collapse. Tradition in-ground burial or cremation seems to be a better long-term option.

What a gorgeous set of facilities - thank you for showing us! At 7:30 is 'the pool of the black sun' and is peculiar to see; nefarious for sure - there's one that adorns the basement of the Manitoba legislative building, (resting my case,) and is built almost identically to this mausoleum.
@sublunar7 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Actually that appears to be a "pool of the black star". Personally I doubt the nefariousness of this symbolism but to each their own. The black sun symbol, however, has altogether different connotations.

5:59 I'd stay away from the Corpse Liquor. Leaking vaults are probably the most disgusting part of a Mausoleum. I don't understand the appeal these places have, why wouldn't you want a nice clean green plot of grass with a head stone and fresh flowers. These places are just so darn depressing, even when they are well kept up and in operation.

The "appeal" is often one of snobbery. Crypts are expensive and as such are rather elitist. I agree with you....a green burial or cremation makes the most sense.

One of these days, there's going to be a TV show where they dig up or out all these people to see what they look like now. Society will evolve and see no need for all this waste of land and space and the buildings will be dilapidated and ready to come down. George Carlin said "talk about urban renewal and recycling....let's start digging these people up!" "Why are we saving all the dead bodies for one part of town?" Besides, the famous graves will be dug up and opened first. Let's see what Elvis looks like or John Wayne, Clark Gable. We have movies and pictures of them to compare. Besides, look what we did to the Pharoahs in the Valley of the Kings! Took those mummies on tour!!! That's not what the ancients wanted for their dead! Few more generations ... anyone to object long gone .... and it's open crypt and casket time on TV! A ratings bonanza for a sick country that keeps getting sicker and sicker! You wait! We might not see it, but we'll star on it.... unless of course, you are cremated.

There's some brownish stain on front of several crypts, wasn't there a leaking from the casket?
@sublunar6 жыл бұрын
Yeah.. that's a definite possibility.
@cynthiawhiteeagle85465 жыл бұрын
That leakage is from the embalming fluids when the body starts drying out. There's supposed to be a receptacle but sometimes it fails! 😖
@conditionallyunconditional56913 жыл бұрын
@@cynthiawhiteeagle8546 nowadays there are several solutions to prevent seepage of fluids. • place additional absorbant liner inside the casket, prior to closing it. • exterior of casket wrapped with additional leak proof "bag" liner • or an additional capsule liner, which provides casket with adequate space to retain any leaks. I've seen all 3 of these methods done prior to internment. If the casket was made with an adequate, built-in absorbent layer, underneath of the body, most of leaks could be avoided. But you get what you pay for! Just like most businesses, they soak the customer for all these "extras". It should be standard & mandatory.

@trinacrawford81507 жыл бұрын
I always wondered if those guys came home smelling like death, like fishermen smell of fish.
@sublunar7 жыл бұрын
Indeed. One of the smaller incinerators was running at the time and I didn't smell anything from that either. But I'm guessing the phase from oven to box is probably where the smell occurs. I'm not trying to make jokes or be disrespectful about this; cremation is a part of life/death and I'm curious about the world around me so I do find it interesting. As I'm sure you are as well which is why you ask. This place was being neglected and I just did what I always do: explore it and learn from it.
