Exploring the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness - CREEPY or RELAXING?

This was an easy and relaxing overnight solo backpacking trip I had in the Pharaoh Lake Wilderness of the Adirondacks last October. Solo hiking and camping is one of my favorite ways to truly relax, but it can also get creepy in hurry. I heard some really creepy sounds that I didn't completely capture on film. The first "scream" sounded much more like a girl than the noise I captured on camera. Im not going to lie, at first I thought it was Bigfoot. It probably doesn't help that Whitehall, NY isn't too far away...or that Ive been watching so much "Mountain Beast Mysteries" and "Small Town Monsters" (check out their channels if you're into the Bigfoot topic). Eventually, I think I was able to determine that the screams were caused by some type of bird and the splashing was either a fish or a beaver--but who knows! Being out in the very dark woods alone can play tricks on your imagination. Aside from the creepy sounds, this was still a VERY relaxing and beautiful fall camping trip with peak Adirondack colors. Pharaoh Lake Wilderness has great camping spots and lean to's all along its shore...I wish I had time to do the entire loop.
Theres nothing like sitting by a soothing fire in the woods, in the dark, all alone....true camping ASMR! I can't wait for my next solo fall hike in the Adirondacks- wild camping at its finest!
Be sure to check out some of my KZbin inspirations while you're at it: "MyOwnFrontier" and "Long Wilderness Walks". They make great backpacking videos.

Hiked in from crane pond In 1982 and 1983 during the late summer. The swimming in that lake is absolutely wonderful. Swam to one of the small islands close to the shore, perhaps a quarter-mile or less. Forever in my mind.

Nice video and great hike! My buddy and I camped out at lean-to #5 on the west side of Pharaoh Lake about 2-3 weeks after you shot this video. Brings back good memories.

Yes, that is characteristic of Beavers slapping their Tail. Also, Foxes will scream, and it sounds like the screams of a Female in terror.

My favorite overnight hike! I go a few times a year. Alone and with friends. My wife says I always come home in a “zen state”

Been to Pharaoh many times... Love this place! At night I've heard beavers, loons, owls screeching suddenly... scaring me half to death. One winter night an unknown animal nearby let out something like a scream. That was interesting! Great video!

Listen to Ron Moorehead's "Sierra Sounds" the sound of a woman screaming is indeed a bigfoot. I've heard it myself, very creepy. Nice short hike, enjoy the places you take us. Be safe

I was at pharaoh lake last summer with a friend for a few overnights. Long story short we had to leave after one night the bugs were so bad. Although we did experience some eerie noises and sights of bright lights in the sky. I am from the area so I was used to the environment, but I hadn’t had too many encounters with these kinds of things.
