Okay, then from now on, every time somebody asks a general lore question about Bloodborne's story or setting, I'm going to just point them at this video, because honestly, this is the best summary I've heard yet that goes from pre-Pthumeru through the end of the game and hits virtually every story note. And if they want to get into the fine details, that's why Sin and Richie have over 1,500 videos! Though I have to disagree strongly with one assertion in this video: werewolf lawyer erotica from "Edgar, Choir Intelligencer" was far funnier than psychomatic scurvy; it had me rolling off the couch laughing and turned my wife from someone who put on headphones when I played the channel into a fan.

Hello Aesir Aesthetics, I just want to take the time to say how well crafted your analysis videos are and that I hope to see you continue doing them in the future. I am thoroughly impressed with all this unfiltered information that you managed to squeeze out of all of these games; it is very enlightening to know the depth to which these pieces of art can express, whether philosophically, thematically, and what not. One game series that has been a part of my heart and I consider my favorite game of all time is NieR. Both NieR Automata and NieR Replicant have heart wrenching depths that made me tear up in a way that no other games have not. I hope this would be a game series that you would do analysis for on the future! Nevertheless, thank you so much. God bless!

The way I view the timeline for the history of the Hunters and the Fishing Hamlet: First you have "The Old Hunters". These are the original guys, Gherman, Maria, and the others. They were originally hired by the scholars of Byrgenwerth to aid in Tomb Prospecting, and accompanied them to the Hamlet and were the ones who led the slaughter of the villagers and Kos. As an aside, I believe the way that Byrgenwerth got wind of the Hamlet was due to the slugs, presumably the village traded it's excess catches to the surrounding areas and with the slugs becoming their new staple product it's possible one found its way to Yharnam, and eventually into the hands of a scholar who recognized what it was. Anyway, things kind of fall apart after the Hamlet. Maria retires from hunting, Lawrence leaves to form the Healing Church after "eyes on the inside" and the umbilical cord don't pan out with Rom, and Gherman leaves to form an official Hunter's Workshop. This gives birth to the second generation of Hunters, the Yharnam Hunters and the Powder Kegs. To combat the Scourge of Beasts that begins once the Healing Church discovers Blood Communion, Gherman begins designing his particular brand of Trick Weapons (the saws, the hammer, the staff, etc.), all made specifically to counter those sorts of Beasts. Trick Weapons predate the workshop, including specifically Gherman's scythe, Maria's Rakuyo, and Eileen's daggers, but the scythe and daggers are specifically mentioned to be made of a metal called siderite, a special kind of iron that the game mentions "came from the heavens". One of the defining features of metals that come from meteorites ("from the heavens") is that they tend to be magnetically charged. So these original weapons were designed with magnetism in mind, rather than the more complex mechanisms we later see, but inspired the concept of two weapons within the form of a single one. Also draws interesting parallels to the idea of beasthood, right? Something that can transform into something more dangerous when it draws blood. The original Hunters were meant to be very hush hush, operating in secret in order to keep the Scourge of Beasts from becoming public. Their weapons, in their basic forms, resemble tools as much as actual weaponry and their uniforms are very casual and have few tell-tale badges or obvious symbols to give them away. The Powder Kegs were "heretical" for this reason, preferring loud and explosive solutions that, while effective, completely lacked subtlety. It's possible they were the ones charged with cleansing Old Yharnam, since a massive conflagration seems in keeping with their style and Djura is still there keeping an eye on the place. Lastly, you have the Church Hunters. Once the scourge became too big to hide after the burning of Old Yharnam, the Church set up organized, scheduled hunts (The Night of the Hunt). Led by their own people, like Ludwig, and conscripting from the ranks of the Yharnam commoners, they would ride out and viscously murder anyone out on the street or who even had a whiff of beasthood about them (which is why everyone locks up and hides on that night). By this time the beasts had started becoming bigger and more powerful, like the Cleric Beasts, so Church Trick Weapon doctrine abandoned subtlety in the favor of larger, oversized weapons that would be more effective against massive foes (Holy Blade, Kirkhammer, Pick, Ludwig Rifle).

What an truly inspiring piece of work/art Bloodborne is. This channel with all the others and their impassioned contributors and followers are surely testament to that. I had once read that an accomplished author ( I forget who) after reading James Joyce’s novel ‘Ulysses’ stated they were going to find it difficult to enjoy any other work of written fiction now as this really could not be bettered. Perhaps not the best to set absolutes as such, however I would not feel uncomfortable in raising Bloodborne to this type of level within the video game market. I have read, watched and listened to lots of fans discussing Hidetaka Miyazaki works over the years, but in my opinion this sits alone as his stand out work, across all directors works in fact, as I believe he has ‘transcended’ what a video game can actually be. I’m sure there are other games (Dark Souls) that leave the player with questions as to why or what they are tying to accomplish in game, but Bloodborne lingers in the memory long after you have completed it, the questions it asks, it’s ambiguous nature (in my opinion) raises issues with the true ‘insight’ of the real world in which we live, how we got here and what is our purpose? I have been told I read far too much into things, but great works of Art (which I think this is) can be interpreted in many different ways and affect people differently. The games very nature is one where it assumes you will gain insight to unravel the truth of what is happening and has happened and within this Miyazaki has layered an ambiguous, symbolic story that for 6 years now has attempted to be interpreted by ourselves which in turn reflects our own journey of understanding, Homo-sapiens place in the universe...where are we going, what is the purpose of life! A Philosophical, thought provoking masterpiece! If anyone is interested......? after a few playthrough‘s I had come to assume that the story was one representing that of human history...namely the rise of religious belief and seeking understanding of the world, the split (schism) in religious doctrine and faith, the advent of scientific discovery (that then challenged the faith), the inevitable wars and bloodshed and then the difficulties people’s face when they have been indoctrinated into a particular belief and have to work with other people’s with opposing ways of life. To me now when I hear those initial words ‘Oh Yes, Paleblood’ or read the note ‘Seek Paleblood to transcend the hunt’ it no longer is specifically referring to a thing or a substance for me now.....it’s referring to YOU, the HUNTER and at a more transcendental level you as a human as you make your way through this fked up world! We are all Paleblood’s, we can all transcend ourselves and the lives we live. The note was an instruction for someone (anyone) to be found that can transcend the hunt, in effect when they do they will become a great one, you will become a Paleblood! This is the real true ending, the one where true insight has been achieved, and in game you are presented as a newly evolved slug creature being cradled in the arms of a doll, created in a dream in the hope that she will be able to assist you in becoming the great hope for civilisation! For me (it’s more digestible message) is that no one true path is the right one (we partake in all three cords in game), that set doctrines will only divide people, that scientific advancement at all costs is destructive, and that all ‘people’s’ regardless of how remote or primitive they may appear have something important to add in our collective understanding. ‘People’s’ that live a simple life, like in a fishing hamlet let’s say with their local customs, resisting outer world influences, untouched by corporate business or organised religion who’s way of life was destroyed forever when unstoppable forces invaded both their lands and minds figuratively and literally. We can dream that a better way of life for all will emerge out of this nightmare soon enough, but I fear that this and future generations must bear the curse of our fathers and endure this for many more years to come! Thanks for reading.

The thing about it is that I have always noticed no one covers this. Bloodborne happens in an instant all at the same time. Think of every time you die. Or every time you level up or got to the Hunter's Dream and buy something. the only time your perception of time advances is after the death of certain bosses. and in the A canon ending after this dream in which the main character has died and fought and killed the same enemy in the same place over and over and over again, German cuts their head of and the dream stops and he wakes up. B ending the character is stuck in the dream without ascending. C ending the Hunter transcends the Hunt.. The hunt is a dream. Implying that the Hunters transcends the dream itself. Becoming not just a dreamer but a dream themselves.
@masterzoroark66643 жыл бұрын
My idea about how the things went in fishing hamlet is that hunters asked the villagers to show them Kos, their god. Villagers summoned Kos ashore and once it was proven that the village harbors an Old One hunters were tasked with killing everyone, because otherwise Kos couldn't be disected and studied without interruption

Just a small point here I want to make out of everything here. Viccar Amelia replaces Lawrence after he had fallen from grace so they had leader(s) after Lawrence, which means the loss of their authority over the city might have been more gradual than stated here. To me that is relevant because then instead of Lawrence dealing with other factions from start to finish, there were other Viccars that might have had agreements or deals with that wouldn't have been considered originally.

I always liked the idea that the reason great ones and their children always die is because hunters like the player live to kill them.
@darkslayer11613 жыл бұрын
All these great ones, are probably people who lost their families when they ascended. They lost the knowledge of their past life, and gained the knowledge of the place they ascended to. But they still crave having a child to call their own. But they can't do it themselves. Why else would they stick around?
@remuskane8684 Жыл бұрын
So, how I always understood the whole “becoming a great one” thing was that when humanity entered it’s “next childhood” or whatever it is, is that now, for the first time, a human has become a great one. Isz (I think that’s how you spell it) was a successful city that touched the great ones, Loren was a failed city that was destroyed by the great ones, and Yharnum birthed a new great one. Every great one mourns their children, because they always come out stillborn. There hasn’t been a new, true great one for an incredibly long time. That’s why the Moon Presence tries to kill you. The Moon Presence’s whole thing was preventing great ones from becoming too powerful, but she found a rival in you. Edit for typos

But the dungeons also have a little bit of Lovecraft's Dreamlands of Unknown Kadath quality. Now, the bb Dreamlands are closer, but with lovecraftian beings, world's tend to get muddled together when strong enough ones get too close or involved...
