I am out in search of nature. To help me explore Thursley's special nature reserve, in Surrey, is Kevin Hall and Cynthia Walder.
Join us as we take to the boardwalk and venture out over the peat bog and grassland in search of wildlife and all things nature.
It is one of the last remaining heathlands in Surrey. It is famed for its diverse wildlife. Whilst crossbill, red kite, woodlark and stonechat are regularly seen, birds such as Dartford warbler, whinchat, wheatear, tree pipit and redstart are frequently encountered. Rarer birds including osprey, black redstart and great grey shrike also visit the common. The Common is also an ideal place to see viviparous lizard or common lizard.

Surrey has some wonderful countryside - a lot of people think it is just endless suburbia. This looks like a great place to go for a walk... and, I heard the cuckoo!

A great film of one of my favourite places. If you had come on a sunnier day you wouldn't have been able to move for lizards on the boardwalk.Thursley Heath is truly England's answer to the Galapagos Islands.

😍 I love hearing the cuckoo! I've only ever seen one once. We used to hear it every year where we live, until houses were built on the surrounding fields😕 We did hear the cuckoo this weekend whilst out and about in our campervan in beautiful Wales 😊

It must have travelled up north then! :) There is only one cuckoo in the country you know. But it gets about a fair bit.

Great fun was had by all. Those poor birders suddenly having you thrusting a microphone at them! The skylark reminds me of my childhood out on the Downs. Sadly on the decline due to habitat loss☹️

Cracking place that Richard looked like Surrey’s version of the Florida Everglades 👍

Lovely walk with a couple of nice people. Only @ short distance from London and I think just goes to prove that people are never far from the country side.if only they would visit.

Interesting I did not realize that England had such diversity in their geography - I thought it was all lush & green. Thanks for introducing this part of England w/ the rest of the world! Beautiful!

@@RichardVobes sounds like Oregon. We have the ocean to the west then as you come inland you have the green valleys w/ lots of rivers & farming. Then the Cascade Mntns w/ their snowy peaks & high lakes, & on the east side of the state is the high dessert.

Hi guys, nice video, thank you . As Richard knows I am living here in Oklahoma .Out side of a what they call a city. Far enough that mostly the night sky is aussum. And the wild life was terrific but the "city" is spreading so fast. Anyway I do miss English country side, it's was so good to be able to walk the bears and to be able to sit and enjoy it,with out getting eaten by bugs. Anyway thanks for the videos looking forward to your next

Nice place. I have plenty of skylarks here. Nice to see you running, not bad for a man in his 70's. Off topic, but I have always wondered why people subscribe, then don't bother to watch. You have 5,300 subscribers, and around 800 of those watch your videos. I find that too, I have over 4000 subscribers, and around 300 of those watch my videos!!!

I do not understand how it works when it comes to subscriptions. Perhaps it just seems like a good idea at the time and then they forget.

What an absolute delight. You three clearly had a lot of fun recording that. I thought that the boardwalk gave the landscape a slightly Si-Fi look as you past over it, but not through it!

That was a great video Richard, Them bird spotters are a bit like train spotters!! I did hear that cuckoo! Or was it just sound effects 🤔 whilst on the subject of cuckoo's the cuckoo railway line is called what it is because the first cuckoo of spring is said to cuckoo on the Heathfield aggurculturel show. But ironicly you herd one and I don't think the show has happend yet!! Well done great video 👍

There is a similar area in Florida USA with long long boardwalks. Can't remember what it's called (old age). A few subtle differences though...no alligators! No Vobes either :-) Nice one, thanks.

Thursley is named after the god Thor. The village church has the grave of the unknown sailor who was murdered at the Devils Punchbowl.
