James Bond’s Skyfall film locations revealed at Hankley Common, Surrey. My film takes you on a tour around the stunning Hankley Common in search of the locations featured in the 2012 Daniel Craig Bond movie Skyfall. Bond is now appearing in the 25th Bond film No Time to Die.
Skyfall was arguably Daniel Craig’s best bond film, in which Bond back from the dead helped M, when MI6 and it’s agents came under attack from a mysterious enemy. Bond and M are forced to go off grid and return to Bond’s ancestral home in Scotland for a thrilling showdown. Filmmakers used Hankley Common extensively to double for Bond’s Scotland ancestral home. The crew built the Skyfall entrance, lodge and chapel here. My film takes you on a tour of the common and shows you where these scenes were filmed.
Actors present during the filming on Hankley Common included Daniel Craig, Judi Dench, Javier Bardem and Albert Finney. Scenes featuring Bond’s Aston Martin DB5 were also filmed on Hankley Common. The assault on Skyfall Lodge by Raoul Silva played by Javier Bardem and his henchmen was filmed at Hankley Common, included an Augusta Westland AW101 helicopter. The special effects team then had the task of destroying the Lodge built at Hankley Common with explosives to create a massive explosion. Interior filming was completed at Pinewood Studios.
Hankley Common is a Ministry of Defence training ground and is also a special area of conservation and scientific interest, providing a haven for birds and wildlife. The army hold 3-4 intense training days per year at the common so it is worth checking the website before you go. The common is constantly in use, so if there are excercises going on, follow the signs stick to the paths and allow respectful distance.
The terrain can be undulating and boggy and due to military use it is advisable to stick to the paths. Good walking shoes are advised. There are porta-loo toilets dotted about but no refreshments on site. The Common has some stunning scenery and traces of World War 2 history. How to find Hankley Common: Hankley Common, Thursley Rd, Elstead, Godalming GU8 6LW. The main car park can be accessed from a turning off Thursley Road at a bend in the road.
The road has pot-holes so drive carefully.
