What these historians and travel barkers don't tell us is the real stories behind these family castle owners, and that's because the story is ugly - it's all about crimes and greed - if this was a more honest world it would make these castles pass to the people to benefit from the tourism since back in the day it was they who suffered via these scoundrel elites?

Very beautiful! Saint Philip Howard is my 12 great uncle! So glad I am able to see Arundel Castle thanks to you!
@Sveinbeard Жыл бұрын
I always find these things hard to believe. Philip Howard died in 1595. If you take a generation to be 30 years, that equals 12*30 which is 360 years. Nowhere near enought to date back to 1595. Even if you take an extreme of 40 years as a generation, which is stretching it somewhat, 12 greats just about makes it. factor in that people lived shorter lives, realistically, a few more than 12 greats is needed.
@terryl.cooper Жыл бұрын
@@Sveinbeard You must not have any royals or nobles in your family. I've seen 50+ y/o men married to teenagers and the reverse. Women have died in their 40s having been married 4x and had numerous children, usually dived up by all of the husbands. So you're modern-day "math" doesn't apply here.

Though you could not film the interior, you have us a very full and excellent tour of the castle and surrounding gardens. The cathedral is beautiful. I loved the natural wood ceiling with gold medallions, and the gothic carving on the walls. I find those centuries old effigies fascinating. At first I was surprised to see palm trees in the fabulous gardens, then I remembered my cousins (who live in W. Sussex) telling me it's warmer and dryer there than most of England. The gardens are so well designed; very unique and creative choices made by talented people over the years. I could wander around the place for hours. Thank you for another lovely experience. Cheers from S. California, where we have lots of palm trees. :)

Just went to Arundel Castle yesterday! It really is incredible and no photo/video really does it justice. Mind blowing to think people are still living there. We were informed that during out of season when it's closed to public, the residents move into the parts of the castle that have the displays 😄 Very lucky to live somewhere as historic as this.

Many years ago I had a strange experience in the chapel where the tombs are. As soon as I walked into the building I had a feeling like something was squeezing on my windpipe, I had it the whole time I was in there. Once I left, it had gone. Never had it before or since. I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience there. Lovely video, always love going past the castle.
