One of the largest neighborhoods in Brooklyn is Williamsburg, and this was the first neighborhood I officially called "Home" in New York City. I loved it here, so I simply HAD to share this area with you!
This video starts on a personal level, where I show you EXACTLY where I used to live, my former subway stop, etc. Then, we move on to the facets of Williamsburg that belong to "everyone" 😉.
I show you the impressive restaurant scene- and even take you into one of my favorites (Sunday in Brooklyn). I also show you multiple coastal spots where you can enjoy views of the iconic Manhattan skyline. We meander the main drag (the area of Williamsburg that gives it a hip reputation) and then pop into a local market (Artists & Fleas). We even enjoy an interview with a jewelry designer!
Williamsburg is a neighborhood totally worth your time- both in "real" life and through this video!
COMMENT! What else do you want to experience with me in NYC?

Damn!! I used to live at that building where Sunday in Brooklyn is when I first moved to nyc in the late 80’s.!! I lived on the ground floor! No heat, no hot water…..my landlord was a real piece of work!

Hi Hava - Williamsburg was a no go when I grew up in NYC ( Late 70's - Early 80's ) but has rebounded incredibly well. Love all those old documentaries about that time. I learned how to be streetwise as a kid & that has benefited me as an adult. You're videos are technically amazing. Congratulations 😃

Hey David!! So great to hear from you. Thanks for sharing how you relate! (Thanks for the compliment too. 😊) Have you seen Los Sures? My boyfriend and I rented it at one point and it was amazing to see how intersections like South 2nd/Roebling looked in the 70s!

Considering that I eat pescatarian-style, I won’t be much help on the meat recommendations. I’ve actually only had mozzarella sticks once so far in the city, but they were great! AND they were great even though they were gluten-free. So here’s another restaurant rec- Rubirosa! Fantastic food and accommodating if you happen to find yourself with anyone who needs a gluten-free selection

I never lived there but visited many times. I live in DC right now, but did live in NYC but in the East Village. But when I visit now I stay in Williamsburg at the Wythe Hotel which is on the border of Williamsburg and Greenpoint.

Williamsburg is a great place to stay because it’s close to La Guardia Airport, just 1-2 stops away from Manhattan, and cool in its own right too. I love DC! My dad grew up in the area, so I’ve been there many times. Hope you’ve enjoyed some cherry blossoms this season! 🌸 The East Village is an area I haven’t explored as much- would love your recs!

How easy is to go to Manhattan? And how long does it takes?
@hava-media
@hava-media 9 ай бұрын
To get from Williamsburg to Manhattan, the commute time depends on where you are in Williamsburg because the neighborhood is so large, and there are multiple subway lines that service the neighborhood! WHICH means that it's easy to get to/from Manhattan! The most popular subway line in Williamsburg is the L (which is denoted by both the letter L, as well as the color grey), and it has a handful of stops in Williamsburg. The J and M lines also service Williamsburg via the south side of the neighborhood. The NYC Ferry also makes two stops to Williamsburg on its route. As far as commute time goes, I would estimate that it takes about 4 minutes on the subway from the closest subway stops (Marcy Ave for the MJ and Bedford for the L). On the other extreme, I'd estimate that it can take 10-15ish minutes if you take the NYC Ferry. That said, these are just estimates off the top of my head, as someone who has made those commutes a million times. You could use Google Maps to get a more accurate trip length, especially if you want to map two spots in particular, and the length of time it can take can also depend on how frequently subway lines are running (which is oft based on time of day).

@@hava-media if this a good area? 360 S 1st St, Brooklyn, NY 11211 Or this one is better? 261 Berry St Brooklyn, NY 11249 Or this one? 790 Grand St, # 3, Brooklyn, NY 11211 Good in terms of close to subways, restaurants, close to Manhattan and safe?
@hava-media
@hava-media 9 ай бұрын
I think those are all great as far as safety goes. For proximity to Manhattan, they’re all going to be pretty close. It’s a matter of whether you’re near a subway line or not. Look at the map and see how long the walk is from those addresses to the subway station for more clarity.

80’s and 90’s S4 & Hewes (when my hood was live). Willy-B has come a long way but the overwhelming majority of videos just show you the side with the waterfront and the North Side which is a little disingenuous IMO. Willy-B is MUCH bigger than these videos depict and the side they show you in these videos are VERY expensive in comparison. Someone made the decision to knock down my old church and put up an apt building where no one in the immediate area could afford to live. Broke my heart, but that’s the price to pay for gentrification. It kicked out a lot of the “non-desirables” but also alot good people who just couldn’t afford to live there anymore. I'm glad my mom's still holding strong there. I do like taking my kids to Domino Park when I visit.
@hava-media

Thank you for sharing your story! As someone who used to live on the south side, I hope you noticed that at the beginning of the video I acknowledged more to the neighborhood than just Bedford Street and Domino Park. That said, as many others do, this video was definitely heavily influenced by the north side. A lot of the excitement is up there, so for me (and probably many others) it’s more fun to cover. Williamsburg is one of the largest neighborhoods in Brooklyn, so covering the entire thing in one video would be a major feat. That said, if you (or anyone reading this conversation) would like to contribute to the conversation further to expose other viewers to what else Williamburg has to offer, I would encourage you to tell us about it in a comment. What are other parts of Williamsburg that you really like? What restaurants (or other establishments) do you recommend?

Sorry, as a New Yorker you lost me when you said “I’ll wait 30 minutes for the table” …disgusting
@hava-media
@hava-media 5 ай бұрын
Lollll I needed a table so that I could place my camera on it. Also… New Yorker, if you kept watching, you’d also realize that a very “New Yorker” thing to do with a wait is to find a way to capitalize on the time by doing something else with it. Just a thought. But I’m not about to get into the trivial debate about what defines a New Yorker. My videos won’t be everyone’s jam, so if you’re not into it, just stop watching. Please refrain from writing rude comments. “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” Respect, please.
