This is awesome! I've been doing a bit of a deep dive into HDR images and its been quite tricky and frustrating. I do game photography primarily, that is to say I compose shots virtually in games and the take a screenshot, and I've recently gotten a new oled monitor that can do peak 1000 HDR (and its freaking awesome!) So the images I save via the Xbox game bar app are a .jxr hdr image (16-bit) and a auto tonemapped png (8-bit). I've recently discovered there is a plugin for Photoshop that allows opening .jxr files and using the hdr display tech preview for ACR allows me to edit these HDR images in HDR. However.. I've really been curious to see if its possible to up some of my older shots to HDR and this video confirms that it is possible 😊 also more than likely going to pick up Web Sharp Pro since I'm a sucker for automation 😂 Thanks for the vid!

Yep, if it can open in PS, you can export via my software or ACR as an HDR AVIF (or a few other formats, but AVIF is the way to go at this time).

I followed all of the steps exactly, to convert to HDR. When the image opens in ACR it displays as HDR properly, but when I export it, it will not display in HDR no matter what. I used all the same exact export settings as you. What am I missing? Everything is up to date.

If it opens as HDR in ACR it worked. Your failure elsewhere is either because you’re viewing it without support in some other app or the image was transcoded (uploading to any website can break an image, support is not universal yet).

OFF topic question Greg: As I recall, you use to shoot with a Nikon D810 way back. I wonder if you are still a Nikon shooter and wether you have any reviews or settings advice on the new Nikon Z8. Thank you!
@gregbenzphotography Жыл бұрын
I’m using the Nikon Z7ii, as the Z8 adds more size/weight than benefit for my use. I’m still adapting to it. The loss of RGB blinkies is a concern for quick and accurate exposure, and the lack of bracketing button makes things pretty slow when needed. Please email me in a month or two and I’ll probably have more specific advice.

@@gregbenzphotography Thanks, Greg. I shall do it! I suspect that you will eventually fall in love with the z8 😃

I see its benefit for other uses, but truly not worth the extra size and weight for my needs. I’m eager for the next Z7.

@@gregbenzphotography Same here.. I don't need that extra size, weight and megapixel. I just need a z6iii between 24-33MPx. If the weight can be a trade off for you, the d850 which has RGB blinkies and bracketing button is still very good for landscape and nightscape

Thanks for the update. At 1:30 under file extension I don't have the option .AVIF Checked the option AVIF in web sharp pro. Even in web sharp pro, don't have the box *enhance SDR to HDR Have all the good system versions. MacBook

@@gregbenzphotography Everything works perfectly. I also read the entire HDR section on your site. I'm using an M2 MacBook, and the difference in image quality between HDR and SDR is incredible. Now, I do have a comment/question. The AVIF story may be great, but I can't really do much with it. Instagram doesn't use it. Opening it on an Android phone doesn't work. Opening it on a Mac using Preview, the photo looks bad. Squarespace doesn't support avif. Only Google Chrome displays it... What's the point of creating HDR content? Or am I missing something?
@gregbenzphotography Жыл бұрын
You’re just early. It will be everywhere in time. An upcoming file standard will make it much easier as a single image will show as HDR where supported and SDR elsewhere. Android 14 supports HDR, so a lot of phones will have it soon too.

Hmm. When I click "Sharpen" ACR does NOT open. Did I miss a setting? Using current version of WSP, ACR, and Ps. It just saves as a tif, even though I have the same settings as shown in the video.
@gregbenzphotography11 ай бұрын
You need to set WSP preferences for the output file type (change from TIF to save via ACR). Make sure to check both the SDR and HDR file type outputs.

Can you check the video once again, it has looks like washed out !!!
@gregbenzphotography Жыл бұрын
KZbin’s automatic tone mapping is doing that. The video will look much better on an HDR display.
@DevAcharya Жыл бұрын
@@gregbenzphotography Is there any way to watch this video on Normal display ?
@gregbenzphotography Жыл бұрын
It’ll look as you see it. I’m exploring better ways to post to KZbin to control the SDR rendition. I’ve learned a lot about HDR photos, but have a lot to learn still on HDR videos. It’s pretty tricky.
