Dear Greg, I hope you’re doing well. I’m reaching out because I’ve encountered some issues with HDR monitors while using my MacBook Air M3, and I was hoping to get your expert opinion. I started using an HDR1600 monitor from a Chinese company called Skyworth. It has a full-screen sustainable brightness of 1000 nits, a peak brightness of 1600 nits, and features 2,304 local dimming zones. Essentially, it’s a more affordable alternative to the ASUS ProArt Display PA32UCXR. When I enable HDR on both MacBook Air and monitor, the colors on the monitor appear very pale and washed out, except when I’m watching HDR videos-then the colors look normal. While editing in Lightroom with HDR enabled, I notice that some areas, like the sun, appear significantly brighter, which I really like, but overall the colors still seem desaturated. Is this normal behavior when using HDR monitors with Macs? Do you think I would experience the same issue if I were to use the ASUS ProArt Display PA32UCXR 32 instead? I’m trying to decide between getting a Mac Mini M4 Pro with a new monitor or purchasing a MacBook Pro 16-inch M4 Pro. I will mainly use it to edit HDR photos. Any advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Really struggling with this. Not using apple, using pc, not sure that matters. I've created a smart layer, but i cant double press to open camera raw, I have to open it from the filter drop down in PS. None of these new features are there, even though I have ticked use the AI features. Any idea what Im doing wrong? also in camera raw I have no option to change colour profile, it only shows colour or monochrome in the dropdown list. ** UPDATE Think I've found a work around, I have to open the photo in LR first, open as a smart object in PS, then it all works. It will not work if you just open the file in PS or if you open in PS via LR without selecting open as a smart object in PS.

Are you using the HDR sRGB color space for IG?

I think there are too many pictures. Half would have been enough and the pano wouldn't have been half the resolution. Less is often more. Despite everything, well done.

I'm jumping , finally to MAC, I only do Lr and Ps, no video. I have this two on my shopping cart, with a 1000 difference. the Apple M4 Pro Chip 14‑Core CPU, 20‑Core GPU, 16‑Core 48 RAM and the Apple M4 Max Chip mit 16‑Core CPU, 40‑Core GPU, 16‑Core 48 RAM. Do you think it is necessary the second one, or the 1st option (the cheaper) is more than enough, future proof (maybe 5 years). Thank you.

Does anyone know how to RESTORE the way Adobe used to create ENHANCED versions of, say, the DENOISE feature? In the past, it created separate raw files with the enhancement applied, which while making furhter files, can actually be useful for many uses. It labelled them ENHANCED etc. The new version, applies the denoise (the AI Denoise) to the same file. But I've found it buggy and fails to apply the setting on every image, and having denoised raws separate, can be quite useful to pass on to other users, as the noise reduction is kind of baked in.

Is this problem avoided if you use Lightroom Classic to convert from ProPhoto editing to SRGB (for the web)? Is it still true with new masking features in LrC?

Hi I noticed yesterday ( not sure if I’m doing something wrong ) when I opened a 5 image AEB / HDR as a smart object & tried to go back to work on it the features had gone even also as a non smart object I could not go back to camera raw & re adjust anything if I needed too ie denoise etc as the options was gone, am I doing something wrong ? Also & have reported this next scenario to Adobe ( I do drone photography ) same hassleblad lense as per your picture, when doing a wide ( 180 pano 21 image ) have you tried to apply denoise ? Camera raw must hate it the picture renders looks ok for about a couple of seconds then it goes to almost luminous RGB colours & you have to remove denoise anyone know a fix ? Right annoying …. I'm so new to Adobe (five weeks) that when I have seen that message, I thought it meant Adobe wanted to update the software again. It seems like every time I turn around, Adobe Cloud wants to update so, I just ignored it altogether:)

Adobe like Apple are doing weird updates presently. Lightroom and ACR are no longer aligned for Adobe and IPHONE 15 is not able of Apple Intelligence. Weird times. Thank you for this post, it clarifies a lot and avoid a lot of frustration for the users.

Thank you for the video! But honestly, I’m getting annoyed with Adobe. Why the hell can’t they put those features in Lightroom beta or something? Makes life room, kind of useless if you actually wanna use new features. Not only the extra step of pushing every image to Photoshop, but also the fact that photo shops to look and save back DNG files. And even if it could, you definitely have to files then and double the space. Sorry I know I’m not the right place… but it really annoys me.

This was SO helpful! I thought it was my Ram. I have a 2015 MBP with 16gb ram and thought the reason opening raw photos took forever was my ram was all used up. I watched your video, brought up the cpu graph and just changing a few settings on my Lightroom edits shot my cpu to 600% while my ram never moved. It’s an old quad core so I’m guessing the new 14-core M4 backboom pro shouldn’t have any issue with it! That’s the one I’m looking at. Thank you so much for the video, I’m. Much more confident that what I’m buying will more than fix the issues I’m having with beyond slow Lightroom issues

I tried this and my dark image opens in PS with weird colours, blues, ambers, just looks horrendous. Not sure what Ive done, am using Lumenzia 11.8.0.

I’m like you video however I still get “Crop” not “Crop 7 Fill”. And regenerative fill is NOT there. I am running ACR 17.0 as per the title of the video. Any ideas?

I am entirely new to LR (like, 2 weeks new) so I gave it a real test. I tried some images I took in a very dark bar with multiple colored light sources at ISO 25,600. I tried everything I know how to do in Darktable and got something I could live with but it took several modules and a lot of tinkering. A single click on AI denoise left me saying, "Wow!" Yeah, still lots of noise but I could get something I liked enough for social media without leaving my model looking like a cartoon character.

Thanks for this review! I see that Adobe Adaptive is more suitable for landscape photography. I applied this effect to an interior photograph, which is my area of focus, and I wasn't satisfied with the result.

I have downloaded and installed PS 2025, LR Classic 14 and ACR 17. BUT, I cannot seem to access any of these new Ai features, especially Adobe Adaptive Profile. It just doesn't show in the profile dropdown menu. What am I missing?

Thanks for the video Greg. I had a play with the non-destructive denoise feature and notice that if I apply it, come out of Camera Raw back to PS, then go back to Camera Raw the denoise is no longer applied, and I have to go through the rigmarole of waiting a few minutes for it to apply again. I think I prefer to stick with the denoised DNG output and work from that.

Hi Greg ... when I open a RAW image as a Smart Object in PS and then double click to open ACR I get the message that Denoise is not currently available for Smart Objects. I'm using ACR V17 and have tried to figure out what I may be doing differently than you are but nothing seems to give me the option you have shown

Is there any possibility to run camera raw as a standalone application?

Hi! I installed this today and the Adaptive Profile feature is missing. I did check the technology preview box and restarted PS Beta and even my computer. I have every other new feature but that one. The only options in the Profiles drop down are Adobe Color, Monochrome and Browse. What am I missing?

As far as the Denoise I still think I will bring that in as a separate raw “smart object” layer file into Photoshop so that I have more flexibility to localize it into the original raw file.

It is finally so great to see someone else working in (and teaching) raw layers in Photoshop! I’ve been preaching this from the mountaintops for about six years with stupid amounts of negative flack (which is normative when you’re a pioneer.). But YAY, people are finally starting to catch on! Your videos are always great! 👍🏼

Many Thanks for sharing this valuable info on the new features, much appreciated! The adaptive profile seems to me a very promising feature. Obviously it depends on the image at hand, but at least it offers an alternative over the traditional manual approach. I would love to see a feature addressing the WB in similar manner. Non destructive noise reduction with the possibility to tweak the slider at later point is a killer function and a huge time and storage saver. Hope these will be ported over to LRC soon. (I know ACR is the same, however still prefer LRC as starting point from workflow prospective). Also I like the perspective correction with generative fill and seeing the potential once it will push out full resolution fills.

THX a ton for the informative video Greg ... nicely done and well explained the new features !!!! I do have the same issue like another guy further down the pipe ... I have updated to PSCC 2025 and have enabled the settings in ACR to make use of the non destructive AI feature , but it does not work as shown in your video . I am always ending up in the window where it is does produce a DNG file ... ??!! OS is Mac Sonoma . Do ihave to change settings in PS itself ??? Kind regards Andreas
