Although all of the illegitimate records I discuss were obtained years ago, - if it isn't already apparent from what I say in the video - I do NOT condone any of my past behaviour in the slightest, as there are no excuses. I should have come out about these records much earlier than I did, but the longer you wait, the harder it becomes. I do NOT think that past cheaters should be let off scot-free for coming forward, but I do hope that this inspires more people to do so, and hopefully a compromise of some sort can be made. (Such as providing handcam, live recordings, et cetera.)

Really good video, I respect the honesty and maturity of how you handled your mistakes. Also I find it nice how both communities responded, at the end of the day most of these competitive communities are really just getting together with people over a game that they enjoy, and being willing to forgive someone for doing something dumb in the past when they come clean and make an honest effort to improve themselves just shows both sides involved are made up of good people.

Yeah. I came to this video after hearing him mention his own cheating in his video on Jcool. I was curious how he could be so casual about it and what had been the fallout. It's good to see he came clean on his own and left his fate up to the community. I was surprised they only removed the times he admitted to cheating and didn't seem to have much penalty beyond that, but it makes sense given that he admitted to cheating while not under any suspicion. Better to reward honesty with minimal penalty than to be punitive and incentivize others to lie endlessly. An uplifting display of practicing rehabilitative justice.

I bet this was really hard to make... bravo for standing up & not only admitting to your mistakes, but doing so in a public forum to act as an example to others - that takes true character. We _all_ make mistakes... and it's important for communities to recognise that there is a _big_ difference between those willing to accept responsibility & the consequences of their actions, and those who equivocate when they get caught. Cheaters should always have to answer for their betrayal of the community's trust, but it pays to show fairness & consideration in deciding on their penalties rather than a one-size-fits-all heavy-handed approach.
@Goober13md

I always appreciate when people are willing to acknowledge the difference between people taking accountability and people being sorry they got caught. It was a tough thing to own up to, frankly because of how embarrassing it is, but was absoultely necessary for both me and the communities to properly move on and leave this in the past. A small price to pay considering the legitimate players I hurt and stole credit / prestige from with my actions.

thanks for the shoutout!!! by the way, did you hear that there’s actually no proof that flower actually spliced his run of Red Ball? the audio lines up perfectly, even though that was what SixRock claimed was the issue with his run.

No worries! And yeah I actually saw your forum posts about that earlier today. I never looked into it myself, but I do remember SixRock looking at the audio and deducing there was an issue with it; I can't remember what though.

I may have spotted a correction: The caption at 3:05 states that packattack04082's score of 35980 on Advanced 11 was legitimate, but at 55:56 in your latest video ("Was Super Monkey Ball's GREATEST PLAYER Actually the BIGGEST CHEATER?!"), you state that new evidence strongly suggests this record and others by packattack were pause-cheated.

I got a bit of a chuckle tbh. Because I got your video about how this is the only viable way to cheat in MonkeyBall where you said its not worth it and pointless and then this video is what played next. Props for bravery. If I may-- did that video play a roll in guilt you felt over your runs and did it make it harder to come out having used that exact method?
@Goober13md
@Goober13md 2 жыл бұрын
I think the video you're referring to is my video discussing potential splicing methods for a real-time speedrun (RTA), in which I concluded the only viable cheating method was splicing the video when the continue screen appears. That is not the same cheating method discussed in this video. This video discusses an entirely different type of SMB competition, where players compete for the highest score on an individual level (IL) in Practice Mode rather than compete for the fastest time across an entire difficulty in Normal Mode, and the cheating method discussed was only possible for this particular type of competition, due to a different ruleset and proof requirement. If you want to find out more, I cover the topic of cheating in ILs more thoroughly in my video about Jcool114 cheating: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZ3TiIaDbK-aqNE In other words, I didn't use any of the methods discussed in my video about splicing when I cheated my SMB high scores, and as a result, I don't think that video played any role in the guilt I felt over my high scores. It was something that kept building up over time, along with the realisation that something I originally thought was harmless was actually very damaging and disrespectful to a community I really care about.

@@Goober13md Thank you for the correction, I'm not familiar with ANNNY of this and appreciate you taking the time to explain it and for the link. I think what truly matters is at the end of it all you recognize what you did was wrong and didn't wait to get caught to come out and apologize. You seem like a legitimately very honest person and I'm glad the community was as forgiving because I feel you've earned that. I'll check out the link now! Edit: I was actually referring to the rapid pause, I thought you had said because of all the many different variables splicing was just too difficult.

Knowing now that JCool was also a cheater, it shows even more how awful cheating is and how using an honor system is simply distructive: you put a legitimate score, a cheater beat it in a day, and this gave you the input to cheat. Clearly it wasn't the sole factor, but it probably was the strongest factor in this case. However, on the other side of the coin, you coming clean about your cheating contributed to better proof standards and helped out immensely in the investigation to uncover JCool's cheating.

there's something still slightly slick about this video. It's like he's getting something out of showing the world how smart he was to cheat, and even worse, how not smart the community is because they didn't find the ways they could have caught it out. Not a surprising mindset though from someone that was willing to cheat in these ways though
@Goober13md

You're right, I didn't make this video to get something bad I did off my chest that had been weighing on me for 5 years, but to slyly slag off the communities I've been part of and my friends of the past almost 9 years for not suspecting me of cheating, while at the same time making myself look clever for using straightforward cheating methods to get times and scores when I was 14. I definitely haven't changed at all since I was 14 so I still have the exact same horrible mindset I did when I cheated and will only ever do something good if I have something to gain from it. The world would have been much more interesting if I never made this video so you didn't have something to watch and comment on; instead there should just have been nothing and I should have waited for other people to find out I cheated and admitted to it then.
