Now MY PJO hot take is that Luke trying to take down the gods is actually on my list of good things he's done, but the fact he was gonna replace them with Kronos who is even worse also means that, yeah, you need to stop him. Also I think Jason's death scene was top tier from my memory, one of the best, most impactful scenes in the series. But I may need to reread it, it could have been solely the fact I had no idea they were going to go there. Edit again: I do like Leo, but I definitely think his constant flirting personally made me not LOVE love him, y'know? It makes sense why he does it (constant need for love) so I don't consider it a massive deal breaker for me, but y'know, I think everyone can relate to being hit on when you really don't want to be. Not a great feeling. Edit 3: "Jason is now suddenly a hero for not being homophobic" dude, he died saving the day on a quest, and really stepped up to make sure all gods and goddesses were worshipped and respected, he couldn't even finish his life's mission because he died saving others. Jason doesn't deserve any of the hate he gets, y'all just can't handle Percy not being a POV character and Jason got the brunt of it.

I always liked Leo’s flirtiness, I thought it was funny 😅 but I’ve never been hit on before so idk what that’s like. I’m 17 now but when I first read the books I was very charmed by Leo 😂

I have one: Percy is not very sociable and doesn't have many friends. Of course he is cool and helps people, and is friendly sometimes. But he is not very close with anyone other than Annabeth and Grover (and maybe Thalia?). He likes other campers, but they are just not close. I wish he would be more open, I think he is sometimes kinda lonely, like in the new school, he eats by himself and has no friends. But again, must be hard growing up changing schools every year...and also, he lost so many campers in the first war.

I'm not sure that's really a controversial take? Like that's just ... an observation of the series And honestly it's one of my favorite things about him. Ofc you're entitled to your own opinion but I'm still gonna tell you you're wrong :) I have literally two friends. And one of them I talk to idk once a month? I really love that Percy is willing to talk to people, he realizes that if he has the chance to be a bright spot in someone's day he might as well take it, but he doesn't really crave their company. He doesn't need to be around PEOPLE, he just needs to be around ANNABETH. And that's great, because it's how I feel - I actively DISLIKE being around people, but not this friend So although I think you're right about him not having friends after I think about it, he never seemed lonely to me - it's just how he sees the world and how he wants it to be and he's brave enough to go and talk to someone else if he really felt like it

Hot take I get annoyed at the fandom for how they treat percys and nicos relationship they always treat percy like he bullied nico and what most annoys me is how everyone gets so mad at percy for choking nico in blood of olympus (I believe that was the book) but you have to remember that percy was 16 angry at him for betraying him (atleast that what he thinks) and giving him to hades and he was alseep and nico suddenly sneaked up to him.but in general I get annoyed at how the Fandom has romanticized nico so much into this little angel who can do no wrong (no hate towards nico though)and they both have questionable moments .also, this is just my opinion and srry if this didn't make since Im not the best with grammar.

I definitely agree with you. They both act badly to each other at times, but people forget how Percy spent the summer after Titan’s Curse trying to find Nico and make amends, and Nico doesn’t always do the right thing either. They’re both just kids, so it makes sense how they act, but I hate how some people infantilise Nico and act like he can do no wrong

I like the Titans Curse also, mostly because of Zoe and Nico but it was a good book, plus we get to meet Blackjack witch is the best lol 🤣He is so unhinged I love it. And the scene with Aphrodite and Percy was so funny, but over all it was a pretty sad book and I'm a sucker for those, even if I am very mad/sad in the end. I still like happy endings though.

I think that Frank being buff was only a temporary thing due to the blessing of Mars, I remember in Tyrants Tomb Apollo said something about him growing back into himself. Love your videos P.S I just learned that people don't like Tyrants Tomb but I like it because of Reyna, Frank, Hazel, and Lavinia. Also Artemis and Apollo's dynamic? And there were some sad deaths in there too. What's not to like?

I love both. Percabeth is better, and more iconic. Solangelo is so sweet and funny at the same time. I love they way the pick in each other, but also support each other so much. With “significant annoyance” and “doctors orders” is just so cute.

I don’t quite see Leo as a bully because to me his bad behavior towards other characters was out of carelessness rather than maliciousness. So I wouldn’t call him a bully, but I would still call him an insensitive jerk. Though ToA is self aware of how much of a jerk he is and he (rightfully) gets punched in the face by everyone at Camp Half Blood, Jason gets so angry when he finds out Leo is alive and didn’t tell anyone that he nearly fries every electrical device in the room, then Jason dies and Leo never gets to see him again due to his actions. Also yes, Kane Chronicles has an incredible final battle. One of the best in the Riordanverse. It’s epic, desperate, and it truly feels like the world is ending. I was pretty mixed on KC as a whole, but it has its strengths.

Here's my thing with Leo - he's not really a bully OR a jerk, I never thought. He's just annoying. And that's why I love him so much - I loved seeing how he could annoy other people. Somehow, that just made it not annoying anymore for me. I've had irl friends the same way - they drive other people up the wall but I think they're just fun to be around As for not telling everyone he was alive (it's been a while since I read ToA and I've actively tried to forget about it as much as possible) I'm not really sure what else he was supposed to do? Like he couldn't tell them before in case it didn't work. He was already halfway to Ogygea by the time he woke up and after getting Calypso didn't he come straight back? It was just the most time efficient way to do things

I think he just has a lot of self loathing that manifests into mean spirited jokes at others' expense sometimes. I don't think he does it on purpose, he's just bad with people. I do like how he tried to make it up to Frank in the later books, I just wish Rick spent more time fleshing out his relationships with the others. Leo's friendship with Piper is top tier though.

My unpopular opinions: Magnus chase was one of the biggest let downs in the Riordanverse. The whole thing was supposed to be building up to this huge Ragnarok apocalypse final battle. I was expecting something as big as the Battle of Manhattan. But then the giant climax of the entire series was a lame rap battle (which roasts that weren’t even clever). I truly have never been more disappointed. It was the definition of anticlimactic

I never understood the seeming OBSESSION the rest of the fandom has about Nico. In PJO, I preferred Thalia, Rachel and Paul as side characters. Out of the 9 HoO protags, the only ones who I didn't like more were Piper, Jason and Frank and after TBM, Jason has overtaken him. I still love him, I love all of them, but I never got how CRAZY the rest of the fandom seems to be about him. The fact that large portion of the fandom also seems to like to villainize Percy (my personal favourite) to make Nico look more like a woobie has probably only worsened my feelings.

this is extremely late but here's my hot take or semi - hot take ( whatever you consider it ) I think we should have seen more of Thalia and Jason's relationship as siblings. I know that them being siblings came out of nowhere, but since they are siblings I would have loved to see them have slight conversations as older sister and brother. Like Thalia sending iris messages to Jason asking about him or something I just feel like that would be wholesome even if it's not like Thalias character. I haven't read TOA yet IK I SPOIL SM FOR MYSELF but besides The lost hero we see no Thalia and Jason. Maybe there is in BOO since I also haven't read that yet.

No I completely disagree with Leo being the most annoying, he felt alone and like a 7th wheel (literally). Ofc he’s gonna be a bit loud cause it’s almost an attention thing which I think is a good character story! I am only 16 and can say 100% that if there was a generational change, I was not part of it lolll I think it’s just the feminist thing going on recently, that if he flirts with people it’s disrespectful but as a girl I would still find him funny and I think he’s my 2nd if not 1st fav in the 7 But ig this is just my opinion like that hot take was there’s 🤷‍♀️

I agree. As someone who’s best friends started dating, and was the perpetual 3rd wheel for a while, it can be really hard. You can feel angry, jealous, abandoned, and even impulsively want to get with someone bc you think you need to date someone. Leo was in a hard situation and I don’t think he deserves all the hate he gets.

Well and my thing with it is (not counting ToA beause those sucked and I tried to erase them from my memory as much as possible) Leo "flirts" with guys just as much as he does with girls. I never really saw it as flirting, and I don't think he does either. He's always tryna annoy people and make friends at the same time and this is how he does it. If it annoys people, he finds it funny and that's a win. If they can put up with it, it's part of his vetting process to find friends that he likes and that's a win

Controversial opinion(s): My favorite PJO characters are Luke, Jason, and Frank...I didn't like the Sun and the Star...More people should read the Kane Chronicles...the Tyrant's Tomb is my favorite TOA book...I think that fans shouldn't bash on the movie's actors because it's not their fault (especially if the fans haven't even watched the movies)...Rachel is an amazing character. Just because you ship Percabeth (which I do with all my heart) doesn't mean that Rachel needs to be hated on or shipped with Octavian...Have a great day/night.

Tyrant's tomb had that amazhang moment when Lester implies to be in a relationship w Reyna. It's also the only ToA book I own so ima find reasons to like it lol.

I don't know if this is a necessarily controversial opinion, but I think Heroes of Olympus should have been aimed at a slightly older audience/been YA. Not for the reasons you might think, but more for the overall flow and style of the books. They were aimed at such a young audience and because of that they're so intensely action packed with little room to let the characters breathe. I think if there were a little less fighting sequences and more of the character one on one actions and friendships it would have improved so much, and could have helped resolve some of the issues people have with Jason Piper and Frank's characters or lack thereof. I've been rereading them lately and surprised by how much of their interactions happen off-page. For example Piper knows everything that happens in Tartarus, but there's no scene where she and Annabeth discuss anything like that outside of a battle. Idk, maybe that would have strayed too far away from the ogs but just my thoughts.

I definitely agree that we needed more scenes of the characters interacting. One of the most frustrating examples is when Hazel trained Piper to fight "off screen," that's something I really would have liked to see. I think Piper also calls Hazel her best friend (along with Annabeth) at one point and like okay we were told that they spent a lot of time together but we never saw any of it so it was like I didn't really buy it. There was a scene where Hazel got upset and Piper followed her to comfort her and I thought the next chapter was gonna be that scene but we just stayed with the boys instead. I know I focused a lot on Piper and Hazel but this is applies to the others as well. Though, I do feel like more effort was put in the male friendships than the female ones.

My hot take is that I love percy as a character, but I hate how overpowered he is. It’s a huge flaw in the series. Rick just kept giving him more and more powers, which I wouldn’t mind if he was underdeveloped/underpowered, but he’s the exact opposite. I wish he had taken some time to flesh out other characters (maybe a minor god kid?) instead of just making percy more powerful than he needed to be.

It's also so strange that Percy's "flaw" is that he is too good of a person basically, and that he is so selfless he would do anything to save the people he cares about. Everyone else actually is given a flaw but Percy's isn't really a bad thing

@@All-ze9cl But it is though Percy would literally sacrifice the world to save Annabeth. Do you realize how bad news that is for the world? Like it's a flaw for Thalia to destroy Olympus for something that she wants but not for Percy to let the entire world burn for something he wants? He's written powerfully enough and resourceful enough that he always manages to save both, but he would absolutely let the world burn if it meant Annabeth was safe. And though I AGREE with him - I'm the same way - it's certainly a flaw for a hero to have. The entire world is in his hands, multiple times. Yeah, it's a flaw

Controversial opinions: I dont like Jason. I dont hate him, but I always thought he was sort of a bland character. However, I SOBBED when i read his death scene. (not sure how controversial this is but...) I find Lukes story to be very sad. He did some bad things, ofc, but like you mentioned he had a bunch of stuff happen in his childhood. I dont find leo attractive. I know a lot of people will hate me for this but i just dont. And I dont like his character terribly. I get the hype for him, but I dont see it myself lol. also I love Magnus Chase lol

Ok i mean absolutely no hate towards caleo shippers but I really didn’t like their storyline. When it first became cannon in hoh I didn’t really like it but then in ToA it just didn’t work for me. We really could see that their relationship was not going that well and they had a lot of issues between them and instead of talking this over and taking some time if not to say break up they just decide to move in together. Idk but I feel like it was rlly rushed and I would have liked it a lot better if they had been friends at first . And this is completely unrelated but I liked Magnus chase a lot more than heroes of Olympus. I live the characters, and I also love fierrochase so much I love Alex and that ship is just gold Love ur videos 🤗🤗 ( gods this comment turned out so long 😅)

1) Frank was a good character but super unforgettable there was no actual focus on his mental development or development in his relationships with the others which is actually one of the things that made leo so relevant like franks character only had physical development not in other areas like almost no character development and he just needed a bit more personality bc he was kind of bland 2)Piper was kind of a pick me like he whole thing was i cant look pretty its too basic and common 3) Jason was a good character but he was too boring one of the only reasons he's popular is bc hes rhe son of zeus and also bc everyone was annoyed at him the whole series bc his chapters were plain boring and unlike fran who still had some development Jason didn't like nthing nada 4) Caleo was toxic asf like leo it like he didn't like her but liked the idea of being in a relationship with a pretty girl bc he thinks itll prove his worth and calypso is js rude to him and always fighting with him 5) Ppl would have liked all the characters introduced in Hoo if theyd had more screen time and development and better or less boring personalities leo is the only character from the new 5 that everyone loves and its not even bc he got a lot of screen time bc he didn't he was just a more funny consistent and relatable character and obviously not every character can be funny but doesn't mean they have to be boring 7) even reyne is more relevant in the fandom than hazel jason pioer and frank and its bc her character has personality like a good mix of fierce badass sass and well as trauma 8) Jason's death was unnecessary and so was him and Piper's breakup there was so much room for their relationship to grow and piper herself admitted to actually loving jason so yes their relationship could've grown into something ppl really liked Overall, most characters like jason hazel frank and piper were js corgettable bc no matter how powerful hazel is, shes forgettable bc rick focused too much on her past instea of giving her a solid personality so the main problem is character development and the characters id the pjo series' are more loved not even bc if screen time its js that thay have good charscter development and chemistry and good enjoyable personalities like even if a character wasn't funny they weren't boring they were enjoyable characters but the same cannot be said about hoo characters but i still love them all except for piper

I somehow went through the kind of unimpressive books 2 and 3, but my favorite one to this date is THE TYRANTS TOMB. I have an observation, but it’s an interesting one… Children of Hecate are literally plot devices. Any time they are mentioned in Heros of Olympus, it’s due to because Rick needed some plot reason through magic, and just say “oh btw children of Hecate” and bada bing bada boom. i have a few things i wanna point out: 1)why do people hate calypso?!?!?! like she stayed with the most horrible curse in the world for 3000 years, and we expect her to be fine and dandy after it?? little reminder that most of the seven had some petty af moments. let ma gurl catch a break she's allowed to be bitter. 2) NORMALIZE PERCY AND NICO'S FRIENDSHIP PLES 3) imma be honest, i dont really like the sun and the star. the solangelo shippers might come for me cuz of this, but hear me out. i love solangelo, but the book just felt so, idk, far away when it comes to narration?? like the entire pjo franchise (all 15 books + additional) is written in such a way that even the serious scenes have a bit of lightness to them. the sun and the star was straight up a sad book to me. i mean i know it refers to serious topics like homophobia and coming to terms with your identity in general, but i truly felt that the amount of development both characters had in one book, seemed super unnatural to me. idk how to explain it lol, i just didnt like it.

Unpopular opinion: tsats was bad like it completely ruined nicos character all the build up his whole personality everything i get thst fans like to think of him as some puppy dog type of character now that hes with will but lets be honest thats js unrealistic and no matter how unrealistic the whole pjo universe is but how Nico's character was written in this book was js bad like they actually turned him into some happy ass puppy dog also it was supposed to be them in Tartarus but more than half the book is outside of Tartarus snd a bunch of if emotional dilemma ass shit and once they did get there it was so underwhelming like all the excitement i had wa not worth it and they got out too easy it would have been better as a duology like more time to explore everything and whatnot also i fedl like rick shouldn't have collaborated bc like in ToA he wrote nico and will, a gay couple, just fine but it was made too weird in tsats like too forced too obsessive and too focused on the fact that theyre a gay couple and the way that somehow so many of the known side characters such as malcolm and jake were gay it was just unrealistic weird and kind of forced like wow nco is gay now everyone is gay same with the piper and jason thing js bc they broke up doesn't mean piper had to be into girls their relationship had potential i js dont see why every character has to be made gay i get the representation and honestly no problem just as long as it doesn't affect the main story which in this case really did

-I do agree with that opinion about luke is not a hero, he’s not. Percy is the hero he leads the titans war and just because luke finally decided to killed himself he’s a hero, he’s a bad guy. He’s been bad since the beginning, he hates his father so much all demigod hates their god parent but luke went too far and then scared at the end and realized that kronos was never better than the gods. He’s a coward. -And well, its not that I don’t like annabeth, but i do think that i like rachel better because annabeth was so into luke since the beginning and she got the tendency to be jealous at percy and rachel but when percy is jealous about luke she just doesn’t care. And then realized in the end that she never was inlove with luke which is kinda weird. I guess the most unpopular opinion I have is that Leo is overated. Like I understand he was important for the battle against gaea, but I feel that is the reason he should be considered a good character, instead of just thinking he is funny (something that I don't understand because I don't but it's okay) I think he should have more development and maybe just more moments as a good friend and part of the seven, to make him a deeper character, instead of just making him do jokes or be the one that doesn't take things seriously (I think this is what I personaly dislike, because I don't feel the balance between being funny and being serious at important times) I think Percy sort of has this problem but we had 10 books where he appeared and developed himself as a funny and respected character. Edit: I think that The lost hero is the worst of HoO. Im not saying it's bad but I think It had a rushed introduction to the new characters such as Jason, Leo and Piper. It was worse thinking that I personaly read 11 times PJO before HoO so the change between the style of narration and the main characters hurted my brain. Another edit: The first time I read HoO I didn't like Mark of Athena. Realy idk why because now it is my favourite book after House of Hades.

I think Luke is an interesting character, but he should not be sympathized with. Choosing to go with the guy who is clearly trying to destroy humanity just because you are frustrated with the people who are perfectly fine with letting everyone live is so dumb to me. The gods are not good people, but I'd much rather them be in charge instead of Kronos who is actively trying to kill everyone. How can Luke just let that happen? I don't blame him for having anger towards the gods, but that's so messed up to believe that anyone who won't join you deserves to die. How do people sympathize with that?

Really controversial, but don't attack me personally. The whole world building is very Eurocentric and imperialistic. I know Rick really want to be progressive and he does put in a lot of diversity. I appreciate him for that and I do really like Percy Jackson(or I won't consume as much content), but the world building is based on greek mythology, which isn't famous for being exclusive. Maybe you will say "but Rick modifies the mythology elements to be more child friendly!", but think about this, has anyone ever wondered why monsters appeared in the first place? Sure they were children of Tartarus in the book, but those monsters in their original forms in Greek mythology were dehumanization of the non-greeks, like Scythian dracaenae and Thracian giantes. Yeah...the books depicted them as pure evil and demigods have legitimate reasons to kick their ass, but it still feels creepy that ethnical minorities in ancient world were demonized to that point and authors are still trying to punch them even two thousand years later. I think it will be so much better that Rick just points out how these monsters were "created" by the "civilized greek people", or maybe tells tales of how fellow human beings became monsters. The whole theme will be so much deeper if this is added up. Sometimes i just feel, yeah, the cast is really diverse, but they are a diverse set of warriors defending patriarchy, capitalism, and American exceptionalism. I know this is a serious accusation and I don't want to cancel Rick Riordan at all. Just some thought, because sometimes it gets really uncomfortable because I am neither American nor recognized "western culture" as my cultural background.

I love pjo I love percy Jackson but in the whole series) like all 3 books series.) He doesn't cry Like i remember in the first book after he got his mom back he said his eyes got misty. I'll be honest, I was not happy when the actress for clarisse got casted Clarisse was always a comfort character for me as a chubby girl, so seeing this big and 'ugly' (described by percy) girl get a romantic plotline and have a plotline in general made me really happy. But when I saw this beautiful, skinny actress playing clarisse I got sad because I felt like a representation was being tooken away. I still love Dior though, just not happy with the casting!!

I really, REALLY hate Trials of Apollo. Its such a unnecessary series. They butchered Piper’s character, and honestly I liked jiper a lot. The reason for their breakup was very unjustified.
