Here's what's fascinating about Toy Story 2: After doing some detective work, "Woody's Roundup" appears to have been inspired by two real western TV shows. Howdy Doody (a western cowboy puppet), and Roy Rogers. One of the cast members on the latter show looks almost EXACTLY like Prospector, and Rogers' wife Dale Evans may have also been a source of inspiration for Jessie (she was also a cowgirl and also assisted Roy often). The original Roy Rogers show ironically appears to have ended around 1957, the same year "Woody's Roundup" was supposedly canceled. It's VERY interesting! My Dad IIRC even said he has some memories of watching that show a bit when he was young.

A few months ago I almost lost a 30 minute short film I've been working on for the past 8 months only by myself, I already had it finished but was still tweaking some details when my whole computer just crashed, I tried to recover the data in the hard drive but it was toasted, imagine all that time editing it, scoring it, convincing actors and people to act on it, filming on harsh places with tight schedules only to lost it all in seconds, it was the worst moment of my life, not to be dramatic but honestly I just wanted to die, the thing is after a few days of deep depression, I remembered I rendered an early cut of the film to send it to my brother on Dropbox, and when I checked there it was, for some reason I didn’t even reacted that much, but I'm still glad I got to recover it. Fun fact: While Pixar successfully saved the movie from being deleted, what most people don't know was that this was for the original direct to video version of Toy Story 2. The original version had a smaller budget with a talking Bullseye, and Jesse as an evil talking cactus and many other differences. This was before John Lasseter got involved as he was still working on A Bug's Life. When he got to see the original footage, he was very upset and felt the story was too predictable and wasn't close to having funny humor and decided to get involved to save the movie. And so after 2 years of animation and almost deleting the entire thing, the footage ended up being deleted anyway in favor of the final film. Disney still wanted to keep the movie's release date of 1999 but Pixar rewrote the script on a weekend and had to re-animate the entire movie for 9 MONTHS! Unlike most Pixar movies which take 3 to 4 years to animate. And yet somehow, after rushing everything with the script and animation, it ended up becoming a sequel that's better than the original by many.

What do you need to study for being an animator
@Lisspeed6 жыл бұрын
@@magmafox16 As someone who's studying Game Art herself (not animation in particular but it is a part of the study and the two are very closely tied) I can give a bit of an answer. An animation or any art study usually lasts between 3-4 years but can be longer or shorter depending on what college you pick. Usually they give you a intake assignment which is basically where they test your art skills. Different studies require different intakes even for animation. So I can't give a clear insight on it. They usually expect you to be enthusiastic, motivated, be creative, inspired and have at least basic art skills (some want you to be pretty good as well but some studies are also willing to start from square one). After you handed in your assignment you usually have to wait for a bit and then they will call or mail you depending on if you've been approved or not for an intake conversation or not. Something I would recommend is looking up tutorials and KZbin videos on the better where people explain and discuss it. Good luck! :)
@magmafox166 жыл бұрын
@@Lisspeed Thanks for the answer
@bonk18186 жыл бұрын
Magma Fox I really liked playmo98’s response, they have some good insight and they are completely right. If you want to start learning immediately look up the basics on yt many people have great tutorials on programs (some of which are free like krita) but I’d also make sure to look into watching the basics, learn the principles of animation (even just hearing and watching them being applied really helps how you think and go about making movements). And practice of course! Start off with something simple like a ball bounce so you learn and understand and get a feel for how it works then move on to something like a pillow or flour sack (watch any animation basics video and these will probably be mentioned) a big mistake that I made was trying to make full blown character animations to start, diving straight into the deep end. To no surprise the results when I did it this way were very bad. Remember take your time and learn the material, you truly will improve over time, slowly but surely! Good KZbin animation recommendations TennelleFlowers has a good series where she makes a video covering each principal of animation and creates a project and shows/discusses how and where that principles is being used in the creation of the final project TennelleFlowers’ channel: kzbin.info HowardWimshurs: He has a LOT of super helpful videos detailing a multitude of different topics within the realm on 2D animation HowardWimshurst’s channel: kzbin.info

This is exactly why when I worked at Industrial Light & Magic we pounded it into everyone's brain to save often and save iterations. You never know when something will go wrong and you end up losing an effects shot that it took you weeks or months to complete. We had some scary times during the rolling power blackouts from the California energy crisis of 2000 and 2001. Somehow some way somebody pulled some strings with Pacific Gas & Electric (it may have even been George himself for all I know) to get us a heads up when the rolling blackouts were about to happen. It was only a few minutes of lead time, but the warning would go out company wide over the PA system for everyone to quickly save what they were doing and to shut off our computers. I can also remember a nasty email virus that hit all the Unix, Linux, and PC workstations one year. Lots of systems were damaged and lots of files were lost. Only the few of us working on Macs (myself included) were unaffected. And going back even earlier to the late 1990s when I was at LucasArts, there were quite a few files & assets from the Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II game that accidentally got wiped from the servers. Fortunately, very much like what happened with Toy Story 2, I had been working on effects for the cutscenes from home because my wife had just given birth to our first child. I had back-ups of everything on Jaz drives (anybody remember that format?) and was able to restore it all to the company server. Excellent video! I really enjoyed this.

Never had a jazz drive but I remember them. I can still remember when IOMEGA zip disks were cheap enough I used them to install various applications onto like an extension of my system drive. So for example, my Corel Draw installation along with all my fonts and supplemental graphics programs resided on one zip disk, while a bigger games would be installed to their own disks. This was only feasible because I had the SCSI zip drive which was a lot faster than the parallel port zip drive. But it worked to save me a lot of space on my very expensive SCSI hard drive. My 80 meg SCSI Seagate drive (my first hard drive) was still in use 10 years later in one of my fathers PC XT clones.

@@AMileFromTheMoon The cloud is essentially just using someone else's storage instead of your own, there still has to be a large storage server somewhere, which is still vunerable to human error and things like flood, fire etc. The main difference seems to me to be that if you are using third party storage, and the server gets accidentally wiped. you can sue the third party for losses, but if you were using your own server and the same thing happens you have no such comeback.

When I edited our school project film, my video editor decided to screw with me and crashed, then when I booted it up every single clip I used was corrupted, entire thing gone. I was almost done too, I was so angry mad and scared that I tried to system restore my laptop to get the files back, then the laptop turned off because it ran out of power (entirely my fault) then when I booted up the IOS got shambled and my laptop wont work anymore, we brought it at the computer shop said they'll fix it a day or two, but my deadline was a day and I had to make the video again by scratch, I panicked brought my mom to school to chat with my teacher, which she told me she will give me 2 days to finish it. When the laptop got fixed I went home and started doing my school project again, I woke up until 3 AM just to finish it, and so I did. Passed the movie said my teacher it was good, pulled up the middle finger to my video editor and to my laptop, then spent the day relaxing, also it was an exam week too so I had to study and review notes while doing the video. God I hate that week.

Actually Pixar GAVE to her that computer and all to work as mom at home. The video context is little bit not correct in details. Plus she had Silicon Graphics workstation AND NOT A MAC. Plus it was Jacob who did remember this mom had copy and not her so i dont get animation... Plus the car they recovered files was a Volvo.. Yay. Extra safety.
