You know, I'm old enough to have been there when Allure magazine first premiered, and up until recently I had retained the first year of the publication. When they first went to print, they were not normal sized magazines but these huge look books full of great photography and content but very little advertising. Back then, every recommendation was spot on and every month featured the favorites of at least one prominent makeup artist. Now.... I just imagine some dear old lady named Ethel clinging to her role in the company, given a handful of "best of" categories to select products for, and completely obvlious of the fact that makeup can be purchased somewhere other than the department store.

FYI: I heard from a few MUAs on KZbin that Allure awards are only given to products that makeup companies Pay to Submit to Allure to be considered for an award. I have not looked into it, but It makes sense. That would explain why the same products and their brands win year after year.

I think one of the reasons the names of some products have such long, word-salad names is that they are named in a way that appeals to search engines rather than human being. You see this on the Amazon dropship stuff all the time. They just cram every search term they want to hit into the name.

That Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer was so sticky! I got a sample of it a few years ago. I had to take my cat to the vet on a Saturday, so I put the tinted moisturizer on and some lip balm, since I didn’t feel like bothering with makeup but wanted the extra SPF. By the time my cat’s appointment was over, I think there may have been more cat fur on my face than on my cat.

Went on a first date with a guy who complimented me on “the sparkles on my face” AKA Rare Beauty highlighter. haha loved your description of the OG Fenty foundation. that was probably my most hated makeup product I’ve ever purchased. The second time I used it, I dropped it and it shattered on my bathroom tile. And instead of thinking shoot, there goes money down the drain or omg I have to pick up shards and clean up spackle from my tiles, all I could focus on was ‘oh thank gods I don’t ever have to put that on my face ever again’. And I was a matte girly through and through back then, so idk who that formula was for.
