Global leak investigations and Putin’s invasion of Ukraine have revealed the inner workings of a secret financial system. If we don’t act on what we know, something far worse than secrecy will befall us.
Jake Bernstein is an author, a playwright and a two-time Pulitzer Prize winner for investigative reporting. He earned his first Pulitzer Prize in 2011 for National Reporting for his coverage of the 2008 financial crisis. He was also the senior reporter on the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) team, which broke the Panama Papers story. In 2017, the same project won the Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting. Bernstein’s latest book, The Laundromat, previously published as Secrecy World, was turned into a Netflix film directed by Steven Soderbergh starring Meryl Streep, Gary Oldman, Antonio Banderas, and Jeffrey Wright. Bernstein has been the editor of The Texas Observer and is currently the co-author of Vice: Dick Cheney and the Hijacking of the American Presidency. He has written for The New York Times, The Washington Post, Bloomberg, The Guardian, ProPublica, and Vice and has appeared on the BBC, NBC, CNN, PBS, and NPR. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

Anarcho-capitalism could fix all these problems together. If there is no taxes to pay, there is no evasion. If drugs were legal, there will be no mafia or cartels since people could buy them at the shops. No need to give money to police for corruption. Etc.

@@Pastamistic I am saying that the block chain technology is improving day by day, so it is not perfect yet, and what you mean is the same with fiat money or the goods with which we exchange. we must think outside the box, to give power to ordinary people and not to the secret society of banks and governments, I think that way we could survive, give all the following beings the opportunity of a healthy mother earth and one more goal greater than the accumulation of capital in which dark policies have locked up global society, perhaps we don't need intermediaries to be better off, just a route of agreements that stops putting people and the environment in the dark, today we can do better and global common agreement that improves our relations with the whole. that's why I prefer ADA or Shiba than Doge Coin jajaja

@@JhoYhu3 I know all about crypto and I had investments in crypto which I made money on. It's an extremely unstable financial system and it always will be by the nature of it. It doesn't solve anything that proper legislation can't fix with our current fractional reserve system with a central bank. It's also terrible for mother earth because of the insane amount of energy required to mine crypto and keep the network running and secure.

I would say start by repealing Citizens United but the megarich have infiltrated the Supreme Court (which was never a democratic institution to begin with) so I guess we go with the tried and true angry mob and round up the billionaires and dispose of them and then design an economy that doesn't reward and incentivize thievery and exploitation.
