Although this video is of great importance, I think there is one statement you made that is problematic from my understanding. You say at 8:37 that "Before we go any further, we should understand what the Vedic texts are. Not all traditions in Hinduism them as the highest authority." With all due respect, this is not correct. Vedas are part of Shruti and all traditions of Hinduism consider Shruti as of highest authority. However, I completely understand that your intention in making this statement is very noble and in line with what Hinduism teaches. The context is to be understood. Yes, Vedas have a large part that deals with the different Vedic gods (or demigods) like Indra, Surya etc. and rituals for pleasing them and getting material benefits from them. Why this is so is clearly explained by Lord Krishna in Bhagavad Gita (Gita is also Shruti and is considered of highest authority and is sometimes called Gitopanishad) in Chapter 2 verses 42 and 43. One should understand that most people in the world are seekers of material benefits and not seekers of divine truth of God. Since Vedas are meant for entire humanity, a large part of Vedas deals with how to satisfy materialistic desires reflecting the fact that a large part of humanity is only interested in material benefits. In true Vedic culture, people knew the essence of these rituals performed for demigods. I can give a couple of examples. The first example is that those who wish to eat animal meat were asked to sacrifice an animal to the demigods by beheading the animal in front of the demigod deity or murti. Before beheading they need to whisper in animal's ear that because I am killing you in this life you can take a birth as human in next life and I can take birth as an animal in next life and you can kill me too. In fact, meat is called "Mamsa" in Vedic sanskrit which translates as mam-saha or me too meaning you can kill me too in the next life. This ritual is meant to instill fear in the performer of sacrifice that the more you kill animals the more consequences you face due to karma. Another example is that of performance of yajna or fire sacrifice to obtain rains. Fire sacrifice is an excruciatingly complex and difficult procedure that requires a lot of collective effort from many people. This symbolizes that rains or water is a gift we should not exploit by wasting and we should be economical and respectful of natural resources like water. So, if you see these rituals teach to the large part of humanity who seek materialistic desires that we have to respectful to other living beings and respectful to nature and natural resources while pursuing material desires. This is a far superior philosophy and a far greater message than what modern philosophy of Darwin that says "survival of the fittest is the essence of nature" and gives credence to "might is right" philosophy and justifies the actions of people in power who continuously exploit nature and other living beings. However, today that true Vedic culture, where essence of these rituals is known, is lost and it is especially recommended in many Hindu traditions that we do not follow these rituals unless we vow to bring back the true Vedic culture. So, you are right in the fact that many Hindu traditions do consider this large part of Vedas as unimportant or irrelevant to the current times. But phrasing it as "Not all traditions in Hinduism consider them (Vedic texts) as the highest authority" is an incorrect and imperfect way of doing it. Please do not consider this comment as rabble rousing. Your video is so perfect that this tiny imperfection comes out as off-putting. I have immense appreciation and heart-felt respect to the content of this video and to your intentions and your work. Please keep continuing your noble work. All power to you. Jai Sree Krishna.

I’m Protestant and I don’t expect miracles, especially working on the Middle East. I don’t like to speak about religion but when someone asked me about my beliefs, I’ve received a lot of bad experience (I don’t know why they like to ask me about sensitive stuff that they hate). Constantly these questions are coming from Catholics and Muslims (some of them also have attacked me). I’m not Portuguese or Spanish and I’m against invaders or any other kind of system imposed by force. Glad to know that these atrocities made by Portugal in India came out to light. We faced same issue against the native people who fought against the Spanish invaders, but finally we got our independence in 1823. But like you wrote: better to die on your feet than live on your knees. Sometimes I have to repeat that to myself because we are facing (along with the Indians from Gujarat or Kerala) a lot of issues working in the Middle East (arrogance, racism and injustice). During Ramadan we are hiding to drink tea (black tea with milk) in order to respect the Muslims fasting. I don’t expect respect from Middle eastern people with Hindus but when happens in front of me, I don’t like to witness it and I’m forced to interfere. I’m sorry if Christianity was spread out with violence in India.

No one can stop him to take form or come to earth. If he is omnipotent then he should reside in an idol too ,right. Advaita may sound egoist or disrespecting god but god doesn't care about ur way of worshipping or rules you impose on him. He remains the same. The world originate from him and will collapse inside him when destroyed. Its only god which expands to create the universe. It is the vedic philosophy. Crores of verses and high level of sanskrit which need extreme research and understanding which is not understood by narrow vision or preconceived notion. This is the first time I’ve watched a refutation of Dr. Naik concerning Hinduism. As a Christian myself, I’m quite familiar with how this guy, much like his predecessor, Ahmed Deedat, cherry picks verses from the Bible, distorting its message to make Christians think that in order to follow what the Bible teaches, they must convert to Islam. Unfortunately, he is actually doing exactly what the Quran and Hadiths command, practicing al-Taqiyya, the principle of using deception to accomplish his duty of helping the ideology of Islam take over the world. It is a false and weak doctrine to require lies in order to expand, and it is a truly wicked belief system to push for the subjugation of unbelievers, doubtless a deception from the mind of the Devil, especially to those who believe it.

In response to "na tasya prathima asti" verse, here is a response which i choked out. the verse gives an objective truth-that Brahman has no physical form. but the twist comes in the fact that hinduism allows metaphorisms, or symbolisms to represent an absract concept for the mind to fix on to meditate. the forms in hinduism are taken as metaphors, and not as literal reflections of the Supreme. the verses before Yajur Veda 32:3(which he quoted) says that "He is agni,he is sun,he is the waters, he is bright,etc..." and thus relating manifestations to "Him" which is stated later that it has no form. This is because, one) hinduism believed that the universe is a projection of God, as the Upanishads says,that the universe comes from God and returns to Him, as spider web comes from spider and then returns back to it.thus,all manifestations u see around are manifestations of God's energies, or, "lower nature/energy" as Bhagavad Gita states.This is not saying that everything is blindly "god".all that exist is pervaded, or encompassed by an infinite Being)(God) and all that exists are infinitestimally small,elementary parts of God's infinite energy manifested as all we see around. This is the real philosophy of hinduism. two) the verse also means that God has ultimately no form, but His aspects/attributes can be represented, or symbolised as forms. The second explanation woule be more apt for justifying form worship, since it directly talks about symbolisisng the spiritual aspects of God. In this, most crucial case, hindus do not blindly worship the form as a physical being, but reflect upon what it symbolised and meditates upon the meaning.The form, is a visual aid for meditation.This is no sin in hinduism. any one of these explanations would bridge the gap of the immediate meaning of this cherry picked verse, and the "form worship" aspect of hinduism. Amazing video! A Muslim friend of mine (with the best intentions) showed me Dr. Naik and his take on Hindu scriptures. Having read Hindu scriptures, I knew of course that Naik is interpreting the scriptures in his own ways. It is in his full right to interpret sacred texts with an Islamic viewpoint, but, as you so nicely point out, it does crash with the core of Hindu ideas as they have been presented and understood for centuries. I will also thank you for staying factual and respectful. It's a shame that certain religious leaders and admired people do manipulate the masses, but they are thankfully not in the majority. Having several Muslim friends, our religions can peacefully coexist :) We do not agree on everything, but the world's religions all have one important thing in common: Love and compassion for other beings. Hatred, anger and prejudice are qualities that we all consider to be negative, and that we all wish to avoid. Therefore, thanks for being so tolerant. Islam has many beautiful teachings, and worshiping only one God without an image is of course a valid practice for those that get closer to God that way. We may be Muslims, Hindus or Atheists, but we are first and foremost fellow human beings.

Hi Dharma Speak, Thank you for producing such high quality videos. Your videos are simple,to the point,informative and addresses issues that Hindus are struggling with. I remember 10 years back watching Zakir naiks videos on the similarities between Hinduism and Islam, I was amazed by him. I now realise it didn't take me any closer to Hinduism to understand its true perspective it was more of an attempt of dawah and showing one view being way more superior than the other view. I was so convinced back then that Hinduism had nothing to offer and that it was a redundant faith. I reluctantly entered temples because of dieties (idol worship) and was even somewhat ashmed of being identified as a hindu (Due to Abrahamic views). However I had a teacher who was a Hare Krishna devotee and by observing his character, the pure love of god he had and how he applied himself to the material world I always knew there was something was more to this tradition than what meets the eye as well as other factors. I feel people like Zakir naik and similar organisations are not interested in community cohesion and simply act as ambassadors of peace their real agenda is simply to prove their view as being superior to any other view. I simply hope anyone interested in learning about Hinduism goes through channels like Dharma Speaks who give the right perspective of this tradition and not through missionaries who have their own agendas. Once again thank you for your videos i do really appreciate it really helps with understanding this tradition. I can only imagine the amount of effort and time it takes to produce such videos for which I am greatful.

The incident that u mentioned of burning alive in car was happened in some part of south India ( a priest and his son was burned alive in a car-- google some old newspaper). News paper were flooded in those days with that news. It was heard that their missionary were converting poor people from hin.. to chris.. People ( chris..) sometimes come with religious books and first they start like this -- " you see there is so much pain going in this world and bl bla u can read these free books and if somebody gets interested then comes the money part, charity and finally conversion" Some yrs ago I myself face that situation-- though I polietly took their booklet and said I will think about it ( not taking interest ). As a Christian, I can understand the Hindu concept. Even though we do not say that all of creation is God, we believe all of creation came from the voice of God, and the voice of God is from God and therefore His voice is God as the voice cannot be separate from God. And because all of creation was created by the voice of God (and nothing was made without Him, the seen and the unseen), all will stand until God says for it to end. And yes, God is transcendent from creation, but also capable of entering His creation whenever He wants. So, we almost have the same philosophy.

Even though I am christian and don't agree with hindu teachings, I can fully support this video. Zakir picks very specific verses, twists them and reinterprets in islamic favor. He is doing same with Bible and literally any other scripture. Us being apart of different religions doesn't mean we should mispresent each others beliefs. If you are sure in your truth, you have nothing to hide. Present everything as it should be and let person decide, instead of teaching him absolute opposite of core beliefs.
