Enjoyed the film back in the early 90’s. A few years later I’m training in the Filipino Martial Arts, a weapon based Martial Arts. I came across the movie again in the early Y2K’s & I was told Cass Magda a certified student under Guru Dan Inosanto was the technical Knife advisor & Fight choreographer.

Randall 14 is excellent, but I'll take the Fairbairn-Sykes, thanks.

Love that this features the Randall 18. It's the blade that inspired Rambo's knife in First Blood. It's a dream knife for me.

This was the first movie directed by Walter Salles (director of Oscar nominated "Central Station"). I´ve watched it in the theaters back in the 90´s and I liked it a lot, but I get the feeling this film was rejected by Salles after he became known for Central Station, maybe because it was made in English, aimed at internacional audiences. Brazilian cinema was facing a hard time in the early 90´s. Later films like Central Station and City of God created a new brazilian audience that had not seen its country on the big screens for a long time.

heres some info: "Loosely based on "A Grande Arte", by Brazilian Rubem Fonseca. Its one of the first works of Walter Salles Jr and assembles a mixed cast with both Brazilian and international stars. The movie was marketed in the US with two titles: "High Art" and "Exposure". The film explores the mysterious and hiding world of the "Persevs" (Cut-and-Thrust) fighters and some famous blacksmiths (from wikipedia)

Wikipedia is not accurate on the definition about PerSev's. Peter Coyote explains its meaning in this very film: Perforate and Sever. This said, with all due respect.

What was the name of the original author of the book? I read it in English translation and spoke to a guy about "PerSev" (the knife art mentioned in the book and movie)

From left to right: Randall Model 2 Applegate-Fairbairn (Probably made by Al-Mar knives) Randall Model 18 Joe Kious Subhilt Fighter (Dream knife of mine, probably not something i'll ever be able to own) Randall Model 14 And I have absolutely no idea what the knife on the far right is.
