I keep seeing people say that if they see tech's wearing masks or gloves that it's a warning sign and they leave. Before you do that PLEASE READ THIS! Facemasks can actually be a very good thing. It means the techs care about their lungs. They're around chemicals all day and it keeps them from breathing in all the dust from the acrylic and people's finger and toenails. Some techs wear gloves because they have sensitive hands. Some can't handle constant acetone (especially because they use 100% pure) and some of them have hands that will crack, hurt and bleed if they constantly get wet. You should always try to ask why they're wearing gloves and not just assume anything.

Hey! I love your videos. Very informative. And yes the gloves thing is the choice of the technician. I guess the reason so many people are so concerned is because in school we are taught (although varying degrees etc) that it's recommended that you wear them, but not always enforced. From the Milady Nail Tech book, 7th edition: "Gloves are PPE, worn to protect the technician from exposure from microbes ... [skip ahead] Universal Precautions (UP) include guidelines in the use of gloves, masks, and eyewear WHEN CONTACT with blood or body secretions containing blood or blood elements is a possibility. The Universal Standards within OSHA reads: "UP shall be observed to prevent occupational exposure to blood or other potentially infectious materials. Occupational Exposure includes any reasonably anticipated skin, eye, mucous membrane, or potential contact with blood or other potentially infectious materials that may result from the performance of an employees duties." It does not say "only wear gloves when there is exposure to a large amount of blood" [skip ahead] In 1996, the CDC expanded the concept of UP and changed the term to Standard Precautions... ... Standard Precautions changed the concepts of UP from use only by medical personnel to include their use by, and protection of, workers in general. Nail technicians are now covered by OSHA and must follow Standard Precautions. These Precautions mean gloves must be worn during services" But we are not required to use gloves in school... and if there is blood present for any reason, we must stop the service completely and cannot continue. So... we wouldn't even be able to grab gloves and clean up and continue. So I'm very confused and hoping you can help! Thanks

Miss Lori, you do such wonderful things for others; I pray GOD continues to bless you and your family. I wonder whom, if anyone, does your pedicure (especially, to reciprocate your amazing massages)? Also, do you massage pedicure clients' fingers, hands, wrists, and forearms - if so, to what point? Is it acceptable for a client to book both a mani- and pedicure for the same visit? If so, on average, how long is the process? I've only had one manicure (for the annual formal US Army ball) - and two or three acrylic nails painfully ripped off between leaving the salon, and 4 hours later, at the ball. The only pedicure I've had was at a mall, and it was not a good experience (as I wrote on another one of your informative - and relaxing - videos). Thank you, again, for always kindly responding to my questions. I know you are in high demand and quite busy. And I do appreciate your time and thoughtfulness. I was happy to see your lovely vacation pictures on Instagram. You certainly are deserving of a beautiful holiday!
@meticulousmanicurist5 жыл бұрын
Hello :) I’m sorry you had a bad experience at the walk in places. You can book a manicure and pedicure at the same time. It takes about 1.25 hours. During a manicure I give a hand and arm massage and only work in the feet and legs during a pedicure service. I don’t get to have services very often due to my schedule. Maybe one or two a year by one of my girls. Thank you for your kind words I appreciate it very much 🥰

I'm planning to become a licensed nail technician this summer and I'm really excited! I find giving pedicures and manicures really relaxing. the only thing I don't enjoy is giving a massage with gloves on. maybe that's because we use powdered gloves? also, is its okay to trim the cuticle sometimes? i know that the cuticle is to save the nail bed/root from debris.... but sometimes people just have loooong ass cuticles! but yeah. i wish you were my teacher.

Can you tell me what pedicure chair you are using ?
@meticulousmanicurist6 жыл бұрын
I have been through 4 pedicure thrones in the 16 years I have owned my salon. I can not remember the name of this one, but it is important to get one that is pipeless so bacteria does not accumulate in them. I just had to buy a replacement chair to attach to the top of the basin because the motor burned out on the chair massage. We had to look for a long time to find a chair that would fit in my room that was not so big. Make sure you measure your room and take into consideration where your stool will sit at the foot of the chair and you need space behind the chair to move the seat backward and recline backward to it does not hit the wall. The chairs they make now are sooo big and long. Search websites for pedicure equipment, you should be able to find a good one for between $2700-$4000.

@cyna11037 жыл бұрын
Tiffany MacKenzie that happens to me all the time!
@kitanakenshin7 жыл бұрын
Tiffany MacKenzie my theory is that it has to do with the shoe rubbing against the toe? so the cuticle creates more skin to protect the nail, therefore more of the dead cuticle we have to push and scrape away.... idk lol! I'm going to school for cosmetology and i find it interesting that I don't know this.
@meticulousmanicurist7 жыл бұрын
The pinky toe takes a lot of the abuse! The body knows when it needs to protect itself, It will make excess cuticle and callus if it thinks it needs to. Hitting shoes does play a big part in that.

I love your videos, I wonder if you can help?, why are the toenails yellowing towards the end that needs cutting? Mine are like this, I don't wear nail polish and keep my nails clean, do you have any tips as to stopping this from happening please? I even went to my doctor about it, he said it was a fungus so took nail clippings to send away for analysis, it came back clear.
@meticulousmanicurist7 жыл бұрын
Sometimes I suspect a client has a fungus and they tell me they went to the doctor after I recommend but then tell me the test came back negative. So now I believe that is possible. And I am not worried to work on their feet. This is my best guess after all the years of inspecting toes on all types of people with all types of situations. You don't have to answer but I would ask if you were possibly diabetic. People who are often excrete sugar through their feet. I know it sound weird but a few other things turn yellow as well, the color of the sink when they spit for a few weeks. And the arm pits of their t-shirts when they sweat. And if you are not diabetic you could have feet that perspire a lot that could cause it. The last thing is eating too many carrots, or other foods high in beta-carotene, can cause a yellowish discoloration of the skin, according to the Dermatology Clinic at UAMS. This discoloration, a condition called carotenemia, is most noticeable on the palms and soles but can cause toenails to appear yellow 😮 You can use baking soda and hydrogen peroxide with a toothbrush to whiten them. Let the mixture sit on the toenails for 10 minutes and then scrub with the brush a few times a week :) Let me know if it helps.

+Cynthia CCruzNails Soak her feet or care for them when she gets out of the bath. Trim them a little at a time. She will have a lot of debris trapped under them. Clean under as you go so you know how short you can make them :)

Is it ok to do this while he lies down

So all of my toe nails are curled like his second toe nail and even my big two toes are the worst and they hit the top of my shoes all the time and it hurts so bad it's like my shoes are constantly pressed down on my big toe nails, I cut them down and they still kind of protrude upwards because of how much they curl. It's getting to where the corner of my big toes are trying to mold/form around the corners of my toe and it hurts when I try to clean underneath with a scrapper it's like it wants to lie down and not lifted up any help?

Have your nails always been like that or have they changed years? Sometimes when people get a wart under their toenail it will push the nail up and cause the corners to curl in. Look under your toenails and see if it looks like there is a growth that looks kind of calloused. If you think it might be a wart you can have the toenails removed it is easier to treat when the toenails are not on. Your toenails will grow back just fine.

The Meticulous Manicurist Nail Tutorials it's most definitely not a wart or anything like that. They just curl a lot like they have a super super deep c curve but they weren't like that when I was younger. Just as of the last like 4/5 years (I'm 23). Kind of like if you got a pinching tool and used that on them.
