Expressing dates in Russian can be tricky, so in this video we'll cover all you need to know to say what the date is, and on which date something happened. We'll also have an overview of choosing the right case(s) to express that something happened when you mention just the year; the month and the year; the date and month; and finally, the date, month, and year together. (Note: the translation at 1:24 should of course be "July," as in the audio and the Russian в июле!)
This is an intermediate tutorial. To get the most out of it, it's best to be comfortable with ordinal numbers, as well as genitive and prepositional case endings. If you'd like to review those, please see videos on adjectives in these playlists on the prepositional case:
• Prepositional Case
...and the genitive case:
• Genitive case

Спасибо большое! Many teachers often leave students in mental disarray because they don't grasp that students struggle to determine WHEN to use the Genitive and WHEN to use the Prepositional. You made it real simple - if you start to mention the day / date (i.e., 16th, 17th, etc.) - everything falls into genitive. Just the month - prepositional. Just the year - prepositional. I can live with that. It has made my job 10x easier.

You've got it! And just one other option, for when you want month+year only: в ноябре двадцать второго года - в (каком месяце?) (какого года?) - в + prepositional, then genitive for the year. :)

Russian "то" is used in quite a few ways... here's a video on using то, что to link clauses, for expressing things like "I thought about what he said." kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXecenZjndFrjc0 Feel free to ask about other ways too. :)
