I’ve been a Vikings fan since ‘68. I live and died with the Vikings!!! I was consumed by the team! I was sad after losing SB XI. I knew they were an aging team that would likely never get back. That era of the Minnesota Vikings meant so much to me.

I grew up a Vikings fan living in NJ. I loved those guys. Always will. Sure I wish they would have won a Superbowl. But I'll take the players over a championship. It was a special team, with special players, at a special time. I grew up a Vikings and RedSox fan. That wasn't always easy. But I feel so fortunate to have experienced it. I saw the Vikings in person for the first time in 1985 when my dad took me to Veterans Stadium to see the Eagles vs Vikings. If anyone remembers the Eagles took a 23-0 lead with about four minutes to go in the third quarter. I then witnessed one of the greatest comebacks in NFL history when the Vikings scored four late touchdowns to win 28-23. One of Bud Grant's last games after he came back from retirement to save the day from Les Steckel.

Greatest Minnesota Vikings Era of all time. Proven consistent winners from 68' to 78' but for the .500 record in 72'. The excitement of watching Vikings football during those years has never been equaled.

As a diehard Cowboys Fan, it's hard for even me to think as many great Hall of Fame players as the Vikings had in that Era they didn't win at least a couple of those Super Bowls. Players like Tarkenton, Eller, Paige, Stu Voight , Chuck Foreman and Mick Tinglehoff. and one the greatest coaches in NFL history Bud Grant whom I held in high regard as well as Tom Landry. And miss watching the Vikings play their home games in the winter time when it was snowing and the wind was blowing at old Metropolitan Stadium. Now that was Football that separated the Men from the Boys 👦 I'm 68 now but I was in my teens and twenties during that Great Minnesota Vikings Era!

What a beast of a running back. He took so much punishment during his career. If he could have played longer, he would be in the Hall of Fame.

I remember all four appearances clearly. When SuperXI came my thought was that this would be their last hurrah. When McNiel blocked Guys punt I was supercharged and thinking that a victory would happen in Viking fashion. It was dashed immediately.

That’s not all true Mr. Tarkenton in Super Bowl IX you’re squad should have won that game, your Vikings were jobbed by the officials in the 3rd & 4th quarters, the Vikings should have won Super Bowl IX & the Bills should have won Super Bowl XXV

The great Viking teams of the 70s appeared in three of those super bowls primarily because of the great Chuck Foreman. Sadly the consistant lackadaisical Super Bowl performances are a reflection on coach Grant. Bud will alway be considered a great coach but at the super bowl level, the team deserved better and coach Grant just didn't have it.

Foreman wasn’t a slam dunk from the 1 yard line. He fumbled 9 times in 11 playoff games.

I 'll take your word for it , but with the exception of one ( SB 9) those fumbles wernt from the 1 though. Through the 1976 season, Foreman averaged more td's than anyone in league history.

Yeah Krause got trucked every time he made a tackle. Definitely not his game, Csonka talked about how he loved seeing Krause try to tackle him. Essentially he said, he might bring me down but it’ll be five yards after his initial contact.

The question as to WHY the lousy performance in all four games remains to be answered. Shavers tries to ask it in a Minnesota nice type of way, but it's side swiped by all. There HAS to be a reason why their play was so awful !!
