Hi, My shift shaft keeps popping off the shift drum and jamming in 1st. Very frustrating as it's the end of a race day when it happens! Any idea what could be wrong? Could I bend the end of the shift shaft to be a tighter fit onto the drum?

Yes, the right crankcase cover needs to come off, so you will need to drain the oil.

Hi. I can move my shiftershaft 3 mm in and out. In this video i ve seen how the system works and I assume is a bit the same as my cr 250 engine(1990). Do you know what can cause the movement of the shaft?. As far as i've seen there is no thing that blocks the axial movement and holds the shaft in place. T.i.a. Gr. Pim
@Fixyourdirtbike6 жыл бұрын
The shift shaft is held in place by the crank case cover and the shift lever, but 3mm is a lot of play. It sounds like your crank case it worn, or your shift lever isn't tight against the case.

Do you think this could be my issue? My 1995 CR250 shifter lever sometimes sticks up and does not allow the bike to go into third. When the engine warms up it falls back down and then things are fine.
@Fixyourdirtbike4 жыл бұрын
It could be your external shift linkage is worn, but I would bet your internal shift drum is worn out. Do the service on your external and see if you get lucky! Let me know if you need any help!

Fix Your Dirt Bike do you mean internal shift drum that is inside the case? Which means I would have to split the case or shift drum in the linkage? I will finish the inspection , grease the shaft and see how it goes tonight.

Hey, thanks for this great video (even though it's been five years!) I just have a question pertaining to the linkage. I'm doing a bottom end and when I put the cases together the transmission shifted perfectly up until the point I put together the linkage. Before, I could even shift by spinning the outer part of the drum by using a T-handle on the bolt that holds the drum pieces together. As soon as I put the linkage in and put the shifter on, it became really hard to shift, it wouldn't click out of first, even with some force and spinning the mainshaft. Just wondering if it's normally pretty hard to shift at this stage given all the moving parts? I just can't get it to click out even with some wiggling and reassembling the linkage five times. I'm pretty sure I'm overthinking it but just wondering. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I would check that the pawls are engaging the drum freely and not binding on the guide. I've had that happen before.

Hi I know this video has been out for awhile but I am having issues with my shifting too. The transmission shifting very smoothly through all of the gears while we had the crank cases open but once we put the shift linkage on shifting got really hard. Along with the hard shifting it no longer goes into 6th gear because the lever will not return. Do you know what I can do to fix this?

Hey john after reassembling my cases (crank rebuild) and doing the steps listed here I can only shift once before it won't completely shift into the next gear. Any suggestions? My only guess is the shift forks are in wrong but I really don't want to split the cases right after finally pressing them.
