Perhaps it’s just me, but even if the pigment isn’t as lightfast, I will always go for a rarer pigment, it just romanticizes the process for me, as if I’m “documenting” the rare color. Naturally this here is a much better documenting of the pigment than I could ever do!

I’m behind this thought 100%! 😅 also, I do sell these dots if you send me a message 😉

Absolutely stunning. I see the resemblance to quin violet especially. It looks like it would have some unique mixing properties, at least to my eyes.

I think it does! And it does look quite like Quin violet indeed!

I have a pan of PR88 in my palette and absolutely love it. The version I have is quite red so I use it frequently in mixes.

to fill out the synthesis description a little, it's 2-(2,5-Dichlorophenylthio)acetic acid and chlorosulfonic acid in hot anhydrous concentrated sulfuric acid. Someone dropped the full description in one of the databases and the truncated description got propagated from there. Sorry to rain on the parade of anyone hoping vinegar and sulfuric acid would work.

I have some from Grumbacher and Winsor and Newton. It's so interesting to paint with and i like the slight earthiness and smoother texture compared to PV19
@dirtyblueshop10 ай бұрын
Thanks for the addition, earthiness is a good way to describe it. Is it the drying shift or overall in those paints?
@jackie410 ай бұрын
@dirtyblueshop I would say the drying shift. And the 3 I have are all basically the same exact hue, Grumbacher Academy and Finest, and Winsor+Newton Pro

Thank you Laurens, an interesting colour in it's own right, PV19 has become so ubiquitous for a reason but this is lovely. On a side note the 'indanthrene violet I was curious about the other day (PV36) is also described as 'thioindigoid' so perhaps related?
@dirtyblueshop10 ай бұрын
Maybe! I’ll look into it!

I didn’t know there was an Indanthrene violet! I use the blue often but now I’m so curious to find this violet

It’s sad to see a pigment become extinct. Surely you don’t sell these ones? So precious!

I might have some dots laying around if you’re interested to buy this pigment as a paint

@R5YUSER oow that’s nice! The violet or red version?

this one is pretty. but yeah if it's not super lightfast it's a bit of a problems unless you make prints.
