There's a lot more they couldn't possibly fit in one video but they did SO MUCH before and during the uprising. Both boy and girl scouts were incredibly well organized but also didn't lack boldness and even humour. You should definitely read up on their methods of sabotage and diversion

Interesting fact is, that the hungarian troops stationed near Warsaw refused to fight against the Poles. Actually the hungarians supplied them with ammunition, food, medications and provided shelter for the wounded.

I'm half Polish but grew up in Holland. I don't even know the language but I will never forget all the tales my grandmother told me about the war. She really disliked the Russians, which I didn't understand until I was older. On her birthday, the Polish side of the family used to do a few shots of vodka together and she would start singing war songs. She always tried offering me and my sister some vodka too, but we were much too young and my mom forbade it. She's too old and sick now to drink spirits, but she still comes to live when she hears old Polish marching songs.

Also fun fact, General Edward Rydz-Śmigły, the former commander of Polish Forces before the war, actually escaped internment in Romania and joined the Underground Army but went under another name, because he still felt guilty for Poland's loss. He died in 1941-2 due to a heart attack though.

There were *volunteer* allied missions to drop supplies from aircraft to the resistance, by mid August 1944. My uncle, W.O. Murray. A. Baxter, piloted two such missions out of Foggia in Italy flying a Liberator, being shot down and killed on the second mission on August 15th.

One of the members of the gray ranks remembers that when they retreated from the old town the civilians begged them to stay. This was one of the most tragic things about the uprising. People who didn’t exit the city in time were trapped and their only defense was the resistance. Every retreat meant that thousands civilians and wounded were left to die by the heads of the German forces. That is why this is one of the most bloody battle of the 20 century. In that battle more poles died than Americans in Vietnam.

At first yes but America never directly intervened in any meaningful capacity (save for a few airstrikes and some supplies I believe) to protect the French Colony of Feench Indochina. America intervened to stop the communists from overruing the south Vietnamese who were independent from France. American intervention was extremely limited in the 1956 First Indochina war. They had no intentions of returning it to French rule the strategic objective of the Second Indochina war was simply to preserve the status quo and prevent the fall of South Vietnam to the North which is where they failed and ultimately lost

For anyone interested as to how the Allies thanked the Poles for essentially giving them the tools to win the war, from a working enigma machine instrumental in the work at Bletchley to providing fighting men for damn near every major campaign in Europe..either read I Saw Poland Betrayed by Arthur Bliss Lane or just research the Yalta Conference. It truly is sad how the Allies threw Poland aside after the war…

The Soviets had spies that informed them of the leadership in the Polish resistance. When the Soviets took control they had their spies gather up the officers and executed them. They oppressed the people of Poland. The war didn't end in 1945 for the Polish. They continued to fight the Soviets.

My great grandfather was actually an officer who was killed in the Katyn Massacre. He still lays there today. My other great grandfather was a solider sent on the German front. He died within the first months of fighting. Take what you want from it, but my grandmother swears he came to her (as a spirit or ghost), and when he took his helmet off she saw his severed head and then he just faded away. She was two or three when he died.

The "polish nation" wasn't destroyed. This was concentrated in Warsaw and other big cities. Though millions died, the poles still lived on, keeping their customs and their language. They were able to rebuild because the nation of the poles wasn't destroyed. Look at what happened to the nation of the Gauls after the Roman conquest of Gaul. Intresting fact for 10:02 : in Polish language there are two diffrent words for oldtowns - "Stare Miasto" (literally: "old city") is an original historical centre of city, while "Starówka" (literally: "oldie") is a reconstructed historical centre. This division was introduced after the WW2 because many cities were completly destroyed then (however many people from the capital still misuse it and call "starówka" even those historical centres that hadn't been destroyed)

On 30 Jul 1941 was signed Polish-Soviet Union Agreement. According to the agreement USSR equipped a polish Army of General Anders (75.000) which was supposed to fight on the soviet front. I’ve been fascinated by Poland for the last few years. The commonwealth era was a fascinating time, a interesting stab at democracy before the “great experiment” and a multicultural empire much stabler than the Austrians. Post Great War they beat back the red army, even beating the Soviet Union. After the curtain fell, they’re rebuilding the city, bringing back historic sites. The fact that they have such a strong identity after everything they’ve been through is really impressive.
