Welp, Justinian kind of screwed up early, didn't he? Yeah, technically it wasn't a bad idea to help foment chaos amongst the Sassanids by delaying negotiations, but it still would have been less costly both in the short run and in the long run to just amicably settle terms with Khosrau immediately and be done with it. Alas, now Justinian has to prepare for a 'master class of trollsmanship' by Khosrau in the future. Prepare for Operation: Stick it to Justinian!

Precisely! My eyes are light blue, but I have a very prominent brown section in one eye which is known as segmental heterochromia. However, if both my eyes were entirely separate colours (one brown one blue for example) that would be complete heterochromia.

And thus Justinian committed one of the great errors Machiavelli warned against: Take a side properly, don't refuse to act. If you refuse to act, either winner will remember that you didn't support him. If you choose a side and push properly (send in the troops!) the likely winner will remember you favorably. If the other side wins you're in more or less the same position, except the war your lack of support will engender will be immediately, which is to your favor as you already have your troops on the border.
