Before you evaporate the aqueous solution, if you put it in the freezer for a little bit, you could crystallize the potassium nitrate out due to its lower solubility in cool water. Then you only have the small amount of chlorate to deal with in your sodium nitrate solution.

You might be better to use sodium carbonate which is much more soluble than sodium bicarbonate. I think that strontium carbonate is cheaper it is used as glasing by potters, if you check you will find many hard to find metal oxides and salts from pottery suppies. Very interresting work!

tin is strontium because it can take a hammering, if uve got a good enough chunk of it.
