It saddens me to see where my viewing pleasure is heading with the commercials getting longer and also doubling up on the videos and now with memberships being offered it’s only going to get worse,KZbin is just another cable company without the cable so I see that invisible cord being cut in the near future. Maybe some people need those perks like having their names mentioned on social media it shows how self esteem is very weak in our society!🤷♂️ like and subscribe is one thing, pay per view is another
@JeffHorchoff11 ай бұрын
Like you, I am no fan of commercials on videos, but I am a believer in compensation for work that is preformed. Anyone who has a KZbin channel know very well how much time and energy is necessary to produce content week after week, especially content that is worth watching, so why should they not be compensated? The fact that KZbin offers skippable adds, and I do subscribe to that option, is one way to make the break in the video a bit more palatable, but realize, ads are the single, largest way for creators to be compensated for their work, and trust me, it is NOT fair compensation. But for many creators, like myself, we make videos because we are passionate about the content that is produced and devoted to all that chose to follow along with it, and THAT is the reason we continue producing content even though the compensation is not fair. Now, KZbin offers "memberships" to creators as another venue to create income for the creators, and I have opted to offer that on my channel. I would argue with you that viewers reasoning for becoming a member is "having their names mentioned on social media." Rather, those that would chose to become members, and those who are already members, do so to offer tangible support of the work I do other than by simply watching the video. It saddens me to hear you talk about "cutting that invisible cord" as you have been a long time viewer, but I understand your point of view, and I do appreciate the time you have spent watching my channel. God's peace Tim. Mr. Ed
@timfeckley168911 ай бұрын
@@JeffHorchoff I do understand the time it takes to do the videos but I ask why did anyone start their channel in the first place? Was it for fun or the monetary benefit that would possibly come out of it? Or to help others learn or gain knowledge to be better at what they are trying to achieve? If it was for fun then compensation should not be a consideration to continue producing,but if it was to make money then thats a business venture and that’s something I’m not willing to subscribe to. When KZbin started most videos were how to type now there’s just a lot of non-sense garbage with women in spandex or showing their upper assets in order to get people to watch the soft porn, our screwed up society has made their way to my iPad so forgive my opinion your video just hit me the wrong way this morning.
@JeffHorchoff11 ай бұрын
@@donbearden1953 Hey Don, I knew you subscribed to a lot of channels but not that many, man that is a lot!! The compensation KZbin pays to content providers is ridiculous, pennies per thousand views. Never the less, I produce the content of my channel because I enjoy sharing my bee wrangling experiences first of all. Whether I did or not monetized my channel, KZbin would STILL run adds on it. My reasoning behind why I began the "membership" program was driven by request not greed. I have been asked so often by viewers that they would love to support my works and this venue is a way they can put into practice their desire to help. The format of my channel has not nor will be changed, I'm still the same old Mr. Ed making videos about the experiences of a beekeeper/bee wrangler, and other than running skippable ads, it's still free as long as KZbin says it's free, and all are welcomed to watch....or not. Regardless, I'll be making more. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

Another great vid Mr Ed. So educational and interesting at the same time. There is so much more to beekeeping and honey production than the leyman would consider. The reason your vids are so great is because you love what you're doing and that comes across so well. Also love the acoustic guitar music you put on your vids, which is more work for you I know, but just letting you know its appreciated. Much love from the UK!

I'm deeply saddened to hear of Jennifer's passing. 💔 Such a great loss to all who knew and loved her, and of course the bee keeping community there in Louisiana. Holding you all who are grieving in our hearts, whilst rejoicing for her reunion with God. I just want to learn more and have a question about all the nectar that was in the frames you extracted the honey from this time. I always thought that one should wait to extract honey until it's all (or mostly) fully dehydrated, cured and capped by the bees. I remember hearing certain moisture level percentages...maybe something like 17% or lower? I can't really remember the figures I've heard, but I've always just waited until the bees saw fit to cap their honey before harvesting it, trusting they knew best when it was ready! Anyway, I'm curious; won't all the nectar that was still left in some of those frames dilute the honey you collected to a much higher moisture % level? Might it spoil or at least ferment more readily with a higher moisture content? How might it affect the viscosity and/or taste of the honey? Should it be stored in the refrigerator to be kept from fermenting or is it ok in the cupboard like any regular jar of honey? Lastly, if you know anything about making mead, would a higher moisture content in honey change the amount/ratio of the ingredients in the recipes? Many thanks Brother. Have a wonderful time at the conference!

It is true, nectar should not be mixed when processing honey as it will lead to fermentation if the moisture content gets over about 17%. However, what I thought was nectar was in fact honey that had not been capped over. Thanks for watching. God's peace Carole. Mr. Ed

26:36 been watching your vids and you do make your job hard. By 27:30 you've already adjusted for the better. Maybe a table next to the spinner positioning the super at exactly the rim height, minimising back bending and rotation. I've wondered why the whole vertical stack isn't moved on a hand trolley with a high axle pivot to allow the vertical stack to be positioned horizontally at working height. That way every super is at the perfect height without bending up and down.

As the method I used to process the honey in this video is not my normal one, I agree, a lot of the work could have been done easier. However, the job got done, and if I have to do it in the same fashion as I did it in the video, next time I will work smarter. Thank you for your suggestions and for taking the time to watch the video, it is greatly appreciated. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

What do you do when the thickness of the comb becomes so uneven that the bees no longer use the whole frame? Also what do you do when the comb becomes thicker than the frame is? With no space between frames anymore the bees start to connect the frames together. If you ever see those things I guess you won't have a answer but if you do then maybe you can show us in your next extracting video? Thank you
@JeffHorchoff10 ай бұрын
Because of the way I rotate out my comb, very little of it is over 3 years old, and at that age it is in very good shape. The comb is leveled out after running it through the uncapper machine. As long as 10 frames are maintained in the brood boxes, that is never an issue. I hope I answered your questions. Thanks for asking and for watching. Also, I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. By the way, I post a new video every Friday morning, and I look forward to hearing from you again soon. God's peace. Mr. Ed

Do you ever clean the queen cages? I noticed they always look yucky and one had a half squished bee still in it
@JeffHorchoff11 ай бұрын
I run a pretty tight ship here at the Abbey Honey House, but I don't do a very good job at cleaning equipment punctually, so yeah, the queen cages do look pretty bad, but they still hold the queen when she's caged. Of course I put a rubber band around the cage to make sure she stays inside.Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed

I'm with ya!! I moved to the Caribbean 3 years ago,Ohio was too cold!! 50 is cold to me!! I just got my 1st hive, it's heavily waxed, should I still paint it? Thanks again 🐝 🍯
@JeffHorchoff11 ай бұрын
I really don't know if the paint would stick to the box if it is waxed. I know that when a box is dipped in parafin it can be painted while the box is still warm. If allowed to cool, the paint will not stick to it. However, since the box was waxed, it does not need to be painted, it is already protected. When I was a kid we lived in Panama, the Canal Zone, it was the best place I have ever lived and I miss the year round warm weather. Enjoy the Caribbean, I'm jealous. Thanks for watching. What does tallow have to do with honey crystalization?

Wax off ... Wax off ;) I would have made the supporting flanges of that frame holder a bit narrower (about the same as the thickness of the frame itself) to avoid honey sticking to it. I would also recommend removing a notch on the side near you so you can flip the frames over easily for uncapping of the other side.

Hi Jeff! I wonder if you could explain why honey crystallizes sooo quickly sooo often. I live in Upstate New York, in the Helderberg hilltowns and all the Raw local honey I bought this year and last year crystallized in a matter of a month or two.
@JeffHorchoff11 ай бұрын
It all has to do with the sugar content of the nectar. I'm not real familiar with the scientific reasons, but trust me, it has something to do with the enzymes in the nectar. Thanks for watching. God's peace Sharon. Mr. Ed

Make the check out to St. Joseph Abbey but send the letter to: Mr. Ed 75376 River Rd. St. Benedict, La. 70457 If you'd like, I'll even sign the bottle. Looking forward to hearing from you. Does anyone know if the darker the honey the better? Ive been buying literally black honey and to me it seems thicker and a more fruitier taste than the lighter honey! I get the feeling the lighter the honey the more sugar water the bees have had and the darker the honey the less sugar water and more natural, whats made me think this is uk honey the beekeepers have to give them sugar water for them to survive cold but the honey from warmer climates like spain the honey is really dark! Am i right in thinking this any information is appreciated and thanks
@JeffHorchoff11 ай бұрын
I too prefer "dark" honey as I find it has more taste other than just "sweet." I can't speak on the chemistry of darker honey compared to lighter honeys, but I'm positive if the chemistries were compared we would find out the reason. Thanks for watching. God's peace Michael. Mr. Ed
