Having a variable-speed motor in a bee-vac machine is ideal. It is gentle to the bees, it is much quieter in operation. In addition to this, I believe that with a slower motor speed and gentle suction, that the battery will not discharge so quickly - you do not need to worry that the battery will be discharged before the bees have all been collected.
@donbearden19532 жыл бұрын
Mr Ed, I think that the original colony may have absconded and a swarm moved in after the tree was taken down and that’s why there’s no stores. I operated heavy equipment in my younger years and had to take several bee trees down for roads or buildings. Once the tree is on the ground within a day or two the bees would abscond and then I would take a chainsaw to it and harvest the honey. I didn’t know back then that I should have been saving the bees!

the bees who have been here for millions of years know what they want are doing fine, now man has stepped in to do what is "best for them", their good life is over as they knew it.
@JeffHorchoff2 жыл бұрын
There are many philosophies on keeping bees, and "ownership" is one of them. However, I prefer the term "steward," and regard my role as one of assisting the bees to prosper on their terms and not force my idea of how bees should behave upon them, which is why I do not treat our bees. Given that, why then did I remove the bees from their natural habitat and install them in a conventional bee hive? Had these bees not bee relocated, they would have starved and died over the winter because there were not sufficient stores of pollen or honey in the hive for them to make it. Now, they are in a bee box being fed, and their likelihood of survival is greatly increased. Thanks for watching. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed

I have seen cone that dark brown before, but I don't think those are the original bees that produced it. That cone is old and I mean years old, so I am assuming that those bees are from a swarm that found an empty hive that other bees vacated or actually had died off, and the young queen decided to make it her home. Anyone care to state I am wrong?

Doing clean up around my hometown. (Ft Myers). Hurricane made a big mess. I have seen so many hives that drowned in the storm and surge😢😢😢😢😢😢. So many hives in water meters on the ground and it is horrible to see them all dead. I am super stoked that my bees at home survived all that wind.(they were ANGRY the day after, but now are back to normal.) I have a downed tree I have to go get bees out of when I get the time, but I am working over 80 hours a week on disaster relief.

I have a bee hive in the tree to remove just like what you did I know nothing about the bees how long they been in there all I know the owner called me up last month of the winter which is August here that he has a tree on the ground with bees in it,but at that time for me was not convinient to go take them out but I should be ok to go next couple of weeks but I don't have battery operated bee vac. Any suggestion please.
@JeffHorchoff2 жыл бұрын
You can simply take the entire log and bring it to your place, I have done that several times already. It is not absolutely necessary to remove the bees and put them in a box, so you do not need a bee vac. The video link below is one such video where I took the entire log with the bees in it, as well as vacuuming another hive from a tree. I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 12 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. Mr Ed, Do you ever worry about moving bees from one place to another and thus leaving the original place without the necessary bees to their required jobs?
@JeffHorchoff2 жыл бұрын
I take special effort to capture all the bees that are from the hive. Still, in instances where robber bees outnumber the remaining bees, and I don't want to vacuum the robber bees as they will fight with the hive bees, I am forced to leave some behind. However, the few that remain behind will not make any difference to the ones that will be moved as we capture more than 85% or more of the original hive. Thanks for watching. God's peace Mary. Mr. Ed

I have a couple of questions. How long after starting a cutout do bees remain defensive? I have a theory that robber bees will become a like a shook swarm if taken far away from the place that they were robbing, what are your thoughts?
@JeffHorchoff2 жыл бұрын
Generally, the bees calm down almost immediately. However, there are always a few that stay mad for a while. If only a few of the robber bees are vacuumed, they will become part of the hive. However, if to many are vacuumed , they will fight in the bee vac. That's why I stop vacuuming when there are to many robbers around. Thank you Jesus! 🐝🇦🇺 I was wondering about the bees getting vacuumed. Is it a gentle suction or is gentle too slow? I have a lovely Christian friend who was very distressed watching them being sucked up. She usually watches a lady who scoops them up in her hands.
@JeffHorchoff2 жыл бұрын
Because the bee vac is designed NOT to harm bees because of it's low suction, the bees are not harmed. Removing bees by hand is a very good way of doing it, but even that way will result in the loss of some bees. I'm curious,how many hives do you lose per year and what is the reason.it would seem that the bees you wrangle would thrive at the abby.
@biggtrux2 жыл бұрын
There are three big problems in bee keeping right now. Pesticides are a big one, CCD (colony collapse disorder) the bees leave and just don't come back, add mites and there go your bees.
@JeffHorchoff2 жыл бұрын

Question. Since that colony had been there long enough to reorient their comb, why not cut the log and take the whole thing at night to your bee yard? Seems like they would do just as well there over winter as moving them to a normal hive but with less stress. Then in the spring as the flow kicks off you could hive them and give them the best chance to survive the move. I do removals and the end of September is the latest I’ll attempt a relocation.
@JeffHorchoff2 жыл бұрын
I could have taken the log, and I have done so many times in the past. However, on this particular hive, due to the nearness of winter and my fear of them starving out, I chose to remove the bees from the tree and place them in a hive. As it turned out, because the bees had insufficient stores of food due to the condition of the comb, no doubt they would have perished over the winter due to starvation. One more thing concerning you stopping removals after September. I love doing removals in the winter, as long as temperatures reach 50 degrees, for several reasons, lowest number of bees in the hive, little if any brood at all in the hive, and less honey to deal with. Also, as long as all the stores are given back to the bees, winter removals have the highest percentage of surviving the removal as opposed to dong a removal in warmer weather. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my over 500 bee wrangling/ bee rescue adventure videos and let me know what you think of them.
