My favourite part of this is how Bowie initially comes off as sympathetic to Millman (Gervais) when listening to him confide about his show, but then out of nowhere just blurts "little fat man who sold his soul". Gets me everytime.

(The two songs are actually connected by the theme of on-screen entertainment, since THFL was used as the closing theme song for the movie "Seven.")

I think what really sells this is the lack of any overt malice on Bowie's part. He's just doing what artists do: taking in what's going on around him, processing it, and then using it to create. It's not personal. Throw in Gervais, who portrays a perpetual victim as well as anyone alive, and you've got comedy gold.
