I think I agree with you. I have an Emira on order and test drove one a month ago. Great car but I do have concerns about potential build quality issues and small dealer network. Remember that emira does many things brilliantly and looks undoubtedly gorgeous. But the Porsche does everything brilliantly.
@mono3605 Жыл бұрын
I test drove an Emira recently and I think the GTS 4.0 is better. The Emira is essentially just a reskinned Evora. It doesn’t drive like a modern car. The shifter is a little fussy and hard to place in gears. The steering while good, isn’t amazing like Mclarens. The GTS 4.0 feels like a glove. It does exactly what you want it to do when you want. The gearbox is buttery smooth, the damping is perfect. The steering is excellent. And it EXISTS. The Emira is great if you want something specifically for the more exotic looks, or you want something with “flaws”. Some people consider that to be character, and I can accept that. The 718 GTS 4.0 is the perfect all around sports car though IMO

@@rm1626 yea i get that. And I mentioned that in my comment. Some people enjoy flaws, as adding character. (I will say, I really dislike modern BMW manuals, they are very rubbery and light. Haven't driven something like an 04). Porsche's manual is almost like a PDK-lite. It's so perfect. Every shift is so easy to nail, upshifts and downshifts. I personally love it. You can be fast, and focus on your line, corners, steering, while still having full control of your transmission. You could argue, "might as well just get a pdk" lol, and that's a totally valid argument

Loved your comment about Porsche always finding a way to remove weight. I was at my local dealer recently for a service appointment and they allowed me a sneak peek at a new 718 Cayman GT4 RS they had hidden in the back. I was chatting with one of the staff and we got on this very topic of weight, when he pointed to the Porsche emblem on the front bonnet. He asked me if I noticed anything different, when I looked closer it was indeed different, it was a decal! All in the interest of saving weight. So you are right, Porsche will search for fractions of a gram if it serves their goal. As for your comparison to the Emira, I hear what you guys are saying but I would still take Porsche. It’s easy to fall in love with a car for one reason or another, but what really counts is build quality and the ownership experience after the purchase, and Porsche hands down goes out of their way to service their customers. I can’t say enough about how well Porsche treats me as a customer, and when there is an issue I can’t say enough about the responsibility they take, they genuinely care. I have both modern and classic Porsche cars in my garage, and they treat me and my cars exactly the same regardless the vintage.

With headers and stage two it makes 370hp, truly all you need for the street. There are guys tracking these with 150,000 miles on them. Just keep up on the maintenance and it’s no worries. It has lifetime drive axles and timing chain. I do my own maintenance which takes about one Saturday every summer. If you buy a Quick Jack it’ll pay for itself in less than two years. I spend 200 a year for basic maintenance and replace soft tires every two years but there’s a price for everything and it’s well worth it for the sheer pleasure every time I drive it. You can get a 2013-2015 with 40,000 miles or less in really great condition for 50k or less. To me the greatest driving experience for your buck. I luckily had a good friend who was ASE certified and was willing to work on her at a friends/family rate. You made the right choice in going with a Porsche. I always struggle with this. I really like Porsche and I've done Camp4 and Camp4S and driven quite a few in anger and around the place. They always feel like the perfect car "for everything", but mildly compromised when it comes to all out fun as a result. They never really do lightweight - 50kg on the spyder version (at least the old generation) was disappointing. Seeing so many on the road also makes it feel less special to me. It's also easy to lost in the options. Every car review says how perfect they are - until the new generation comes along. I was looking at one for an upgrade to my lotus exige 4 cyclinder (because I was trying to adult more) - but my head said yes, but my heart said no. Got the V6 exige. It only does one thing well. Everything else is a compromise. It is objectively a terrible option as a daily driver. But it was and I loved it. It is bullet proof with the toyota engine and drive train. Taken it everywhere. I've done 160,000 km in it. Then when I went to upgrade that lotus, I went to a 600LT. I still have the lotus though - you will never pry that from my hands.

718 GT4 owner. I personally don't think the tall gearing is the main issue but it is part of the problem. For me, the main issue is the 4 liter doesn't sound alive until you are at least half way through the RPM band. If Porsche managed to make the engine sound more lively down low, people wouldn't be complaining nearly as much. If it the Cayman/Boxster 4 liter sounded more like the GT3 4 liter in the GT4RS/Spyder RS, most of the complaining would go away as you wouldn't be forced to rev the engine out so much to actually hear it. Changing out the exhaust would fix some of the problem, making the car sound a little different earlier.

9:51 Definitely left out the Supra. Sure it's basically a Z4 coupe. But it's fast (with crazy tuning potential) and has a manual (with a pretty competent automatic). The interior leaves a lot to be desired, but it's definitely a great 2-seater for the money! Although if I had $60K more to spend I would definitely get the GTS instead.

The 718 Cayman GTS is a Porsche that more people can aspire to. I can’t get close to a lowest-end, “stripper” Carrera 911 for less than $120,000, but the very well-equipped 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 that I spec’d out came in at only $108,180. Just a matter of convincing my other half that we need it.

I own a 2022 GTS Boxster and it is a wonderful car on the road. Drives like an old fashioned English sports cars. My only complaint is that the engine never makes any pops, crackles and back fires like the 992 911 models do when down shifting in the pdk. It is a much smaller car than the 911 and the dashboard tech is five years old. Still has a cd changer under the d small display. Bose sounds great. So much fun cutting through freeway traffic. Top down is wonderful. Definitely the Boxster is better than the Cayman. As long as you get over 4,000 rpm - it sounds more serious but still missing the sound like in any 911 engine.

Biggest problem with the Emira is the engine is an old 2GR engine without D4S, and it doesn't have special internals, a dry sump or anything that makes the engine anything different than a 10 year old Camry engine, besides the supercharger. It doesn't feel as special because of that, but it is probably a blast to drive.

@robbertblok561210 ай бұрын
No, not the same. With a V engine the 4, 6, 8 or 12 cilinders are placed opposite each other in an angle, a V shape. Boxer engines have their cilinders placed horizontally and opposite each other, as if the cilinders are "boxing" against each other which has several benefits, for example a much lower centre of gravity and a unique sound.

Porsches are great cars, I’ve owned a 981 Boxster, 718 Cayman, 991.2 911, 992 C2S, and currently a Cayenne coupe and love(d) them all. However, they are getting absolutely delusional with their new car prices. Although they obviously punch above their weight, we have a base 911 with 379 hp that is $125k with options. A 379 hp car for $125k😐. We have this Cayman GTS, great car but again $110k with options. Both these cars are going to most likely get rolled on the highway by a $65k M2 and without a doubt get rolled at all speeds by an $85k M3 or M4 xDrive. I traded my 21 M2 Comp when I got the C2S brand new back in 2021 and although the C2S is undoubtedly faster, I can’t say it’s all that more fun than the M2 comp was for less than half the price. 4 years ago I felt like Porsches were fairly priced but now definitely overpriced. Go with BMW unless money is absolutely no object to you, then go with both!
@Gnrnrvids Жыл бұрын
Those same cars are pushing the equivalent of $200kUSD in Australia. I think a GT4 is north of $400kAUD. I have a 987 Cayman S and if I went for a new S with similar options I'd be near $220kAUD.
@jgway9980 Жыл бұрын
@@Gnrnrvids unbelievable. I certainly hope wages are higher in Australia to compensate for the price difference vs US prices. My other complaint with these new Porsches is that they don’t sound near as good as they used to. With the price of a new base 911 it should sound amazing and I can attest that the 992 C2S does not sound amazing. I get it with the new regulations it’s difficult to make a car sound amazing but what boggles my mind is that people are still paying these prices for a sports car that doesn’t sound that great.
@Gnrnrvids Жыл бұрын
@@jgway9980 largely yes I think wages are higher in line with differences in value of the dollar. Porsche often have the cars specced standard with things that would be options in the us. Eg I think all 957 cayennes had air suspension as standard. Ford do similar. The FN mustang was $75k here on launch a few years ago, but we only got the fully optioned version here.
@Gnrnrvids Жыл бұрын
@@jgway9980 housing is mental here now though. The area I grew up in for example the median house price is pushing $1m aud which is insane compared to even as little as 25 years ago when they might have been say $100k.
@jgway9980 Жыл бұрын
@@Gnrnrvids tough state of affairs for sure. So sad to see so many people get priced out of the housing market. Just 2 years ago I purchased the C2S new with a $5k dealer discount. $127k out the door. Same car would be about $150k now. Ironically I also purchased a house 6 months prior to that. Sure it’s great my house is worth more than I paid but it’s fool’s gold because if I sold I would just have to overpay to buy another place.

While the 718 GTS is super dope and I'd love to have one, either a Cayman or a Boxster GTS, that 4L is NOT from the 911 GT3 as you guys just claimed, it's actually from the 2016 Carrera, it started it's life as a 3L turbo flat 6, not the GT3's 4L.... Edit: you stated GT4.... not GT3, but im still right, because the 718 GT4 actually does use the 911 GT3's 4L F6, but again, the 718 GTS 4L are based off of the 2016 Carrera's 3L with its turbos removed and its displacement increased.
@GoldPlatedCheese Жыл бұрын
The 718 GTS 4.0 and 718 GT4/Spyder are identical engines. The GTS revs to 7800 instead of 8000 and makes a touch less power but it’s literally identical and based on the 3.0L from the 911 and has nothing to do with the GT3 4L engine
@johnnygeorgopoulos4072 Жыл бұрын
@@GoldPlatedCheese no. Again, the 718 GTS 4.0 has a F6 derived from a Carrera, it starts it's life as a 3L turbocharged F6.....in contrast, both the 718 GT4 RS and Spyder RS get their powerplant directly from the GT3 911, per Porsche directly.

@@johnnygeorgopoulos4072 correct. I’m your original comment (and edit) you had mentioned that the 718 GT4 uses the GT3’s 4L F6. I’m aware that the GT4RS and RS Spyder use the GT3’s 4L F6 and that the regular 718 GT4, 718 Spyder, and GTS 4.0 are using the Carrera based engine.
