The 2022 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392 ($116,890 in Canada, ~$85,145 in the US) is the latest and most ridiculous off-roader from Stellantis. It’s powered by a beastly 6.4 L V8 HEMI, with 470 horsepower and an exhaust system to match its large-and-in-charge nature. But if sounds and speed aren’t enough to make you giggle, then perhaps the upgraded 35 inch tires and FOX suspension system are more your thing. Although it does have some pretty tough competition in this segment - namely the Bronco Raptor. Thomas and James spend some time with the new Wrangler Rubicon 392 and dive into what it’s all about. We hope you enjoy the episode. Subscribe!!

It's an objectively overpriced and stupid vehicle, but I completely agree. This is what passion is about. We'd all be driving a Prius or Bolt EV if logic were the sole choice, but it's not. Buying that 400hp+ coupe or a two seater is not a practical, logical choice, especially when most of us just tool around in traffic. But, life is to be enjoyed, and I get much more joy out of a V8 rumble and some quick acceleration than I do paying less at the pump.

Thomas and James-not sure if you’ve ever owned a G Wagon, but I have. Recently parted with a beautiful low mileage 2016 G63. It was a complete and total POS (leaked everything, warning lights on the regular, etc etc), despite an impeccable service history no accidents and 40k miles. Just one man’s anecdote, but I’m not sure we agree on what build-quality means or perhaps you are parroting what others say about how G Wagons are “tanks.” Honestly, they are trash. Window switches are squishy, all the controls feel worse quality than any vehicle I’ve ever owned. Simply cut-rate quality everywhere. Hood flutters at highway speed unless constantly adjusted. Transmission “flaring” during shifts, unless up to operating temps. All normal, well-documented issues. I could go on. The bones of the vehicle are stout-the axles, drive shafts, skid plates, suspension, everything under the truck is solid. Everything else is questionable. I was disappointed with everything about it except the constant “awesome car” Comments at every gas station and parking lot. My last JLUR by contrast, ran over 70 trails including the Rubicon, without so much as a hiccup. I’m getting a 392 now and not questioning the value proposition.

@@lawlkings You say that, but where's the evidence? Time will tell. I wouldn't be betting on Benz for lasting quality anymore. They left that business a long time ago. They're more of a tech company now, and the cars are designed to be kept about as long as your phone - which is about how long your average Benz buyer (leaser) does keep them.

Hi guys, I love your videos and have been a loyal subscriber for some time now. I like your dynamic together and the fun you poke at stupid decisions made by the OEMs. That said, the Jeep Rubicon JL Unlimited 392 with the Extreme Recon package is ridiculous! I had a perfectly good Jeep Mojave (an underpowered attempt at a Raptor pickup now Bronco Raptor). Loved Jeep's concept but it lacked the power to make it stupid. The Rubicon 392 has the hutzpah but is too heavy to keep from bottoming out if you catch too much air. Why couldn't the engineers be more magical and make a Jeep that could be both a rock crawler with front and rear lockers and swaybar disconnect that could catch more air than a Subaru rental car? This 392 is stupid, my only justification for buying one is that I don't have a boat (cuz...I do have an airplane). It makes no sense. You cannot justify it to anyone, ever, ever, ever...need I say ever! But...I love it. Might be the best vehicle I have ever owned from the standpoint that it checks all my sensory boxes. Ultimate utility but yet it still goes 0-60 in 4.2 seconds. Whaaaaat? I smile all the way back to the gas pump (many friends made there lol). By the way, I loved the statement..."I am pointing it with hopes and dreams". So absolutely true. But all the more dangerous and sinful fun! I hope you guys are as good friends in real life as you seem to be in your videos. Love your channel. Keep up the good work. Cheers guys, Gary

@9:31 yes....we, as jeep owners in the USA take our brand new vehicles out to the trail and rock crawl. A jeep is not Golf R, a CT5V, or a Camaro 1LE....it's not even a Raptor. It's a solid axle vehicle that is made to go over the trails, and that V8 makes it fun to drive on the road too, which is something we all have always wanted. No disrespect, but you guys are city boys, and to be fair some of us are too, but we treat our jeeps like jeeps. Paint is a focus when designing most of the cars you review, it's an afterthought on the wranglers.

I wonder what the percentage of wheelers vs posers there are though. In my area at least, I'd say 90% are buying jeeps for looks only. I bought my JLR to get dirty and potentially smashed. I'm not going to intentionally smash it, but I'm probably going to laugh the first time I crush a body panel and say "well, glad that's out of the way!". There are also about 800 jeeps per square mile in my area, so 10% getting dirty is still a lot
@58rr
@58rr 2 жыл бұрын
Yeaaaah in my area 90% of the jeeps have never even seen gravel. While I believe and I know for a fact there are a community of you that take your new jeeps off-road. Y’all really are the minority. I see a bunch of jeeps with trail recovery gear strapped all over them. All of it is unused and not a single scratch in the paint. The guys who do use their jeeps, they’re at least 7+ years old. For every one of you that take your jeeps to the trail, there’s 10 more jeeps with $30k of mods on them sitting in a corporate parking deck 24/7.

Thing is...there's speed shops putting Hemis in Jeeps all over the country for around $10k. You can also buy used JKs or - even better - TJs for $10k all day long. Throw in another $10k for suspension and you have a v8 rig that you'd *actually* throw into the rocks. That said...I still love that this exists.

If your talking about a USED Hemi for 10 grand OK, but that will not include installation. A new Hemi conversion is 30 grand minimum! I've priced them. I have a 2016 JK and would love to be able to afford a Hemi conversion in it.

Lexus GX/LX and Toyota LC are also V8 off roaders since late 90s! The current GX is still a V8, Its not as fast, newer ones have plasticky bits that hurt the clearance, but the V8 can last well past 300-400k miles, especially the 4.7s that have done 500k+ and it'll be able to handle any off road trail that any other V8 off roader can and its the cheapest as fully loaded is 70k US. G-Wagons and 392 Jeeps have nothing in terms of quality, longevity and price point compared to the GX.

@@BunnyandBatman Well technically, Willis Jeep was first and then the Land Rover Defender was made by a Brit that saw a Willis Jeep and thought he could make a better version of it (turned out he was right), and I am fairly sure the Mercedes G Wagon was third of the three to be developed, but I'm not sure if the Willis Jeep was the inspiration, or the Defender, so really the G Wagon is better described as the "German Jeep" rather than the other way around.
