Dear cold steel, I think it is fantastic how easy it is to remove the thumb studs on your blades, Please do not EVER change this even if it looks cooler. Can't tell you how much easier it makes my life being able to take those studs out with a screw driver instead of a hot stove and 2 vice grips. Makes sharpening, thinning and work on the knife much simpler.

I will always love Cold Steel. They just make excellent knives for the money. XHP Hold Out 3 for $75 on eBay? If it were Spyderco or Benchmade, double the price easily. All without that grand triad lock. People love to laugh at CS for that, claiming they will never need a lock that strong or they will never spine whack it, etc.. But that means you don't need seatbelts either, do you? Just drive carefully. ;) Accidents happen. And personally I'd rather have the best lock I can get, just to be safe when I have to have a folder. Maybe the naysayers would have an argument if CS knives with the triad lock were overpriced, but they're not. They're just great. Perfect? No, of course not. But they really are a great value, especially with the new blade steels. Thanks Cold Steel.

Between 9:34 to 9:36 it is totally unclear what really is happening. To do this properly you must be shooting faster than the camera you are using, not from 24fps changed to 30fps for YT. Be more serious. It's clear this is a typical product slagging video rather than a serious "show down" I worked for many US companies and we always tried to find fault in our competitors or like but the one thing we did was to have a serious like for like show down. Also to be honest I don't like your back to the audience "concealing" what is going on out of sight of camera, some slight of hand LOL!
@BushCampingTools9 жыл бұрын
Come on mate take a joke re my last sentence! As for the rest before that. I stand by what I say. I would say all lock back knives subject that treatment would fail and BTW it's not exactly 30lb force at all. It is 30lb of torque on the handle, with whatever weight that is plus the weight of the pivoting arms plus acceleration due to gravity plus the mechanical advantage (length) of those pivoting arms, which if you would like to publish this I'll gladly post the real force that both samples were subject to in your sort of impact test examples. Or CS R and D could post the real force in Newtons for everyone. Congratulations on your Chinese/Taiwanese made knife not failing, that really is great and is good value for money because CS pays so little in off shore manufacturing. As an aside I really liked Cold Steel when they were all USA made.

Hi thanks for the kind words re my reviews! Well I just couldn't help it with this stuff. There is absolutely nothing wrong with "product show downs" I did it all the time once as a PM for a large US firm but if you have nothing to hide then the way to do it is fair and that means simply stating the facts. Otherwise you will at some point or other get "called out".
@BushCampingTools7 жыл бұрын
Hi there I have nothing to hide, you are correct in saying that. I'm still waiting for the CS R and D guys to publish in the public domain, in other words here on YT the numbers I was requesting. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the test they did. What was wrong (IMHO) was that they didn't actually say what the real forces were, which ( I can only guess as they did not tell me figures I was after, as I could do the calculations and publish the real forces in KgNm-2 and translate that back into a relevant "force in Kg", ok this would not be correct in a physics sense but maybe make more sense to non-physicists etc.). Benchmade for instance do exactly this with their tests of "strength". Certainly the CS knife did not fail and certainly the force was not a little but extremely severe for any lock back folder to endure and I suspect many knives of this design would have failed this test. I can't image under what real circumstances any knife would undergo such forces and if it did, and it was in the human hand then I'd be more worried about the damage to the human hand, regardless of even If it was holding onto the CS knife in the demonstration. Part of my point here was to say that although Volvo cars are undoubtably one of the safest and strongest vehicles on the road `(see their destruction tests) but that doesn't mean everyone should rush out and buy one (or they are the best cars on the road- they aren't (well in Volvo's eyes they are of course) and indeed this is the case). There is no argument about the "cost of the ER knives" being more. This is totally understandable as they are not made in Taiwan or China but made in Italy where at least the staff are getting a decent wage. Plus the raw materials are sourced in Europe not China or Taiwan. Don't get me wrong these countries produce some great stuff. But if you were to say make in the USA a high quality knife of similar design to the CS one in the demo here out of N690 and source the parts in the USA and do the heat treatment there too along with having American's make it then I'd be really surprised if it was not much more expensive than the one here. Now to come back to what you were saying about tests etc. Yep i could do it. just like they did, probably cost me about 500 bucks plus to set it up (not including the cost of the knives) but to be honest the forces are going to be unrealistic and that's why all of my tests in the field represent real usage and not destruction tests as they are pretty much irrelevant for knife users ( Not for car manufacturers though!). Certainly a Charpy impact test would be more relevant and produce some interesting figures. Everyone could then see and make up their own minds as to the relevance of such forces to their everyday usage..

Funny thing about Extrema Ratio, they actually make limited edition knives that come with special edition Lamborghini's in the tool/first aid kit under the hood. You'll never see that video. I truly believe nothing out there that folds can beats it with that extra screw-in lockpin inserted. It's simply impossible for it to fold. With extreme forces the aluminum handle might deform or maybe the tang will break but no way that thing ever folds on a lock failure. That doesn't mean it can't be damaged, there's a video on YT where a guy hacks through a wooden beam with it and the knife developes play because of the axis pin denting the handle. The exact same issue that occurd to the BM Adamas in that Russian dudes video where he batons with it.

I bought my first Cold Steel about 30 years ago and the store clerk (who was about 20 years old) told me (I was about 40 at the time) that "COLD STEEL RULES, MAN". Truer words have never been spoken. I'm sorry. Where extrema ratio says the fulcrum II is strong as a fixed blade? Maybe the MPC can be a strong folding knife, but not as a fixed blade, of course, and E.R doesn't says in the website that the fulcrum II has "toughness comparable to a fixed blade". I Think C.S pocket bushman is a quite good knife but for me this is a no-sense rewiew.

You know, ER is made for being a strong knife, against strong lateral forces, like opening boxes, prying, and overall strong. But If it is not used for batoning, and not stressed at 180 lb, but tested in side strength, ergonomic grip, lightness, stlye, steel quality, what would be the final verdict? CS wins? or CS is overbuilt in 2 respects and would fail in the rest?

+Andras Havas so what you are saying is that you would spend 300 dollars for a light use knife? wooow i pity your parents mall ninja
@BushCampingTools8 жыл бұрын
Ok so I stand by what I say regardless of all the comments here to date. CS please post the data I requested for all to see the real forces that these knives were subjected to. If you are going to produce these showman-like tests- that's fine but let's see the real figures like for example, when Benchmade do their destruction tests (done on the proper machine for a start) have no problems with showing the real figures. I don't believe Andras Havas is being a "mall Ninja" as you accuse him of (unnecessarily too here, for this thread), he was simply pointing out the facts. Also, what one is prepared to pay for a product of any kind simply depends on the "value that one sees in that product. "expensive" is a totally relative term based on personal preferences. So whether one decides to spend 300 bucks on a knife is totally dependent on personal choice it has absolutely nothing to do with being a "mall ninja".

This is what I love to see out of cold steel. Even though they have knives on the higher end such as the SR1 and 4MAX that can be considered pricey (for good reason they are worth every bit), you never have to worry about giving up quality if you want to save a few bucks and just need a working mans knife that can perform the tasks that you ask of it safely and effectively. I honestly didn't expect the pocket bushman to win. when I saw it was the pocket bushman I thought well....shit. I have been getting other knives from various manufacturers, for whatever reason and I still keep on coming back to your products as well as my answer to anyone who is looking for a blade of any sort is : get CS , nothing else ! Lately I have been tempted to test my Viper Start D2 Micarta against one of my CS folders, maybe the spear point Recon, but since the Viper is anniversary gift from my girl and most probably will be trashed, I'm kinda hesitant. So I think it would make a great candidate to put against one of yours. It's a back lock, it is regarded as tactical blade and I believe would be a good pick to run it through your hands. this test is biased. you have done the tests that you know favor your product by making people believe it is better. why didn't you do a more realistic test, such as the blade tip test to see how well it holds up before breaking? this is a real use test.

the question is this: Will these "extreme ratio" people get what they deserve, lose their jobs, their savings, and become homeless and destitute for selling worthless garbage to unsuspecting consumers?

MoreAmerican I'll visit him in person, and spend 5 months living in his house, eating his food and shitting in his bathroom. What's his home address, and social security number.

I love how people get all bent out of shape and accuse CS of cheating, favoritism, blah blah...!! Just admit you feel like an idiot for paying umpteen Dinero for a poor design with supposedly great materials! ! Get over it...
