Great video subject! + who doesn't like watching the chicken ballistics??? The other item is seeing the difference between flesh hit with each and ballistic gel with each. There are sooooo many people that think clear gel is the be all end all of ballistics and it really isn't. Damage in flesh is always much more dramatic than in clear gel. Knox gel (the one the government uses) is made of actual animal gelatin and wounds in it compare more like flesh but they still are not the same as real flesh and bone. I've always enjoyed the Paul Harrel meat targets too. Paul did a great job explaining each target, bullet and his perception of what happened, They weren't perfect and he would tell you that too. But there was real meat in the test just like we see here and that is helpful in determining bullet performance.

Hollow point wins the day. Both Lehigh bullets were facing backwards. They seam to tumble a lot of the times which isn't as predictable performance. That 124 grain bullet was devastating. Thanks for another great chicken test.

I tend to look at things pretty simply. The ED had great penetration, but the JHP caused more damage. I'll go with the JHP for the damage - when defending against a naked assailant. If the guy were wearing a T-shirt, a flannel shirt, a sweat shirt _and_ a heavy jacket then I'd say go with the ED for the penetration. But what do I know?

I am on the fence with these fluted solid coppers, they seem to work well, but I don't see anything better than a good hollow point, like a Speer Gold Dot. The one exception is 380 acp,🤔 these fluted solid coppers seem to be the best option for 380, maybe.🤷‍♂ I am considering them for some hunting applications in PCC's though.👍

Seems like the XD bullets do more damage than straight FMJ, but not as much as a JHP which opens properly. I believe the XD bullets will be more consistent than JHPs, which can get clogged with clothing. For the most part, I'm going to stick with JHPs, except perhaps in the winter or weaker calibers like .380. Might be good for woods defense, if you live around large animals.

Not sure hollowed out poultry is the best medium to test a fluid-dynamic round like the XD. One or two layers of beef brisket might be more appropriate or maybe you can get a deal on some big bone-in hams from the butcher near or past their sell-by. The Nosler definitely plowed through those birds but the 90gr XD always hits that 17.5"+

I run Underwood Xtreme Defender 9mm 90gr +P, along with HST 124 +P. For .380 I use Xtreme Penetrator .380 90gr +P and Federal Hydra-Shok Deep 99gr. Underwood has great velocity and produces incredible wound channels.

I'm curious what type of velocity the 90gr XD would have out of the Shield. I'm guessing a good match and equal or higher velocity than the 90gr XD 9mm +p+/1550fps out of a 4-4.5" barrel.

Sometimes you need both in modern defense with bad people wearing body armor or in cars. Years ago it was somewhat popular it stagger load two types of ammo and stay on target shooting multiple rounds to get the effects of both on target. Maybe this technique has a place in a modern situation, SHTF type of day, just my opinion but that's going to be my load out or at least a mag or two for uncharted territory/

@@thegundungeon All about distance, up close it has been known to penetrate as the HP gets stopped but a heavier bullet retains more energy at a longer distance. Years ago before all the hitech bullets FMJ mixed with HP staggered in a mag was going to do something as a "double tap".
