Kelsey moved into her house over 3 years ago, and as she's lived there, the fireplace has gone through a couple transformations in its lifetime. But now that Elliott has moved in (as seen in this video: • my boyfriend is moving... , it is giving them the opportunity to refresh spots that aren't quite hitting the mark, and this was definitely one of them. I have to admit I'm not a massive fan of the fireplace colour, but as commented on the last video I think the main issue I have with it is that it's one block colour! If you separated the bottom, wooden shelf, and the top with colour I think the copper would stand out better - as long as you love it though that's all that matters!!

I think she needs to find a way to pacify him without relinquishing stylistic control (which can be done hopefully without sorcery) That art he chose looks like a straight up orgy.

Also, the tile and the color of the fireplace and the tile do not match. The tile colors are cool and the fireplace is warm. Also, the mosaic pattern is a little more farmhouse modern and the bronzey fireplace is giving me 90s vibe

Ya, things cycle in and out of popularity. Checkerboard patterns are definitely those. As a flooring pattern it's been around for *thousands of years*.

It is and it isn't, it really depends on the execution, and you can often tell when it was tiled. The late 90s/early 2000s version was almost always diagonally with 30x30cm tiles, the 1890s version was almost always with 10x10cm tiles, etc. So the pattern does come back again and again, but in different variations that do make it clear when the tiles were laid. So it both is and isn't timeless.

This video has been hard to watch. I’ve had to stop and come back several times. I’m so confused by these design choices. My heart hurts a little bit- which I fully understand is silly, this isn’t my house. 😅 I just really loved so much of the previous version of this space. Sure, I could see room for improvement, but this? The tile choice just feels very suburban McMansion backsplash… The fireplace color/finish feels very cringe-“Trading Spaces”. Rochelle is a goddess who can do NO wrong, but that dye job just isn’t right… What’s important is that they love it, though. ¯\ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ/¯ Please don’t come for me, KZbin. I’m still a huge fan and will 👍🏼. Nothing but respect for my Sorry Girls. I just don’t get it.

Here’s the problem with the fireplace (in my opinion). Because the mantle is painted the same as the rest of the fireplace, you lose the texture and detail. This area in your home always reminds me of the flinstones house for some reason. Just bulky. I like the copper more than Barney, but this still ain’t it for me. But hey, I don’t live there so who cares? Hahaha!

@@BelindaShort I didn't mind it all one colour when it was the deep purple colour, but with the copper it just doesn't look right to me. I'd have preferred a deep brown-almost-black on the fireplace, with a wood mantle and then the wall colour above (or a complimentary colour, just not the same as the lower portion). XO Macenna did this beautifully in her formal living room with a dark fireplace and mantle, but light on the wall above. It looks fabulous. I think the darker tone would also really complement the rest of the home, which tends to be a lot of black and white. The copper to me is not a deep enough colour. But hey, they both like it and that's what matters! We don't have to live there. Haha!

imo the top of the fireplace should be light like the walls surrounding it, and the mantle should be a deeper wood tone (as should the frame) and that's what contributes to the bulkiness!

I love the art. I also loved the mirror. Makes sense to not have two mirrors, facing each other though. I think the Ottoman needs feet and a circular rug underneath. Right now it just looks tossed on the floor and way too low to the ground to be comfortably used. Maybe spherical wood feeg in the datk wood tone.

I agree. It's the orange fireplace wall with the red brick and the delicate neutral tile. It's throwing me off, and not my personal taste, especially the brink and marble being so close to each other. I would commit to a black brick to tone the color combination down and take away some of the roughness. That would allow the marble to take on a whole new life. Everything else blends in seamlessly.

Fireplace is giving Kelsey's brown downstairs bathroom for me. It's not super copper. I wonder if you can make it more copper? That said, these would not be my choices but why should they be? I have a small vintage English fireplace and I've put little logs and fairy lights in it since it's so small to fit candles, but the lights bounce off the old steel and give off the warm glow of a fire!

🫒Love layers of lovely green. Hard to resist many different shades of this earthy, delicious color🥑. 😉Think the chair (& darker pillow combo) turned out to be a happy accident. Sadly, the green ottoman seems a bit lost. Maybe a rug would help to anchor it. ⬇️ It is low, but as a person who enjoys sitting on the floor, I don't mind that aspect too much. An oxidation effect to the copper color might help the all-brown translate better across camera. Create depth by sponging in muted blue-greens and rust red. Just a suggestion! If you like how it looks in person don’t change anything!

I was looking for this comment! The tile definitely needs a white backing. And the rest of the fireplace needs to fit the grey/white a bit more. A more muted cold tone would have been a lot better imo. Like grey, or sage green or black or light blue.

There's something about Kelsey's relationship with color that somewhow doesn't excedute well and I'd love it they explored in a future video (i.e. the process of her color choices in the past videos) 🙂! This one's a miss for me but the tile choice and installation look wonderful! I think I'd prefer if the color didn't extend all the way to the ceiling, I don't think the canvas is quite the right shape for the space...but this is the best thing about home upgrades; we can always go back and paint if we don't like it, and as long as you guys like it, that's what matters in the end!

It’s not copper, it’s more brassy gold and not giving me a cohesive vibe with the tile and stained brick. Suggest painting the mantle the same as your door/window trim.

I love the copper, though I'd probably have painted the mantel a contrasting color, or maybe even black, just so that the copper stands out a bit more. As to the chair, I've painted upholstered chairs with latex paint and textile medium to good effect, if you ever wanted to redo it. I like the effect that Rochelle got with the dye, but dyeing something that you can't submerge in water is so hit or miss.

honestly the fireplace color isn't my favorite but I really like the tile! I feel like I'm used to copper being more reddish/orange and that copper is only brown so I'm not vibing with it, but I do like it more than the previous color. the green chair kinda looks like it's been sitting outside for a while in the sun, it's not bad! I love the ottoman's color!

I’m so addicted to your making home series. Probably because for the last 11 years I’ve been slowly redoing my own home. It was supposed to be a starter home but guess I’m still here. I find this series so incredibly relatable. Sometimes you make small changes just to make the space your own until you can afford the bigger ones. And then you end up going back and redoing some rooms as your lifestyle changes. It’s so refreshing to see someone revisit a space and change it into something completely new and beautiful. I actually really like the look of the chair! It reminds me of antiqued leather, but green! Maybe go into the seams with a slightly darker green to really bring out that antiqued, partially-sun-bleached look? Edit: love the art above the fireplace! I've had a lot of success painting upholstered furniture. Add fabric medium to latex paint, sand it, coat with clear wax (doesn't get greasy. Just softens it more and protects). Have never tried dying.

I like the tile but not with this choice of color. The tile is very cottage core lattice white modern and grey and the fireplace is giving copper Spanish antique. Then with the brick inside and not the continuous tile-it’s not all coming together for me. Marble and brick sometimes just don’t flow and then you got copper brown. Just my opinion but it’s still very nice and lovely regardless! ❤

I'm OBSESSED with this makeover. I love the bold colour choices, the different shades of green, THE TILE. I have to be honest, I didn't like the art at first but then when the room was put together with the ottoman and the throw blanket it's like **chef's kiss**

Oh gosh Kelsey, don't over stress yourself, things are looking so pretty. The chair color is really pretty and that ottoman is nice without those feet on it. If you wanted to take care of the edges on the fireplace you can use a caulk and I know I have seen caulk in a beige color not white. I also really like that artwork and the frame around it. You can also design the fireplace with some decorative candles that is a really cool vibe and aesthetic, and looks like a real fire but safer. Oh I think this fireplace color is also so gorgeous and like it better than the other color, that bronze is so cool. Debi's Design diary's DIY paint is a clay based paint you can dye furniture with, and has great green colors. That will fix the chair!❤❤❤

The original green and even the purple were a thousand times better. Agree that the light is super dated. The chair and the ottt are great, maybe put them together. What if you paint the bench/storage a darker berry colour. The art is just so wrong for the space and your personal style. Like the piece that is above your kitchen table is gorgeous. The colours of it are perfect for what the space is.

The chair with the pillow changed the whole look of the chair making it great whereas at first I didn't like it so I'm surprised at how big a difference the pillow makes! Also I adore the mosaic tiles you chose! So cuteee 😄

I think the brown of the fireplace actually makes sense for your space. Though I don't see much of that mustard yellow coming through. I like the tile. It looks great! The painting is a no for me and doesn't really go with the vibe, honestly. And I don't understand the ottoman sitting all alone in the middle of the floor. I also don't love the people in the comments disrespecting your relationship. That's uncalled for. Do agree it's your space so as long as you both like it, that's all that matters.

Yes! This version looks much better, I think the mirror was throwing everything off and not letting the eye focus on anything. The art fits it much better, and I love the dark but warm colour of the fireplace. Good job!

Although you thought it clashed, I think the vintage tile would have tied the entryway and fireplace together better. I think the tile you chose is more modern-- so it's not my favorite, but it is YOUR home and if you like it that's what matters.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the fireplace makeover. If you want the fire vibe without adding to your insurance or costs, just fill the fireplace with a bunch of same color but different sized candles. I did that with our old house and I may have saved our lives. We had gas heat but of course, electricity is needed to ignite the fire. Well, our electricity went out for 5 days in the dead of winter. My candle fireplace was our only source of heat and after closing off all the other rooms, it actually kept the livingroom livable. So me and 5 kids made the floor of the livingroom our bedroom and waited it out.

this might be crazy.. but what if instead of painting a faux copper, what if you used copper sheets :o if you don’t plan on lighting the fireplace, i think it’d be a bold and striking move but then it’d actually be copper and would introduce a new material into the space. I think painting the fireplace hasn’t been working because it’s almost.. too much paint? like it’s too flat? the fireplace is such a large heavy piece in the room. Leaning into bolder choices is the right path but I would take it up a notch and use actual copper hahah. again, might be crazy! 🙃

So many good things in one video!! I know you only show us a glimpse of your “real life” but you and Elliot seem to be a great match. All DIY’ers have been there with Rachelle where it’s going great and then something goes really wrong. I love the color of the chair and you could design a patch or something to put over the splotch. Also, could you do a video that tells us a little bit more about the business side of Sorry Girls - mixed with a DIY of course. I personally always wonder how you track stuff going from the company store room into people’s homes. For accounting purposes, etc. is someone validating all of that? I feel weirdly proud of this amazing thing you have created and since you are the same generation as my kids, I’m like a proud mom as I watch you shine.
