** Why Do We Hunt Hogs? **
Feral hogs are a non-native and invasive species in Texas. Each year hogs cause millions of dollars in damage in the form of damaged crops, contaminated water supplies, broken equipment, transmission of diseases and injury to livestock.
Feral hogs compete with native wildlife for resources and also prey directly on the eggs and young of ground nesting birds and will actively hunt small mammals, frogs, lizards and snakes.
Due to their intelligence, adaptability, and prolific breeding habits, traditional methods of hunting and trapping have been largely ineffective in reducing the feral hog population. The introduction of night vision and thermal optics has greatly increased landowners' ability to mitigate the destruction caused by feral hogs.
Feral swine are not considered game animals in Texas and may be hunted by any means or methods at any time of year.

@@haroldfarquad6886 They are all being tried, and poison strong enough to kill a300lb hog would cause conniptions! And rightly so. Poison will be the least used method, though perhaps not as little used as I think, since pigs will literally eat anything. Traps are used extensively, extennnnnnnsively, trying to catch whole herds of them. But pigs are smart, have good ears, and run at basically the first man made noise. Boars also migrate over perhaps hundreds of miles. They are hard to predict.

I'm from east asia and we seldom see feral hogs in our place so it really hurts me to see this kind of eradication of feral hogs but i'm sure you have your reasons in doing so. Might not be a problem to us but to you they might be a plague, so different places, different problems.

Farm tools are all steel or iron, brass is much softer, and most harvest tools don't touch the ground. The only time it might be an issue is potaties or beets, but those use very tolerant deisgns that let the dirt sift out during harvest anyway. Note the stubble they're driving over: that's what's left after harvesting cereal grains like wheat

We use AAA here in Australia. Obviously semi automatic rifles are hard to get, but not impossible. But most of us have lever release or lever action/straight pull shotguns for running down pigs.

I went to the comments with many of the same questions that had already been asked. Some responses would be nice, and interesting. What calibers are you shooting? What happens to the carcasses? What kind of etiquette issues are there if one is able to find a place to hunt on? Where is the problem intense enough that an out out of state guy might get a farmer's permission to help out with the problem? Etc....

You leave them as fertilizer or dig a big pit and bury them farmers don't like running their equipment over piles of bones. You can eat them but you need to catch them alive and feed them corn for a few months or they will taste gamey.
