Working with drywall and mud everyday. I follow your techniques and it has improved my craftmanship. Truly is an art. Just level 5'd a master bath with similar styling. Pain in the neck! Both literally and figuratively. Torn rotator cuff doesn't help! Love your videos Ben!

I've learned so much from watching your videos. Many years ago I redid the ceiling in my small condo kitchen. I removed those sunken fluorescent lights under clear plastic panels and installed drywall with canned lights. It came out less than desirable so my fix was the brightest baddest led lights that blind you if you look up! My "numbering" system" includes fractions so I think I'm about at a 3.6 level.

Amen. Had friends that wanted to do a 'wall lighting' thing in their toilet (think vertical led strips in a recessed space behind the toilet, both sides), and I couldn't talk them out of it. Good job bud. That 2nd coat over a painted surface is a 🐻. I found that misting the area with water( I use a pump sprayer or sponge) and let it sit 5 minutes or just before water evaporates. Then apply 2nd coat. Cuts the amount of bubbles by 80 percent or better. Give it a try. Thanks for your videos

This video helps me a lot as I am replacing the plastic panels on the ceiling with sheet rock panels. Sheet rocks are pretty sturdy to hold recessed LED lights. Now I know what to do to improve the look of these sheet rocks panels. I am not going to the extreme like this video but as long as my ceiling looks good, I am OK. Kind of hard to see as the LED lights on the ceiling is going to blind whoever looking at the ceiling ;-)

In my part of the country I think it is against the law for drywall guys to use lights. Particularly as an inspection tool. I paid someone to tape and float a 750 Sq ft condo. He (and his wife) did the whole thing with no lighting, even at dusk. Needless to say it showed big time. I ended up bringing a dual lamp. He wasn't even embarrassed by the globs, chunks, missed corners, pin holes, etc. Just looked at me like I was an a _ s for even questioning his work. After my 3rd inspection I just sent him on his way. It took me longer to clean up the poor workmanship than had I done it myself. And I had planned to texture everything. Now it's level 5 and will stay that way.

With all that said, I would have passed on that job. I think that job would have done nothing than piss me off and give me a headache. I would have told the customer why I’m passing and what to look for in the contractor. Those lights show every single imperfection. Congrats to you for being a true professional.

Hey there! Would you use this same method for coating a whole ceiling out after texture has been scraped down and sanded? Patch low spots, dry, then coat whole ceiling? I've heard of using a paint roller to get the mud on, would that be a better use for the application? I do mudding regularly but have never had to level 5 a ceiling yet, and homeowners want it to be a painted finish now ugh lol

Once I designed a tray lighting system around a living room. It had a "shelf" 4" below the ceiling with a lip in front, to hide tri color low voltage string lighting on the shelf, going to 3 rheostats that would control the mood of the room, lighting the ceiling, and therefore the room. WOW, did that ever make a fair looking ceiling look like a WAR zone! But my idea had great merit once I had that dealt with and repainted. I don't mind if some copy my idea; I'm sure I'm not the only one who came up with it! Just be ready for a LOT of work to make it work. Mind you that this was NOT a tray ceiling, just a normal flat one with the tray-like wood shelf added as a great alternative to a tray, and much less work. You put up a ledger first and add the shelf beneath it, and the front block (casing, chair, cove mould, block, whatever), so 3 pieces. Possibly some crown against the wall under the shelf for a really fancy effect.

I can confirm snow blinding as well as shoulder forest fires when it comes to sanding ceilings:)

I think it was the sanding that ruined my shoulders maybe more than any of it.
