@@Mobileblaster Thanks for the update. My old 1920's clapboard Craftsman Cottage house here in California is loaded with lead paint over the redwood, so sandblasting wouldn't be practical, I'd have to heat and scrape every inch of the exterior in order to remove the multiple paint layers.

@richardgraham1167 it's very unusual to have any lead on most projects as it's been banned since the 60s I always check on the older properties. @clivewilliams3661

This is a very risky process. In the first instance I would strongly recommend that a full condition survey is carried out, including moisture readings to all the internal faces of the external walls and ceilings, which will be the basis of assessing any water penetration and damage. Traditional standard British construction has evolved to cope with rain falling out of the sky and not a pressure washing with c2000psi jets, whether on not sand is mixed in. I would be concerned that the brick facings have been eroded that will considerably shorten the life of the brickwork. As indicated, all the brickwork will require raking out and repointing, making the on-costs considerably more than the jet and water/sand blasting. I don't see any obvious signs that the cavity has been insulated, but if so the pressure washing will have soaked the insulation that will dry out to both the inside and outside over a protracted period. There was probably a reason for painting the walls in the first place and most of the time its in the vain attempt to cure a penetrating damp problem - that hasn't gone away but will be highlighted by pressure washing. If the intent was to improve the aesthetics then I would have considered overcladding with render or an actual,cladding system, which would have given the opportunity to add insulation.
@Mobileblaster
@Mobileblaster 6 ай бұрын
It's a good job I was only at 45psi not 2000psi a jet wash is aprox 10L per minute I'm at 0.4L per minute sometimes less. The right media water psi and pitch won't harm a 4" clay brick it will still perform just like a new brick. The reason for the job was because the joints had failed and cleaning the bricks beforehand go hand in hand for a perfect newbuild luck. It has insulation and if that's been done by a reputable company it will be fiberglass none absorbent like all insulation companies use so that's not a problem. The reason was for astatics but your wrong about the paint if it's not approved for brick the it's like putting a bag on the house it need to breath 4" clay bricks are designed to repel water aswell as weep damp out. If you have any other questions I'm happy to put your querys straight 👌👍

Removing a microscopic layer off a 4" clay brick isn't going to affect a 4" clay brick. The outer layer of a brick is for decoration not to stop it from being a sponge.
@Steve-j7z
@Steve-j7z 2 ай бұрын
@@Mobileblaster bricks aren't fired in kilns as long as they used to be. Plus to take the paint off that quick it's got to be taking some of the brick surface away as you can see in the red waste water and slurry. Reckon it's a fine line between doing it right or messing the brick so it spalls later.
@Mobileblaster
@Mobileblaster 2 ай бұрын
Red waste? How do you know that's not the waste media? look, if you're a blaster and want to pull my work that's fine but you're not filling me with confidence with your knowledge. If you're not a blaster, I can reassure you that a 4" clay brick will not turn into a sponge after removing a microscopic layer off the face. Blasting is abrasive, yes but I have the ability to remove paint off a coke can or profile stainless steel ready for rubber Linings. The speed of the job is all down to the equipment and knowledge needed to operate it at its full potential. If I turned up with a rig that's got no power and takes me 10x as long, does that mean you are getting a better job? Or you're getting ripped off by a cowboy?
@Steve-j7z
@Steve-j7z 2 ай бұрын
@@Mobileblaster all I'm going by is what I can see on the video, I'm not knocking your work just saying it must be a fine line between messing the brick up getting the job done in a reasonable time. If the red waste is from whatever grit is in with the water maybe you should point it out in the videos otherwise it just looks like it's from the brick. It obviously looks a thousand times better after blasting but if that's at the sake of the brick then not for me.
@Mobileblaster
@Mobileblaster 2 ай бұрын
@user-yh7un3sz7v It isn't for everyone the owner of this house tried chemicals and the doff plus falch (like a doff but 5x more powerful) without any success they were at the end of the line without knowing how to get the paint removed rendering company turned it down until the paint was removed so it was a matter of blasting or live with damp. As mentioned it is abrasive and it does remove a microscopic layer off the face this does not affect the way the brick performs in any way when it comes to repelling weather and also weeping condensation out. When it's the only option left and someone like me says I can remove it and you won't need to do anything else ie render etc if the cement is good to start with but in most cases, repointing will need doing after blasting as said if it was good cement then I cannot remove it so no more work would need doing if that's good 👍 I appreciate constructive criticism filming for KZbin is a secondary thought I would love to remember to say everything I need to it's not doable as KZbin is a lot harder than 1 would think especially when I've got my brain in gear for the job 👌👍

Fired brick has a hard exterior face. It provides a waterproof surface. The interior material is softer. Sandblasting can remove that surface and expose the softer material to weathering. Sandblasting will remove the structural mortar. This then requires laborious hand repointing of all the joints. Sandblasting is a really bad idea. Chemical stripping is best but far more expensive.
