Lots of prep work paid off. The red is fun. I would not add more to it with molding, but I like a simpler piece of furniture so that it does not take over a room. That is my thought, but you do have an artistic eye for creating furniture. Great job!

14 children died when they became trapped in trunks because they can’t be opened from inside. If you have a Lane trunk, you can contact the company for a safer replacement lock, or replace it with a safety lock from a hardware store.

I think your instinct is right: more “icing”! Not molds though (again, I see you trusting those instincts) but a judicious amount of scrolly or geometric stenciling. Would send this over the goalpost, imho-and enable you to carry the decoration onto the top, where it’s needed. I’m pretty sure there are “rope” stencils, so you could have coordinating frames on top without interfering with the flatness. My three cents’ worth.

As a fellow Norcal resident, I have to say, that storm was a doozy! We also lost power, almost 24 hrs, which was not fun. Glad you got through it! And of course, I love this chest! Family harmony 🎼🎶 at the end just made this video a masterpiece! And the cedar chest re-do is perfect for a little girls room. I’m up for a bit more molding, but it would need to be painted the same red. Any other color would just compete with the sweet decoupage paper and trim.

The Sweet Shop chest, Love the red and decals, it is fun. It is perfect the way it is. I almost see it in a kitchen holding all the baking equipment we hardly use, but dream of becoming a baker. Though fun to add more it isn't needed. Dolly Parton said "It takes a lot of time and money to look this cheap, honey" So we have to be careful with going over the top

Andy, as I said in a comment on your holiday special, this piece is MUSEUM QUALITY! I love it exactly as it is now. I was surprised in the holiday video that such a magnificent makeover was a plot element and not the star of the show, so I'm happy this episode gave it the lead. Kinda like "Rhoda".
