In the chorus, they are singing "Gonna lift you up, up, up, up", which is answered by Gary's "Straight to the top". So it is a complete vocal line, not just a bunch of "woh's".

I didn’t like the woah woah part at first but it’s grown on me. It’s an absolutely perfect song. Gary’s vocals, Pat background singing and playing and NUNO….what a guitar God. Kevin rocks the drums too. Best song I’ve heard in a long time

I look at ‘3 Sides To Every Story’ as a concept album. I put it up there with ‘Operation:Mindcrime as among my favorite concept albums. Profound, introspective, multi-dimensional, smart.

Yeah, 15 years since the last album. Nuno saying he was mourning Eddie van Halen’s death and wanted to bring some of that vibe back (not many who would dare to see themselves ‘able’ to do so). This is a good album starter, and the solo is mental. I agree the chorus also gives me the DL commercial sing-along.

There is a lot of EVH inspiration in that solo. It is fucking killer. Go back and listen to Van Halen Mean Streets and you hear that in Nuno’s solo.

I just had to stop now to come and comment, because to me it was a mind-blowing coincidence that, at 8:10 when you mention you enjoyed those leads sepating the singing parts, instantly what came to my mind was exactly the Scorpions and then, boom!, you mention just that! And the band has been Nuno, Gary, and Pat Badger (bass) since their heyday. Paul Geary (drums) left the band and went into artist management. He's still involved with the band, though. Kevin Figuereido is on drums now.

Nuno, Gary, Pat, are all OG members. The only non-OG is Kevin Figueredo on drums. The original drummer, Paul Geary, is one of the band managers (he wanted to retire from drumming early on in Extreme's career, during the recording of their fourth album)

By this point, Kevin has been around twice as long as Paul Geary was. He's a perfect fit. He also played on the Nuno projects before this like the Dramagods stuff.

There must be something special with the term "rise". Portion Control has a very aggressive song with that name but on the other end of the musical spectrum. Worth checking out though. I really love that one!

My only criticism could be the lack of a second guitar playing open chord rhythm behind Nuno’s solo - just to fill out the space, cos there is some space in that mix. So glad Extreme are back.

My lord what a song! Everything was crushing and straight forward. Nuno is a scary fucking guitarist. So damn original and unique. A def force of nature. I did notice the groove in the song is very similar to Pop Evils "Bosses Daughter" which is by no means knock in any way. If anything I love that swinging vibe! Everything else aside that was my only observation. Just a killer tune!🤘🤘🤘🤘

Wow! This came out of nowhere... I agree with the background vocal comment, it will take some getting used to (it's kind of a touch to the modern vibe of pop music today...sadly) but not unbearable! Me on the other side love it sine it gives almost an "animalistic" groove....seems like Tarzan's call, and you're right it sounds very modern rock which gives much more credit to the band on evolving and incorporating new elements while keeping their personality intact. I've always felt Pornograffiti was their pinnacle, but there are great songs on their other albums. I thought that the success of "More Than Words" had a definite effect on 3 Sides to Every Story, because a lot of it had a softer sound, but it was still pretty good. I even felt there were great songs on 1995's Waiting for the Punchline (although it was more serious sounding), and also 2008's Saudades de Rock, but they weren't quite as memorable to me. I'm looking forward to this new album though! It seems to me that those "whoa's" are their attempt to incorporate some 2010's sounds into their music, which weren't bad, but I agree they probably weren't necessary.

Velvet Revolver meets Fallout Boy.. Pretty cool.. Catchy tune and just hits you in the face right out of the gate. Loved the guitar solo (Nuno never disappoints) however, I just felt the solo started off great but then kinda changed lanes and lost focus on the song. Lots of flash and technique but was a little all over the place.. Just my opinion.. Can't wait for the album to drop!

You really do need to check out 3 sides. It is amazing. They also have 2 other albums, Waiting for the Punchline and Saudades de Rock, which I think you would love also. That makes a total of 5 albums, making the new album number... you guessed it, SIx.

I'm not too hip on the chorus either, but it's amazing how much better that whole experience got after the bridge. After that, it was just money. The whole album is great, and typical them, it's all over the map in regard to what you are hearing. So many solos, so many great guitar fills. The whole damn band is fantastic, but I'm a straight up Nuno fanboy. That dude is sick.

Have to admit, I'm not a big Extreme fan. I've never really into the whole funky rock thing that they're known for although I have liked some of their bigger name songs over the years and I've seen them live a few times at various festivals. As for the new tune though, I'm really digging it. Just a fun, rocking tune and for me that chorus is catchy and kind of hooks me in. Good stuff and this tune will get added into my playlists.

I see the poppy chorus accomplishing two things in a very clever way: 1) it hooks you in, 2) it subverts the genre. It's a commentary on the greed and fickleness of the machine, of fame. Just listen to the lyrics, what they are actually saying in the song.

I actually think, sonically, the drums and the bass are lacking. The drums sound like they're huge, but they are very dull. And I think the guitar overpowers the bass a little too much. Every other Extreme record, the bass is always very discernible. As a bassist myself, its slightly disappointing. Especially becuase Pat is a MONSTER bass player.

I thought the same thing listening to it on my 2021 MacBook Pro when I first listened to it. Today, I broke out my DAC and Amp to listen to the song with my Sennheiser headphones, and it packed more of a punch. I would still like to hear the bass and drums to be more pronounced. Still love them as they are one of my favorite bands and from my home of Massachusetts. I can't wait to hear more.

That's funny, the chorus "up ooh up ooh up up" is one of my favorite parts. I love Nuno, but the guitar solo is WAY too long. If they cut 50% of that guitar solo, I could see this moving up the charts. Just my opinion, though.
