Nuno Bettencourt is an absolute beast. Extreme has wrongly been labeled as a ballad band (Hole Hearted and More Than Words) which couldn't be further from the truth. The song 'Get The Funk Out' is a great song.

They do amazing ballads and other styles. Over The Rainbow is excellent. Get The Funk Out is my least favorite of theirs, but we agree Extreme is an amazing band. III Sides is an incredible album, as is Punchline, Saudedes and of course Six. Each band member is great. Gary Cherone should be mentioned in the same league as Roger Daltry, Robert Plant, and the best singers, and he has no LSD!!

Start at the beginning. Their debut was excellent. "Kid Ego" is a stand out track. Nuno Bettencourt is otherworldly.

"Play With Me" from the Bill and Ted Soundtrack was where I got exposed to these guys and eventually they released the monstrous "Pornograffiti" album that is still one of my favorites. I still remember when I saw "Decadence Dance" on headbangers ball in the early 90's. This band blended funk and metal way before most bands even thought about doing it and as such, I feel like they were before their time. Also they covered a wide range of topics and had "smart" lyrics. Another thing to note...all of the band members can sing and could hold their own. Also, I know a lot of stuff shocks you about what they used to get away with in terms of lyrics. Check out "Little Girls"...you thought "Seventeen" was insane...and this was also a single with a video! :O

I dunno if I agree with Extreme being funk-rock mainstream pioneers (Faith no More, RHCP) but other than that I agree! Wish I had your luck and had been part of that scene back in the day. Saddly I was too young :(

More Than Words was so huge the band kinda became pigeon-holed. That happened to quite a few bands around that time (Mr. Big, Saigon Kick etc...) But as a guitar player myself of 35+ years, Nuno was NEVER overlooked by me and the people I knew. He was the main reason I listened to Extreme.

The lead singer filled in with Van Halen, and the lead guitarist has been Rihanna's touring guitarist guitarist including her Superbowl appearance. Brian May has always held these guys in high regard -- particularly Nuno Bettencourt. Brian May has said he considers one of the top guitarist in the world. This song was a refreshing blast of rock. You should also check another new one by them-- #rebel. The solo isn't quite as flashy but it totally fits the song which is what I love about Nuno's playing. Thanks for the video!! Good job.

T, Extreme singer Gary Cherone is 61 and still sounds this great in studio and live. He recorded 1 album with Van Halen. Guitarist Nuno Bettencourt has been Rhianna's guitarist for yrs. They're great live and still are.

Met them on a Lady's Night, where our band was playing. After they were through drinking and signing body parts, they came on stage, absolutely left our instruments whimpering! Got some t-shirts signed, pics and stuff. We just sat around behind them on stage, being totally blown away for 5 songs! Peace

I’ve seen them live and they are the real deal. They play with so much energy and Nuno is one of the most amazing guitarists on the planet. This is the band that sings More Than Words and Hole Hearted so I’m surprised how you don’t know them. Also Nuno plays in Rihanna’s band.

My third favorite band behind rush and U2. Gary's vocals are amazing and Nuno's playing is obscene! Great songs to check out are decadence dance, Cupid's dead, He-Man woman hater, get the funk out, and fire in the hole from when Gary was the lead singer of Van Halen!

Thanks for reacting to this. This album comes out on June 9. First one since 15 years ago. They have 2 newer songs released from a few weeks ago" "Banshee" and "#Rebel". Both tremendous - and I like them even more. For older live stuff... watch them do "Cupid's Dead," "Get the Funk Out", or "Play with Me".

Extreme puts on killer shows. Fun fact: The brother of Nuno (guitarist) used to sing in a band called Flesh, and the brother of Gary (the singer) played the guitar in Flesh. So the brothers did the opposite, and yet Flesh sounds so similar and powerful as Extreme.

Nuno Bettencourt is just an amazing guitarist! Do yourself a favor and watch him playing Flight of the Wounded Bumblebee! Brilliant!! The1st hit that went to #1 was (More Than Words) by Extreme first album!!! But this song gave many people a false sense about them as a rock and roll band. Just check it out and you will see!!! My reaction exactly. It's a guitar solo looking for a better song. Without the heavy drums and crunchy rhythm, it's kind of a BTS song, honestly. "Lift you up, oh oh oh" etc. But Nuno was ALWAYS the Great Unknown player, as if he was the orphaned brother of EVH and Randy Rhoads. This solo shows why some of us felt that way all those years ago.

I lost any respect I had for these guys because of something they ripped off. In a video Nirvana put out called:On the muddy banks of the Wishkah....Kurt Cobain talked about a strange pairing the had on a tour with Extreme. He called them "schlock" and didn't know why they played together? Later in the video after smashing their instruments on a daytime television show,the host of the show informed the audience that Nirvana was "available for children's birthday parties and bar mitzvahs". After Kurt died, I saw an interview with Extreme,where they ripped the birthday party thing off. It was funny when Nirvana did it,and I can see how the members of Extreme were entertained by it...but come up with your own schtick. Don't rip off a guy who when alive, completely trashed you and your band. Just because he's dead and you can get away with it. I found it "Extreme-ly" tacky

Their second album, Pornograffitti, is one of the pinnacles of hard rock guitar playing. An absolute master class in melodic, post Van Halen guitar virtuosity w killer songs and non-stop riffage. That record will knock your socks off, front to back!

Nuno is great yet he over does it on some tunes. You should check out the singer's old band Van Halen - Without You or Fire in the Hole.
