It’s SO refreshing to find an interior KZbinr who also leans towards the more classic and traditional style. I love a traditional space with more modern and contemporary accents, I find it’s usually the opposite on here (modern with touches of classic/vintage/etc) your space is beautiful!

Agreed. I have a 1920s bungalow, and when we had our basement redone they came back with a very "suburban builder" style and layout. My husband and I noped that concept and said if we wanted a suburban feel we would have moved to the suburbs. We actually retained the original support beam and will be using it in our pergola design next year! Reduce, reuse, recycle ♻️

Caroline, I thought I was a lost cause but the more I look at your videos the more I am inspired to just do something, anything at all that would be an improvement on the constant chaos that surrounds me. I am 58 and have ADHD and it borders on impossible for me to create order and calmness anywhere and I know you will think this is crayzeeee but I am so proud of myself because after four years of living in this house, which I own, I have finally managed to decorate the top of my beautiful, custom made mantle with a small selection (small is a huge achievement for me) of cohesive objects that I love and it looks so cool. I am now inspired to try and find the floor of my bedroom and do something with that bedlam with a bed. Thanks a mill from a grateful subscriber in Ireland 💕💕

What I mostly loved about this redesign is your approach on art, especially when you talked about the piece your cousin made. Just hearing you talk about what it meant while looking at the canvas made me feel so many things. I think where a lot of interior designers miss the mark for me is their superficial approach on art as just an accessory that has to “go” with the rest of the decor. I love the “start with the art” approach, where you curate a meaningful and valuable collection (valuable to you, not necessarily in an investment sense) and build your spaces around that.

My "art" is such a crazy collection of original pieces, prints, found art, post/birthday cards that I liked the image and framed, one of my favorites is the framed telegram and envelope informing my grandparents of my month early birth while they were traveling internationally. 1970 so no interwebs or cell phones. I just want to have pieces that I have an affinity for, it's my space and I want things that are for me.

I like that your content considers accessibility. I recently purchased my first home and so many channels are like “$800 makeover!” But then they use a bunch of expensive power tools and build custom closets or something. Maybe they only spent a few hundred dollars on cheap wood or supposedly inexpensive thrifted pieces (I have my own doubts about the bts of “thrifting” content we see online), but because I’m starting at 0 in a small row home, it would easily get into the thousands for me. Most people don’t have lots of power tools, a professional work shop, or carpentry experience, we’re going to mess up our homes if we try to go all out right away. These renter friendly makeovers allow me to learn as I go. Eventually I hope I can take on some bigger challenges too.

YES to a ceiling moment! And to the conversation about the wall decor. I need the things I put on my walls to mean something to me. Weather its sentiments or it speaks to my soul. As a dental assistant I can tell you: When you're whitening your teeth, you should avoid black coffee until 48 hours after the bleaching - use flourid fluid as post-treatment (it closes the enamel structure and avoid color particles to enter). If you love your coffee as much as the air you breathe (like I do), put a lot of milk in it - it REALLY works and avoids tooth-coloring in a long time term (dunno if this sentence is makes sense - I'm german)! Green tea leaves gray stains, black tea obviously black/brown spots. But 2 days later you should be totally fine. I would try white tea - it's actually pretty nice. by the way: I LOVE YOUR VIDEOS. I'm binging them for hours now. 🙌

Love this, Caroline! My favorite (so far) of all your makeovers. And I learned a new styling term -- friction! -- a style I've incorporated for years. I am n.o.t. a fan of matchy-matchy (for myself). Love your gallery corner wall! My gallery wall in the living room is very cohesive and symmetrical -- but, in the powder room, it is very random, and I love them both. (Tip: when your significant other says, "You're going to put *another* hole in the wall??!!?" -- the proper response can be, "Oh, honey, that ship sailed 10 years ago.") Thanks for keeping us informed and inspired and entertained!

I LOVE how you renovate for real people, real budgets, real spaces. Thank you! Love the colors and textures. I'm big on texture, and prints register in my mind as visual texture. I don't like the black fireplace -- it's like a door into some void. Light grey, off-white, even a very light butter yellow would have given it character, tied it into the room, and not given the effect of sucking space into a black hole.

Also, I really like your cousin's painting and concept behind it!

Just found your videos last night...sorry about your knee surgery...what a drag! I think you are wonderful! First video I saw was "You're Gonna Hate Me for This" LOVED IT!! Thank you for saving my inheritance! Yes, I was ready to make my way to decorate for the camera... Now I'm not. I will make ME happy. You're a blessing! Thanks for all you do for us!!

Wow. I cannot explain to you the emotions I’m feeling since finding your channel! You make me so excited to start changing my space into a space that serves me in more ways than one. You deserve to live in a space that you love to be in. A clean, functional, and neat looking space I feel is a necessary foundation for your life! Learning this and really trying to remind myself of this, especially lately. You just solidified all of those ideas that I had just floating around in this NOGGIN. Thank you for sharing your creativity and knowledge, I am so stoked to see what else you will come up with!

I really appreciate how you value your beautiful wooden pieces. I love my wooden pieces and get tired of watching beautiful furniture going to shabby 💩.

Wow, that makeover is insane! Gorgeous design elements and so many realistic moments-love that you didn’t edit out your learning moments and appreciate seeing the whole process.

Wow Caroline, that intro reminded me of what my attitude used to be, toward interiors, everything really, before social media and hgtv, when I made my space and my style beautiful no matter what I had. Thank you for that. I know this video is older but I needed to hear someone say that honestly I’ve been struggling with my apartment for so long. I just forgot what life is really about. Xoxo 😘

The bed frame was such a good find! It's the star of the show and works perfectly with your mirrors. Also would have never thought of (or attempted!!) the ceiling wall paper but totally worth it.

DC has AMAZING second hand finds, or even free on Buy Nothing/Freecycle. Transient area, people who can afford nice things but also may have to switch apartments, or relocate in a few years and have to divest, upgrade, or their nice things don't work in their new place. Insane, the stuff I've gotten from people just desperate to get it out of their space. Have also been one of those people.

Not my style BUT. The fact that it's CLUTTER FREE AHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! 🥰🥰🥰 Like to me, that's the most important part of interior design!! Clutter free, inviting space!! Nice work 👌🏽

The room is really cute. I love the fireplace, the gallery corner and the styling. On a side note, tea will stain your teeth more than coffee but my dentist says it is easier to remove. So having your teeth professionally cleaned twice a year at your dentist will probably be sufficient.
