Thank you so much! Yes the rotation one is underused in the athletic community. It helps a lot with Ballet turn out, Isolating rotation in the hips... And overall flexibility. Thanks for your feedback. appreciated.

Ive been looking at a lot of splits tuts to try to gain any knowledge of am issue I am having with the middle split. I think my hips max out a bit before I can get all of the way down. I can feel that if I rotate my feet backwards more, I should maybe be able to get a little more room in my hip socket, but I feel like it gets locked into a groove and I can not go any more backward nor forward with my feet(effectively rotating my femur in the hip). I can tell there is no chance at all that I can drop down into one with my feet facing forward like standing, but if I start with my feet 180 apart and drop down with my knees facing up, I could get much closer. I have gotten maybe 5 inches off the ground, but I eventually feel a lot of pressure in the hip socket and no tension in the surrounding muscles and tendons. Afterward I can feel some issues in my hip, like I was pinching a nerve or inflaming something perhaps. I think I just might not ever be able to do the middles. I was just curious what your experience was and if you ever felt like that at any point and was able to move past it? I also get the feeling that stretching the ligaments and everything out so much can cause instability in the hip and could eventual cause uneven or un-natural wear on the hip socket?

Hi, It is my understanding that everybody's body is different and moves and adapts and stretches in different ways. So only you can listen to your body and figure out how it moves and what will cause you injuries. But in my understanding where there is a will there is a way. The body is capable of amazing feats of adaptation and change if coaxed and conditioned in the right way. I highly recommend investing some time in the stretch where you roll your legs back and forth while sitting with both legs extended. It will help you find different paths to work through your hip joint. check out my basic stretching tutorial. kzbin.info/www/bejne/larGgaGfmrhloq8 I have heard that some people have deeper hip joints than others. The deeper they are the more difficult it is for your leg bone to move within it in a greater range of motion. As for loosening it up, I don't think with the correct conditioning it would cause undue wear and tear. There is of course more if you use your hips more vigorously, but that would come with any kind of intense activity. If you build up the muscles and strength of your leg and hip as you loosen and stretch the ligaments there should not be any instability. When I stretch to extremes I am a bit sore after and sometimes after such a stretch my hips pop or feel very loose for a couple of hours, but that goes away and after some 10 years I have felt no long lasting negative effects. but please know that I am not a doctor or medical expert, and if you do feel pain or worry definitely consult one.

dear Simon. I would like to ask do you need to warm up before you doing the split? I can split( front and side), but it takes me about 20 minutes before I become really flexible. Some of my friends do not need to warm up and can split very easily which makes me very confused. Am I doing something wrong?

I agree. I have another video for basic full body stretching. this one is designed for people who want to get that last few inches or go past the split. my basic one is called "Stretching For Martial Arts Tutorial. It is on this same channel.
@jasonhunter61257 жыл бұрын
there is a fine line, when this becomes unhealthy, I assume?
@SimonScher7 жыл бұрын
Yes. It has mostly to do with working within your bodies pace and range. To push is good just not too hard or too fast. That leads to injury. And you have to couple strength with range.
@andrzejgubala42488 жыл бұрын
It's just a display of flexibility far from tutorial'

I was trying to demo ways that you can take a split further. It does look pretty neat, but I call it a tutorial because it shows ways to improve and increase your splits flexibility. I have a more basic tutorial on overall flexibility and getting to the splits kzbin.info/www/bejne/larGgaGfmrhloq8 on this channel.
