my first experience of camping on Dartmoor was in a 2 man army canvas pup tent with 3 of us in it. not as bad as you experienced but even more miserable. Great vid guys, tbh, I wouldn’t be too hard on the tent. If it was reckoned to be in the 40-50mph range, given the exposed site, fully geodesic tents or Hilleberg type tents with Kerlon flysheets are really the way to go. There is a limit to how much crap a 3 season tent can take and those are pretty big gust speeds 💨💨💨💨

Excellent video, I also liked the cooking bit. A friend of mine had his Vango Hurricane blow down in a gale (50mph +) many years ago and when he wrote to Vango they replied "Well Mars Bars don't come from Mars, it's just a name." The point being that when some buildings suffered structural damage and the Met Office have issued warnings, how would you expect a tent to hold up. I was camping on a ridge on Mount Hood in Oregon years ago when the wind got very gusty. My brother and I were collapsing the ten to move elsewhere and I just pulled out the last tent peg when another very strong gust blew the tent away!
@OffTheBeatenPot5 жыл бұрын

Actually, after this, I examined the cloud up 2, it was fine, and I found that the addition a single guy line attached to the rear window made all the difference in string winds, which I have tried and tested numerous times since. And my most recent video sees me test out the cloud peak in 50/60mph winds, and it stood up well. However, if someone was to fork out £1000 for me I would happily give a hilleberg a test.

I'm of the opinion that the MSR tent held up fine until he left the doors open in that raging wind and walked away, a tents structure is with all the doors zipped closed, the other tent failed with all the doors zipped so this is a product failure whereas the MSR tent failure was operator error by leaving it open to the wind,

Well, its actually a 3 season tent and I have never seen a mention of summer use only in any description. And for nearly £300 you would hope it would perform better than this, surely?

@@SummitOrNothing Three-season tents are not designed for extreme wind loading, i have the two-man version of that tent and have used it in 50mph + winds. With the proper pitching, it was rock solid didn't move an inch. This isn't near £300 you can pick them up new for £200 its an entry-level tent the lowest end model they make. Good luck getting any three-season tent to survive similar conditions for less than that money. Also, the guy lines were not even tight. User error here plain and simple.

Would this do ok in 25mph winds?
@SummitOrNothing4 жыл бұрын
THe Naturehike is great in winds up to 40mph, I have found that an additional guy line tied off of the rear window helps considerably.
