I had a "mechanic" work on my 50hp yamaha because it wouldn't idle,run full rpm, etc. i spent $300.00 for nothing and was telling him the entire time that i thought the carbs needed cleaning or rebuilt, to no avail. Anyway, i came across your video and it gave me the courage to break down the carbs and clean them myself. i took it out yesterday and it ran flawlessly! i can't thank you enough for putting this great video together. Gonna watch your Linkage Adjustment video next, just to make sure everything is running in harmony as it should! Thanks again!

Dear brother, My great thanks for your video.. I am working on cargo ship. We have good experience on diesel engines. But in Outbound motors it is comparatively less. Your video greatly helped me in troubleshooting the starting of our ships rescue boat OBM. We are in the edge to call for shore support for repair. But your clear details in this video absolutely helped me to identify the exact trouble and to rectify it. We all are thankful to you brother. Keep it up.

I appreciated your carburetor cleaning tutorial and you taught me several things. I would not have been able to identify which of the three carburetors went to which position before I watched this tutorial. And, I was not aware of the small hole between the two jets that you pointed out. Great job referencing the Yamaha manual like you did when you said not to use steel/iron probes to clean out the small holes. And you did it again when you referenced the correct float height. Many video presenters simply make statements without identifying whether that is their experience talking or something the manufacturer put out in print.

Great video and very helpful. Its pretty similar to my yamaha 20hp 2 stroke and I was able to bring it back to life! My only sugguestion is if anyone doesnt want to wait or pay for 24 gauge copper wire, most ethernet and phone cables are made with 24 guage copper, so if you have some kicking around you can strip that and use it to clean out the jets.

Ive a problem on a similar engine, just a different CDI unit and throttle linkage, which starts and runs if you choke it (manual flip switch on the control unit) for around maybe 10 seconds and dies out, it wants to run on higher RPMs, but idles really rough at times an stops suddenly. My guess are these tiny holes in the idle circuit on the top of the carbs. Great videos man!

Thanks! That's the first thing I would look at, make sure the carbs are as clean as possible. Those little holes in the jets can get clogged and play havoc with the engine!

I believe that the carb float is different on this model horseshoe looking thing so pictures show me once i have inspected the open carb and especially the needle valve ill decide if it needs a rebuild kit (probably does) anyway i keep refering back to your video for tips .

First, thanks so much for posting this. It's well filmed, clear, and as concise as it can be without missing anything important. I really appreciate it. I have just one "stupid" question: how do I know if I have an E, M, or EM model? I need to know what pilot screw setting to use. I have a 50 TLRC ("C" means 2004), and there are no other letters in the model name, so I'm guessing these E/M/EM models don't apply to 2004 models. Also, sometime around 2004, they started installing brass plugs over the pilot screw to meet emissions regs (can't have folks turning their 2-strokes into 2-smokes with bad carb settings...). The previous owner of my motor removed those plugs to gain access to the adjustment screws, so now I have no idea what they were originally set to. Thanks a lot for everything you do, and thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
@ExtremeDIYGuy2 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure this is 100% correct but the only reference I can find to that is for electric or manual start. EM being capable of both. I think if you follow the guidelines for a 50 on the adjustment screw you should be fine. Or am I not understanding your question?

Joe just came across your video, Well done, I just purchased a 97 4ohp and cleaned the carbs because the engine is not running well it starts but then dies. i found that the bottom carb does not have the emulsion tube under the main jet like the other two carbs have installed and wondering if this is the reason why it was not running properly. i ordered a new one and waiting for it to come but was wondering if you might know, or is that bottom carb not supposed to have one installed? looking forward to your response. thanks.
@ExtremeDIYGuy3 жыл бұрын
The bottom one definitely has an emulsion tube identical to the other tube. All three carbs are identical on the inside. I would be willing to bet that's why the engine is not running right! Good luck and hope it solves your problem!

@Римованакс Жыл бұрын
very funny that they put s cap on the idle jet but there is a passage from the main jet. that can feed fuel in the small area between the wall an the jet. Just like any other carb it should be free. no plug needed. if there is to much fuel while idling there always should be considered a smaller size or multiple sizes smaller jet. weird carb construction
